Okay y’all, I want to talk about the tournament arc??? Best tournament arc ever

So much raw emotion, and they had like, 5 different animation groups working different episodes

I’m biased, I was hecka rooting for Newt, but it was obvious the one and only winner could be our lord and savior Cory-sama, even with the obvious fake plot twist uwu

Still, I really liked the Newt vs Cory-sama battle, even if it wasn’t in the finals

If it was in the finals though, could you imagine the intensity??? The only way the tournament arc could have been better! But besides that, it was absolutely perfect, very kiss-your-fingers-like-an-italian-chef sort of MUWAH!

Also, obligatory Newt appreciation time!! Friendly reminder he’s the most underappreciated characters in the entire franchise, and honestly he deserves the world and even more. His epic guitar skills were one to put the most legendary to shame, and that one episode where he had a playing contest against the devil himself and won??? Absolutely amazing! We need to talk more about Newt! <3

To this day, I think Newt is underappreciated. Like, yeah, Cory-sama is the number one man in all our hearts, and I will scream that until the end of time. But my boy Newt Livingston III needs some love too. Even if he’s not the fan favorite due to the arc I had talked about in my first post, Newt will forever have a place in my heart. He’s a very good boy in my memories, and that will never change.

Besides, I think we all can agree he has some luscious blond locks.

While I say Cory in the House (or Cory White House do Chou Taihen for true fans) is the best anime ever, I would like to say it does have one fatal flaw.

This is riddled with spoilers under the cut. Beware.

In the Newt Betrayal Arc, the anime portrays Newt differently from the manga and completely skips over his reasons for betrayal and his entire backstory.

We are led to believe Meena’s the traitor until Newt just up and says (in a nutshell), “Oop, I’m the traitor, I hate you all!”

Whilst in the manga, there’s a nice buildup and the pacing is phenomenal. Newt’s backstory is revealed to us, and we are given reason to still keep him close in our hearts. Sure, he’s still driven out of the village, but at least we still feel for Newt more than anime-only fans.

Injustice is still present for Newt’s portrayal in both the anime and manga, but it’s not as bad in the manga.

It just hurts me that the producers of the anime completely skimmed over the Newt Betrayal Arc and didn’t put as much love and effort into it as the rest of the series.

With that being said, the rest of the adaption is absolutely stunning. Perfect. Life-like. Its use of CG is very minimal but well-executed. I’m glad the production company put as much work into the series as they did, but like I said above, I wish they did the same for the Newt Betrayal Arc.

Now, since this is my first post on this Cory in the House appreciation blog, I want to know what everyone else’s opinion on the entire series as a whole. Feel free to submit posts or send in some asks.
