Just recently finished Harrison and Rachel Browne's Let Us Play: Winning the Battle for Gender Diverse Athletes and I would highly recommend it.
I was a little worried that it would wind up being a little too simple, because it's only in the ballpark of 160-180pgs (depending on if you wanna count introductions and stuff or not). But the only reason it's on the shorter side is because the writing is just so clean.
I was really impressed. When dealing with a topic that has so much contention surrounding it the authors do a phenomenal job of cutting through the noise and presenting the issues in a clear, direct, and engaging manner.
Plus they really work well together as the book neatly balances that line between research-based arguments and personal accounts and showing how the two interrelate with one another.
While it doesn't pretend to have all the answers, it does a fantastic job laying down a groundwork from which to build on and move the conversations into a more productive direction.
Thank you for taking the time to read and engage with our book. Researching and writing it was an eye-opening and even uncomfortable process for us, as we learned. Being pushed in our thinking exposed us to new ideas and inspiration for action. Reading books like this that confront our preexisting biases is just a first step in bringing about real change in our own circles and communities and beyond. It can be scary to take action and daunting to know where to start, whether you're trying to be an informal individual navigating this fraught topic, practicing greater empathy for the gender diverse people in your life, or seeking to bring about broader change. There's always something鈥攂ig or small鈥攚e can do.

here's what i want to say, politely: I am really tired of people [specifically on twitter] complaining about the structure of the expansion draft. what's done is done. but you can still make a competitive team.
However, I do think someone did the math wrong. many people are focusing on how many people teams were allowed to protect, but I think the real math problem was how many the expansion teams were allowed to take.
going into expansion, each team had on average like 12 players' rights [under contract or RFA] with the rest set to become free agents. If you say each team can only lose 3, and you protect the 4th player after losing 2, more of the lower salaried players stay on their team. then, each expansion team ends up with 9 players or their rights, as do the original teams [more or less].
This also means that expansion teams still have options when it comes to who they can select [which is the issue with protecting more people when the number of free agents is so high]. this is instead of expansion teams ending up with 12 and original teams ending up with 8.
then, you go into free agency with every needing roughly the same number of players, and everything can even out.

So apparently if you go to the finals the season before a league expansion, they will just take your team.

"You're just not being reasonable. If you'd just look at the long-term gains for society as a whole that this will generate you'd realize that your individual pain is inconsequential. Why are you so selfish?" says the robber stabbing me in the gut as if I give a shit why they're doing it.

I guess that's kind of like parity?
