‘India Today’ Ranks LPU Among The Top Six Most Promising Universities of India
The very prestigious and popular magazine India Today has ranked Lovely Professional University among the country’s top six promising engineering universities for Job-placement opportunities, in its May 22, 2017 edition. The magazine has also ranked LPU among the top seven universities for ‘student care’ and among the top eight for ‘quality of academic input, infrastructure and reputation’. In addition, the magazine has also covered LPU in its ‘Impact Feature Pages’ describing the various strengths of LPU, including its great academic record, overall exposure, safe environment, and its unparalleled placements record.
Talking about the rankings, India Today Editor in Chief Mr. Aroon Purie said, “A country’s development is directly linked with the quality of education it delivers to its citizens. That is why continuously evaluating our educational institutions is of vital significance. I am happy to report that our best colleges’ survey has been able to provide the emerging student with tools to choose a smart future. This survey encompasses new hubs of learning, and it also takes note of the deepening of competencies with private engineering colleges doing better, in some cases, than IITs.”
The survey was conducted between December 2016 and April 2017 to determine the best institutions in the country, along various parameters. Senior faculty-members were sent a structured questionnaire, in each city, and were asked to distribute 100 points across 5 parameters-“Reputation, Quality of Academic Input, Student Care, Infrastructure and Job Prospects”. After collating their individual responses, weightage for each of these parameters were derived. For this, the opinions of hundreds of experts including principals, vice-principals, heads of departments and deans were sought.
Sharing his pleasure at the favorable ranking received by the university, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal said, “We are thankful to the various sources that keep conducting such surveys from time to time. They benefit institutes and students equally, in that they provide a true measure of an institute’s merit as evaluated on the most relevant parameters.”

LPU’s 2nd Year Journalism Student – Famed Star of Odisha
“If you can’t find your way, make your own.” Says Supriya Nayak the star of Odiya Flim Industry who has got two successful films to her credit. She also has the title of runner-up of Miss Odisha 2014. She has also been awarded by Vishwa Odia Mahasangh in 2015 for her contribution to society in organizing two awareness campaigns(Swach Bharat and Good touch and Bad touch).
Talking about her life and journey, she didn’t have it easy.  Her mother worked hard to provide a bright future for Supriya and her brother. “My mother has supported me at every stage of my life. She always used to push me to explore myself. I can’t imagine my life without her”, says Supriya. Her maternal uncle was the person who introduced and taught her theatre,  after seeing her interest in getting dressed and act as a model. He used to say that theatre comes from one’s heart and no school or college can teach you that, no matter how renowned. She was only 15 when she was selected in Miss Odisha. Though she was the youngest of all she reached finale based on her skills alone.
She had her fair share of experiencing the brutalities of the industry when she wanted to try her hand in acting and was asked to compromise with her values. However, she refused to and had to wait for two years to get a role. She had just joined LPU when she got the call of an offer from one of the best directors of Odisha, Mr Ashok Pati for the movie “Love Paine Kuch Bhi Karega”. It was a huge hit and she tasted success for her hard work and patience. Her Second Flim “Only Pyar” released on January 12th has got a very positive response. ‘Only Pyar’ is a romantic drama and her character has a mental dysfunctionality.
She has shared the screen with the superstar of Odisha, Babushan Mohanty as she did in her debut movie too. She has also been awarded best debutant award by various magazines in Odisha. Coming down to her academic life she explains that she choose Mass Media as it helps one to communicate with the wide audience and hence is helpful in making her dreams of being a successful director a reality.
Talking about our handling her career and academic life together she thanks the University for being so supportive of her. “For the second film too, I would love to thank Mrs Rashmi Mittal and Mr Ashok Mittal for providing me with such recognition in LPU and immense blessings and support. Because of LPU’s support, I am able to pursue both my academic line and my dreams. LPU definitely lets you think big and helps you do big.”
She signs off with the philosophy she follows, “Never expect anything from life, concentrate on making your today beautiful, tomorrow is yet to come”.

