Okay but another thing that's upsetting about Wolf Bride is that we get such good character designs for the female characters there (like Isobel and Layla) but they're just used for such an awful book.

Like, I would've loved to have an MC that looks like Isobel instead of just reusing the same faces all over again.

Okay but unless they can get someone to fake the results of a drug test, I doubt the drugs issue would be that big of a thing. What, will drugs actually be planted in the dorm MC and Zoey share? That makes pretty much no sense.

Uhhhh did he really just forget there are like, 4 other senior partners, who have been more established and very likely to have more sway than him, and are his equals. Pretty sure he's not going to get as much power as he hoped.

Byrne is still there, one of the literal founders and implied legal luminary, Reggie Whitman has said to hold a lot of sway because of his relationships with the associates, and then Gabe's also got influence since he's the one who had the firm take the Marcus case which is a first for the firm itself, and he has been representing the firm in public during the press conferences.

It's simply illogical for Martin to hold much sway even as senior partner. If book 2 doesn't show him being disappointed at how he needs to be on the same page as the other senior partners... Idek

So... Sadie praises MC for going all, "if I knew my own client was breaking the law I would call him out rather than push through and do something unethical enough to get me disbarred"

BUT WHAT DOES SHE DO. The hypocrisy

Remember how we had some chances to get relationship points with Martin? I think they're gonna have to make that pay off. Like how we had to be nice to Madeleine in TRR to get her loyalty.

I also think the high profile clients who now like MC, like the Rothswells and Marcus would be recommending MC to their connections so it MC has to handle those cases.

MC will have to take more cases for rich people which will require them to defend sketchy acts to break down their resolve and passion.

The other more seasoned junior partners also hate Martin for taking the position and they'll try to convince MC to team up with them to get Martin

My ideas for book 2.

I know it's probably too soon to speculate on the next Laws of Attraction book, but given the clues in the first book, I have some ideas of potential plot points. Just hear me out.

Martin trying to make the firm more about the money than the clients. It doesn't have to be ethical as long as it gets more billable hours.

Him insisting on screening the cases to make sure they're "worth the effort" (aka profitable). And discourage pro bono beyond legally required hours.

Sticking MC specifically with the worst, most likely unwinnable cases to try and make them look bad, (but of course they'll win and make Martin even more angry).

The pay off with Sadie backfiring when MC and the crew go to her to help take Martin down.

Other associates systematically quitting, forcing Martin and the other senior associates with more work than they can handle.

Martin insisting on taking a big case solo, but getting in over his head and trying to demand MC fix it, but MC quits right there and leaves.

The firm starts going under because they're starting to gain a new reputation for being sleazy and unprofessional.

Gabe also quitting, putting everyone in an even worse spot.

MC and the others getting jobs at the rival firm where Lina works. (Also probably a one night stand with her).

Martin literally having to beg for them to come back so the firm doesn't get shut down.

MC being able to start an offical relationship with their chosen LI.

Martin being removed from his position and also fired.

MC being asked to fill the position.

What do you guys think?

Like, I get that Martin’s got game, but... of all the things, it’s ridiculous that he didn’t follow procedure and didn’t give due notice. Can’t imagine that would also sit well with the older junior partners who deserved to be considered for that kind of promotion. I doubt those more seasoned junior partners wouldn’t have enough cash to do what Martin did either. So who knows, maybe the next book involves teaming up with those partners against Martin. After all, he is jack shit at forming relationships with both clients and co-workers, it wouldn’t be too hard for people to just automatically hate him. What’s he gonna do if the clients demand to have Gabe or MC represent them? MC’s the one who formed connections with the clients. MC’s also the one who left a better impression by ousting Sadie McGraw and besting her with the law. That’s more memorable to lawyers than just being the guy who bought her out. For example, Philip and Lydia Rothswell (the firm’s biggest clients). Considering how Lydia thinks Martin’s an ass while MC gained their trust and gratitude, do you think they would actually recommend anyone else to their other rich friends in need of legal advice? Someone as demanding as Philip? No. Another example, is Marcus. He’s the first celebrity criminal case the firm took and  it garnered so much publicity, MC and Gabe were in two press conferences on national tv. Marcus even liked MC so much there was an option to hook up with him. He sure isn’t going to recommend anyone else to his celebrity friends either. MC would be the one to bring in bigger clients so... actually... Martin should be trying to be good to MC if he wants those high-profile cases. Besides, we were given chances to gain relationship points with Martin, so maybe that miiiight pay off in the next book.

Okay but why didn’t Sadie just have Beau be the one to replace her? He’s definitely grown into his own and developed his own values. His work ethic and attitude improved. They’ve still got the money, and it’s not like Beau was still supporting Sadie’s actions in the end, he broke out of that shadow and walked away from her with his morals held high. That’s huge. If anything, he’s going to do his best to not fuck up the way his aunt did, and try to give honor to the McGraw name again. Plus, if Sadie really cares about her family, then doing that might help her nephew trust her again, even just a little.
