W1%RIDIM?

This is an acronym for What 1% repeatable improvement did I make today? The question comes from the idea that it is through extremely small performance improvements that we can become much, much better.
It’s easy to overlook the power of steady, small, new performance improvements that compound over time but if we improve 1% every day over the course of one year, and we compound those improvements, that is, we maintain the small improvement, we become at the end of that year 34 times better than what our performance at the start.

Bernie Theodore and Sophie Theodore. Favorite things about both: For Bernie, it’s his happiness in the morning and his total acceptance of us. For Sophie, it’s her heart that I feel lucky that I get to protect, her beauty that I feel lucky that I get to see, and the joy she brings to all.

I don’t remember the first time I heard or read Howard Zinn but I remember the feeling. The feeling was of mix of discovery, excitement and pride. Here was someone who spoke with humility and a sort of spiritual and religious reverence for the ideals I believed in. Justice, peace, equality. There was some wondrous moral power in his words that made me want to learn more about him. He was a hero, brave, doing things others were not doing.

The purpose of The Reader is to improve US society through dramatically improving the level at which Americans are informed on the most important issues. We see this purpose as having historical significance because of the necessity that Americans be well informed, engaged and inspired by honest information.
The Reader team will accomplish this mission through creating, one relationship at a time, one community at a time, what is one of the most trusted and influential local media channels for each community, in physical and digital format.
It is not necessary—nor will we strive— for every person in every community to love The Reader.
What we are striving for is for the majority of people in the majority of communities to trust it. That is necessary and it is entirely possible.
Our mission is to be the most influential media channel for the majority of American adults. Our model–unlike any other– conforms to the unique ideological contours of each unique community, while holding fast to principles such as truth, justice and tolerance. What other media model today is able to do this? Where is it?
We are living through a unique moment in which there is widespread, global outrage that the media establishment has largely betrayed the trust of the public, and widespread longing for media with moral courage. Rather than trying to revolutionize media with a new compact between audience and media entity by building a massive national platform, The Reader seeks to lead this revolution by building a massive local platform, present in every community in America, structurally capable of providing people with honest information, free to all.
The medium with which we connect with people, be it paper, the Internet or something else will change. What will not change is improving US society one community at a time as the first priority of this company. From this prioritized mission, success will be the fruit.
