Mainstream media claiming that football fans in Australia are “like terrorism in Paris”.

Does this paint a picture about what supporting football in Australia is like? We have the crowds and the fan base to be the most popular sport in the country but the media is always at it. 

- A flare gets lit at a  football game: the fans are hooligans and they must be jailed and given life long bans, this is exactly why football is a European sport and not Australia.

- A women gets punched in the head on live TV at an AFL semi-final: It’s a isolated incident.

I fucking hate our media. We don’t get coverage of anything, apart from a 10 second segment at the end of the news, after 10-15 minutes of AFL, Cricket, Rugby Union, Rugby League. We are the biggest sport in the world, we have bigger crowds than your fucking precious rugby league (don’t even get me started on the weekly bashing, rapings, alcohol fueled violence their players and crowds go through), AND STILL they give us nothing. 

The media broadcasts the public information of every banned football “hooligan” just to prove a point. Private, information of each person, some of whom only jumped a fence to celebrate a 90th minute winner against their arch rivals, are treated like criminals and “ethnic wogs who don’t belong in this country”. 

I fucking hate our media. Football is here, we’re not going anywhere.

please don’t try to exaggerate things. yes, 118 people died tonight and it’s horrible.

but don’t be shocked that the game went on. what were they supposed to do ? open the doors and let 80000 panicked people out on the streets, near the attacks ?

a huuuge majority of the people inside the stadium didn’t even know what was going on, they just said ‘an incident’ happened after the final whistle. after that we all left calmly.

we were on our way to leave the stadium but we decide to wait a little and try to go on the field, people were chatting and playing on the goal posts, taking selfies on the benches etc.

when we left the stadium, everyone outside was calm.

do not reblog posts that say the supporters invaded the field or something, it just isn’t true.

I implore you all to watch this. Copa90′s coverage of the Sydney Derby last weekend. This is football in Australia and Sydney. 10 years ago we had nothing, no league, no fans and now we have a league and fast moving to be the biggest sport in Australia with the biggest atmosphere of any game in the country across any code. In a country dominated by Rugby League and Aussie Rules, football is here.
