How Android App Development has Made Significant Changes? What is Next in 2019?
The changes which Google or Android introduces every year or with every update has just one thing as intention, that is to make the usage more robust and to improve the performance of all the mobile applications that run on the platform. The Google Play Store has more than a billion apps and thousands of applications enter into its world every single day. So they have to ensure that each and every user enjoys the experience of using the different types of applications and under all circumstances, they perform their best.
The security in android app development technologies has been the paramount requirement for all app — users and developers and it is something in which none can compromise. In order to address the issues concerning app — security and to improve them in the longer term, there have been three major changes that have been introduced for the year 2019, for android app development services.
• The first and the foremost change is the importance level of each API and that is set to increase. From the second half of the year 2018, the developers had to stay cautious when setting the minimum and performance API levels for the app that they make and they have to ensure that the updates are in accordance with the API level. For the new application, this change came into effect from August 2018 and for the updates, it showed up from November 2018. This has done a great job in enhancing the performance of the application while maintaining the security for it as well.
• The second change is that the development of the app will be on 64 — bit versions only. The change will come into effect from August 2019, but the developers developing applications before that will need to ensure that the apps are built for the 64-bit versions and not for the 32-bit versions.
• The third and the last tweak is that Google is going to add some more security metadata over the APK which will ensure more secured verification and it will also enhance the authenticity of the app and the impact of the android app development.
Now, let us look into each change in more detail.
1. Considering the first change, the API levels play a significant role in providing protection and security to the mobile apps. Google has decided to ensure that this advancement provides more security assistance to the developers. Until August 2018, the new applications would have got to be accustomed to the API level 26 and the same would go in for the updates. But after that, the target SDK will go in the advance. Because of this, the developers need to keep the target API levels or the existing ones as the focus.
2. The second change is encouraging for app development companies and developers are to base their applications on the 64-bit versions. As of today, more than 40% of the devices that are coming up in the market are 64-bit and the remaining are 32 -bit. The motto of this change is to offer security and app performance that cannot be compromised on. Google requires that all the applications run on the 64-bit while also being compatible on the 32 -bit. Do note that the 32-bit will not be removed permanently and it will still be supported by Google Play.
3. The third change has been done with the intention to check that the distribution is by Google Play platform and nobody else. In this update, there will not be any action needed from the end of the developer of the user while developing or using the application. This update means that more users will be able to keep their apps up to date and the distribution channels will be enhanced.