LPU Scientists developed New Algae-based Respirator to help Mask Wearers breathe Easy
LPU Scientists have developed a multipurpose Algae-based Respirator to help ‘Masks’ wearing people breathe easy. The algae in the respirator conduct photosynthesis and remove carbon dioxide and other air pollutants while producing beneficial oxygen. It makes the air passing through masks more breathable. This four-layered respirator-‘Oxigeno’ will provide instant relief, especially to frontline workers who have to go through a lot of discomforts while wearing masks for long hours. LPU has filed a patent for the innovative respirator, which costs around INR 3,600; however,  the price can come down by 30-40 per cent with large scale manufacturing.
Considering many people find it difficult to breathe comfortably while wearing masks to protect themselves against COVID-19, LPU scientists have developed this respirator. It filters out 99.3 per cent of the harmful gasses and small particles in the air while increasing the amount of oxygen passing through it.
Team of Scientists at LPU, including Prof Dr Jastin Samuel and B Tech students Deepak Deb, Anant Kumar Rajput, Manish Kotni, shared: “Wearing a mask amid the ongoing pandemic is a must while going out in public places. However, it causes a lot of discomfort for people who have respiratory problems and for frontline workers who have to wear them for long hours. With better-designed respirator ‘Oxigeno’, we are solving this challenge by making   pure and more breathable air available through it.”
LPU scientists noted that the existing N95 or surgical masks filter out pollutants and microbes but are incapable of removing pollutant gases such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen & sulphur oxides, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Respirator ‘Oxigeno’ can also filter out particles ranging from 10 to 0.44 micrometers with the help of four layers of filters. These comprise of a HEPA filter, which keeps away dust particles, and activated carbon filter to remove VOCs and odours. The other two layers are made of a nitrogen & sulphur oxide filter that stops harmful air pollutants, and PTFE filter for removing particles as small as 0.44 micrometer. The sequence of their arrangement and the design is meant for its efficiency. The additional algae cartridge further enriches the purified air with oxygen, which is especially helpful for those who are suffering from respiratory diseases like asthma, and feel suffocated and uneasy while wearing a mask.
The respirator can also be reused by changing the algae cartridge and the filters. The algae cartridge has a life of around 40 hours of continuous use or seven days. The filters should be replaced after 48 hours of use, or every month, whichever time limit comes first. In fact, the respirator consists of an inbuilt sensor that will alert the user once the cartridge is nearing its life. The material used in Oxigeno is an antimicrobial and biodegradable plastic called PLA-Active, which prevents the growth of bacteria and other contaminants on its surface. Also, on noting that wearing a mask for long hours causes rashes to sensitive skin, LPU scientists have used a gentler silicon membrane to cover the skin around the nose and mouth area by the respirator.

LPU alumnus helping students amid the COVID-19 lockdown
The peace of our globe has been hindered by the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19) recently which has shaken the normal lifestyle of people of major parts of the world, resulting in huge loss of lives. India being no exception is also facing major turbulence which forced the Indian government to initiate a lockdown making crores of the population to sit and stay at home. Due to the havoc created, LPU has halted all the classes making the majority of the hostellers leave their hostels but the students residing in the nearby areas of LPU are facing some significant problems.
Even after the constant efforts of the University to eradicate all the difficulties for the students still staying in the hostels and the nearby areas, students are experiencing a hike in prices of the daily items causing a sense of insecurity among them. In such a situation, Mr. Avinash, an alumnus of LPU and also an entrepreneur, is helping students especially the ones living outside the campus with the availability of regular items at considerable price. Mr. Avinash who’s turning out to be a lifesaver for a bulk of students is working along with his brother to provide the students with all the required items including groceries, fruits, vegetables, milk and other eatable items at MRP without any extra charges.
The students residing in and around the areas of the Law gate, Maheru and Chaheru are getting the benefits of this service. He has also extended this facility for the students still staying inside the campus. The onset of lockdown and non-availability of basic elements has forced the local vendors to increase the prices of all items around the Law gate area to nearly double the regular MRP price.
