something in his face twitches, then goes dangerously still. “i’m not entirely sure what you’re  implying, stranger. and i am quite sure that the lady in question would not appreciate being spied upon.” his tone is warning-- and he cuts an imposing figure, jaw set and eyes narrowed-- bothered by the tone on which this invasive inquiry was delivered.

his flattery doesn’t go unnoticed, most have the same things to say about dragons so she gives it little notice. growing up around them, valeera long passed the fear and firmly stands in adoration and loyalty toward the winged beasts, something she wishes for all friends of riders one day. she only wants to strike fear into the hearts of those who deserve justice for their crimes. violet eyes shift to him, no longer looking up toward the soaring animals. “have you ever wanted to meet one?” she asks, turning a little more his way. she feels the ripple of curiosity from daythe, for it’s not often valeera offers to introduce anyone to her bonded- let alone a human man. “no risk of offending her- much at least. daythe is very well behaved, more like a large dog than a fearsome dragon.” she laughs, daythe’s words coming back to her in threats of grounding her. “come, she’s on her way back from a hunt. we can meet her on the cliffs edge.”

huh. now here is a dilemma. does he be the cowardly knight and avoid meeting an actual dragon or does he go along to impress her and risk the odd chance that he becomes a dragon’s next meal. he’s convinced the minute she laughs, seemingly at her own comparison of her dragon to a dog. “who am i to turn down such a convincing endorsement. so long as you promise to protect me, my lady, should she suddenly find me appetizing.” his jovial tone masks the confliction this decision is already stirring in him. he has no reason to doubt her, but considering that he’s only known her for a few moments, he shouldn’t have much reason to trust her, either. (though, he does consider himself a good judge of character.) regardless, the knight offers her his arm.

Mrunal held a large slingshot at her shoulder, perched on a large boulder she’d needed Rox’s help getting up onto. Beside her was a basket of quickly depleting fruits. She positioned another apple into the sling her aim unintentionally too low which had Auroxas dipping lower for it, startling a man she noticed only then. She grinned at his comment, “I’ve had some time but there are definitely moments, you new ‘round here?”

“ha! you could say that,” he laughs, but the gaze directed to the dragon in question is charged with anxiety. “in my defense, most people would find coming that close to such a large mouth a little alarming.” the dragon really hadn’t gotten very close to him, and his tone is mirthful to mask the distress coursing through him.

she looks up just in time to see a young dragon fly overhead. she’s watched these beasts grow up from eggs to the beautiful things they are now and she can’t help the pride that swells in her chest at the thought of watching all the little ones grow and mature. his question bring her attention back toward the ground, giving a light chuckle. “i think i’ve gotten used to it, though the feeling of pride and adoration will never go away. the surprise at all the dragons perhaps.” she’s not trying to be snarky, she’s actually attempting to be nice to the human though she wants to do anything but. it’s clearly a forced interaction on her behalf, though she’s sure olyvia would give her a gold star for effort if she could. “have you ever met one? or just stared from far away?”

he knows this one. he isn’t very well acquainted with those in the order, she’s a princess? he thinks. was one, at least. he’s seen her before, the pretty one. though he doesn’t think she’d appreciate being referred to as such. a well-mannered smile curls the corners of his mouth. “ah, only admired from afar, i’m afraid--” brown eyes shoot quickly from valeera, to the dragon soaring skyward. “i cannot claim to have half the grace and poise as you dragon-riders have, my lady, and they have very large teeth. wouldn’t want to risk offending one.” he chuckles to himself, gaze again settling on the woman beside him. something about her implied she wasn’t one he wanted to risk offending, either.

shallune boasted a remarkably smaller amount of pickpockets and thugs than valura. back home, in the city, duncan had become accustomed to a certain level of excitement. or, at least, activity. he was proud to represent his lord, to fight alongside dragon riders against the dread. but, when he set out on the journey to shallune with his token force of soldiers, he was expecting to see a lot more action than he was witnessing. the most exciting thing that happened thus far was the occasional need to babysit his men, prevent them from scrapping each other. at present, they seemed to be behaving themselves. gods, he never expected himself to be the responsible, clear headed one, that was always his brother. the heavy, loud beating of wings overhead startles him, and he is reminded once again that this is the resting place of dragons. dragons! the knight shields his eyes against the sun with a gloved hand and watches the beast fly about above him. “you really never get used to that, do you?”

DUNCAN BLACKWOOD who strongly resembles SANTIAGO CABRERA, has made the Shallune Cliffs their home. They are a 36 year old HUMAN. He is known to be CHARISMATIC & WARM, but also INDULGENT & WILLFULL. He is a KNIGHT. 

this very charming boy is the secondborn son of lord blackwood. not old enough to inherit his father’s land & title, but not young enough to do as he pleased. he became a knight when he was young and thought that knights were all honor.

his parents weren’t a love match, but they came around to each other. they are more friends and companions than they are lovers, duncan came two years after his brother, and his younger twin siblings four years after him. 

there was plenty of corruption in the knight order, rude and profligate knights who abused their position. perhaps not all of them, the lord he was sworn to was a man of integrity and would suffer little immorality, but enough to disillusion him.

he rose through the ranks throughout the 17 years he served as a knight, becoming knight captain three years ago.

his sworn lord sent him, along with a token force of soldiers and knights, to offer aid to the dragon riders in their efforts against the dread.

he’s a flirty boy and he will kiss your hand if you let him, it’s not a threat it’s a promise.

he acts like he’s a player because of this but the only ~lovers~ he’s taken, he’s been hopelessly in love with. don’t fall for this facade. he’s a sappy loser.

he’s flirty, but he’s respectful. a Good Boy just trying his best.

he deeply respects the dragon riders, mostly because (he’ll never admit this) the beasts terrify him. those are some big mouths, big teeth, and can breathe fire.
