Sometimes I wonder if Hange ever held some quiet resentment towards Armin after Erwin’s death. Armin’s revival meant the end of Erwin’s life and time as commander, consequently putting Hange in Erwin’s position. Hange’s mental downfall is apparent as they face the pressure to live up to Erwin’s legacy, and knowing that Hange wanted to save Erwin, I wonder if they ever silently resent Armin for inadvertently putting them in that position.

Even more so, I wonder if Hange finally understood Armin as they burned away just as Armin did. Were their last moments full of acceptance and peace of their situation as every piece of them melted away, never to be seen again?

I’m reaching the end of aot season 4 for the first time and honestly the amount of hate that Gabi gets for killing Sasha is understandable but also crazy.

I don’t necessarily like Gabi because Sasha’s one of my favorite characters, but I understand why Gabi killed Sasha, and I think that at the end of the day, she was just an indoctrinated girl that wanted to prove that she was worthy and strong enough to inherit the armored titan. She isn’t innocent by any means, but she was also a victim of the environment around her and she believed that what she was doing was good.

I think that had Gabi killed another character, the impact wouldn’t be as strong because Sasha is so beloved and hard to dislike. Her death highlights how easily war can turn people into targets instead of people that have relationships and with other people and influence how the world around them looks.

When Gabi has to face those that loved Sasha, she sees how deeply her actions affect others, and it slowly changes her, especially when she has to cope with the loss of Falco.

So while I’m incredibly bitter that Sasha died, I think it was necessary to drive Gabi to re-sensitize herself and understand that murdering others seems like such a small thing because of how often and quickly it happens, but it tears families and friendships apart.