For instance, a packet of milk of Rs. 25 is being sold at Rs. 50 and onions of Rs.35 are being sold at Rs. 115 outside the Law gate! This is surely a problematic and an unsettled situation for the students away from home and the charging of such a high amount has led to complains of students from all over those respected areas via tweet, messages and phone calls which also reached Mr. Avinash, who then selflessly decided to lend a helping hand to the students and facilitated favorable modes of payment through cash or online payment gateways and wallets.
The determinative and compassionate behavior of Mr. Avinash towards the helpless students is highly appreciable and our university is expecting more of such personalities to come forward and withstand this tough circumstance and help others to overcome the tenacious situation.

LPU’S Innovation Summit 2021: An insightful session
Interestingly, it’s kind of unique about the New Year that it brings high hopes, challenges, and new milestones for change and growth. And, people are all geared up with full-on energy and motivation. It usually marks the beginning of thoughts that are new, refreshing, and full of innovative ideas. And LPU, following the legacy of being recognized for its latest researches, inventions, and innovations, is also back with the 2021’s first and most enlightening Innovation Summit with the most successful and prominent personalities from across the globe. Yes, a two-day virtual ‘LPU’s Innovation Summit 2021’ was happily hosted by the university with global industry leaders to ignite the spark of innovation and encourage young minds to go wild with business ideas in this digital era.
Day 1 of the innovation summit kick-started with the host welcoming Ms. Erica Abrams (Co-Founder, Animal Aid Limited) for a crisp conversation on the animal safety issues and highlighting the current situation. Talking of the persisting pandemic, Ms. Abrams said, “Though it has proven to be devastating for the entire world, it has helped the wildlife across the planet. We have seen a decline in the daily number of accident cases with decreased pollution and traffic. Also, people have been kind to street animals like never before. They have fed them with food, provided them with temporary shelters, and have enabled their survival amid these conditions.” Later in their discussion, conferring about how she came to India and got settled, Ms. Abrams said, “I was surprised to see the love, care, and the tolerance that the street animals received from shopkeepers, neighbours, and people around them. Unlike the other countries, India’s constitution obliging all citizens to show compassion for all living beings played a crucial role in starting Animal Aid Limited. It was something that burst my childhood love for pets and led me to start the animal protection organization.” Adding to her statements, she said that the journey wasn’t that fruitful as it seems, but, yes, it was worth it.
As Day 1 progressed, the host invited Mr. Amit S. Lokhande, Innovator cum Entrepreneur and Research Scholar at the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, to hear his innovative views and the journey behind his success. The young entrepreneur, starting with his discussion, questioned the virtual crowd, why innovation and entrepreneurship? What stops one from working on his/her idea? And what are the barriers that one has to overcome in the initial phases of his/her journey? With these questions on board, Mr. Amit explained the process of entrepreneurship and said that it’s more than being innovative. He said, “we need to understand that it’s a process and not a one-day game that anyone can master. Starting this journey of innovation and entrepreneurship, we shouldn’t let perfect become the enemy of good. Instead, we should be more focused on making our good to perfect in due course of time.” Moving further with his live seminar, he said that our 1st attempt doesn’t need to make us successful, but, yes, our start should focus on long term visions, and we must be ready to face all barriers coming our way. He said, before commencing, we need to understand the business model canvas so that our journey yields a fruitful outcome. And, we, in the end, get the desired benefits of traveling the entrepreneurship journey.
The crowd concluded Day 1 by hearing out the other two eminent speakers, Mr. Balbir Singh Seechewlaa (Environmentalist) and Mr. Sahil Khanna (Digital Marketer and YouTuber). Both the speakers preached to the crowd in their area of expertise.
After a thriving Day 1, the crowd at LPU geared up to attend the super insightful and exclusive Day 2 of LPU’s Innovation Summit 2021 with the industry’s most prominent and successful personalities! Day 2 allowed the listeners of the summit to interact and learn about intriguing topics with speakers like Mr. Avnish Sabharwal (Managing Director, Accenture Ventures) and Mr. Damodar Sahi (Head-Global Strategic Alliances, Wipro, Digital Strategist, and World Peace Ambassador).
In the first session of the day, Mr. Avnish enlightened the crowd with his views and study on ‘Innovation in the Never Normal Era.’ Describing the persisting phase as ‘never normal,’ Avnish stressed that in the post-pandemic era, it would be tough and challenging for the industries to compete and survive in the market. Accentuating the changes in consumer behavior due to COVID-19, he said, will be a crucial factor determining the scope of businesses and innovations soon.
As the summit headed towards the second half, it acknowledged the presence of Mr. Damodar Sahi. Mr. Sahi explained the ‘Role of a Digital Marketing Strategist in Achieving the Objectives of Business.’ He said, “Dear listeners, the only success mantra which I know, and has helped many, is, never give up, never be hopeless, believe in yourself, and be positive. Always remember that you need to market yourself to be of value in this modern society.” Adding to his statements, Mr. Sahi said, “We must stand firm in our decisions and try to be a yogi instead of being a bhogi.” He believes, to create a successful business, we must update ourselves with the latest trends and connect with as many people as possible. We must analyze the market and share insights with the stakeholders. According to him, learning never ends, and one must transform every single day. Towards the end, the speaker gave a beautiful message, that always stand for yourself and maintain your integrity to the highest level. There is no such thing as less time, as we all have 24 hours. It’s just that we must learn to prioritize and keep things going. Don’t take life too intricate keep it simple.

Flying Farmer drone – LPU’s Novel Invention featured in Forbes India!
India is an agricultural country and today is the major exporter of many agro-products! In India, as per the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), a trust established by the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, 58% of livelihood source is agriculture. Thus, in a nation with such a high proportion of farmers, it becomes necessary that the history of the 1960s repeats itself. And, by the history of the 1960s, I mean the revolutionary step in the field of agriculture- ‘Green Revolution.’ Yes, you guys read it right, it’s high time to connect agriculture with the era of technology & digitalization to introduce- ‘Green revolution 2.0.’
In today’s world, where technology governs, and all utilities are at our doorstep, farming and technology must unite, and our farmers must get rightly paid for their hard work. I’m proud that LPU, committed to delivering excellence in all fields, has likewise proved its mettle in the farming sector. In recent coverage by ‘Forbes India’ on the ‘Innovations built to help farmers,’ the novel invention of proud Vertos, the ‘Flying Farmer,’ got featured. It’s not the first time that Vertos have come up with their unique innovations; now and again, LPU continues to achieve fame for its novelties that contribute to society.
Flying Farmer: A drone for pesticide treatment developed by 45 students and 5 faculties at the Lovely Professional University is a unique approach that will enable the farmer to detect weeds and pesticide treatment required. The Flying Farmer is a wireless and sensor-like drone machine used for yield and biomass mapping and surveying. The soil’s nutrient content can also be measured, reducing crop loss and aiding productivity. These pre-programmed drones may further target particular areas on the field and spray pesticides, resulting in 85% pesticide preservation. Currently, in the testing phase, the drones have an air time of 25 minutes. And are programmed with machine vision algorithms and infrared sensors, which can also detect the precise location of weeds and send information promptly to the farmer.
Appreciating the innovation of the proud Vertos, Mr. Pratham Mittal, Head of New Initiatives, LPU, says, “The human eye is vulnerable to errors that can result in decreased productivity. But the farmer will never be betrayed by these algorithmically engineered drones. These drones are useful in two ways: one, preventing pesticide wastage, and two, preventing overuse.” The Flying Farmer, still in its development stages, will be ready to aid farmers in the field within the next 6 months.“We will not file for a patent so that it’s inexpensive and easily accessible for all,” he says.
Presently, from instruments to help recognize soil conditions and their dampness level to coolers and artificial ponds, new start-ups and associations have improved to assist farmers with real-time and accurate data or approach assets to protect and expand their reap. Subsequently, taking the country towards the period of Green upheaval 2.0.

LPU student got placed in MRF Tyres: the story of Udit Attiri
LPU is known for the placement of its students in large amounts every year. From Flipkart, Amazon, Yahoo, Google, Apple, Cognizant to Microsoft, we have seen many such companies arriving in LPU for hiring the deserving candidates, offer attractive packages (highest being 42 Lacs INR) and maintain the delegacy of the University. In many of the courses, LPU has even been seen recording 100% placements. As we all know, LPU provides Professional Enhancement Programme for helping the students to attain necessary skills in their respective fields. LPU focuses immensely on conducting mock placement drives to develop self- confidence among students for which, it also hails separate placement committee for separate courses including engineering, management, sciences, arts, architecture etc.
Similarly, Udit Attri- an MBA student hailing from Mittal School of Business (India’s premier B-School) has bagged a job in MRF Tyres, a major multinational company of India. Udit has expressed his gratitude towards the University for providing him such a huge exposure that has helped him to interact with people globally. He also got an opportunity to continue a semester abroad, for him that was a transformative option which very few students are capable of receiving.
He also praised the study environment he had been offered where the teaching pattern was based on industrial exposure, case studies and simulation-based modelling completely. Here, the programme could also be designed with the help of the University’s Flexi Credit approach. Talking about his learning, he said that you have an option of choosing minor in Finance while doing major from around 70 inter-disciplinary areas which also includes Data Analytics. Also, he mentioned of being mentored by leading Corporate CXOs (Chief Experience Officer), interacting with them and also by His Holiness- the 14th Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso who also graced the 5th Convocation of  LPU as a Chief Guest back in 2015, awarded degrees to the pass outs and dignified the toppers with gold medals. All these events have triggered and motivated Udit and provided him with the proper exposure required for grabbing a job in a famous multinational company (MNC).
All these years, Lovely Professional University has maintained its name and fame in ensuring the placement of students in Top companies with lucrative packages and shaping the life and destiny of the students beautifully for their amazing journey ahead and we hope it will continue providing proper exposure to the students and help them grab more such opportunities in future!

UGC’s Novel Credit Transfer Programme Pre-established at LPU!
Are you an abroad aspirant? Still worried about the ongoing course and its credits? Umm…aren’t you a proud Verto at LPU? It’s sad when talented souls lack the opportunity to achieve their dreams just because of a few stereotypic old school regulations! But now I’m glad that the University Grants Commission (UGC) has delivered draft guidelines for building up an ‘Academic Bank of Credit (ABC)‘ following the new National Education Policy (NEP). The regulations will now allow both students and universities to design their degrees as per their convenience. Soon students will be able to transfer their credits to the other institutions having a tie-up with their present university. So, if you are an opportunity grabber and aspire to study abroad, this regulation is all you could have ever asked!
But dear friends, LPU is the place that is ahead of time and has always stood as an exception with these innovations! In a recent press release by ThePrint, Lovely Professional University got featured as the exception to the new regulations of UGC. It stated that LPU, way ahead of other universities across India, is already practicing the ‘Novel Credit Transfer Programme’ with its tie-up universities.
Lovely Professional University strives hard to fulfill the dreams of its students. Via its unique ‘Credit Transfer Scheme,’ LPU has brought ample ‘Study Abroad Opportunities.’ LPU associates students to its best member universities worldwide, including those in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Switzerland, and more. Under this incentive for credit transfer, a student can study part of the curriculum at the LPU campus and complete the remainder of his/her degree at the international affiliate university tied-up with LPU, whether from the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or some other preferred one. In any such cases, the beneficiary, after completing the remaining two years of undergraduate or one year of masters, receives his/her final degree from the International University tied-up with LPU.
LPU Chancellor, Shri Ashok Mittal, welcoming the New Education Policy and appreciating the recently released guidelines of UGC, said, “It is a very bold decision to establish an Academic Bank of Credit (ABC). While it’s present in many advanced nations, this policy now available in India would see a net increase in India’s education. It will also establish a healthier rivalry between universities and continue to offer high-quality education to attract students.”
Major Highlights ABC Regulations
Provides the freedom to students to tailor their degree with specializations/ specific modifications.
It provides opportunities for International exposure to pursue multidisciplinary education.
Flexibility to resume their degree within 7 years if having a financial crisis.
One can store Academic credits in the ABC for a maximum of 7 years or as specified separately by ABC for different subject disciplines.
Institutes can enroll in ABC after customary approval from the appropriate statutory/regulatory professional council.
