E- Portfolio – Christian Karunatileke
E-Portfolio Entry 1
My first week was very enjoyable at Holmesglen and learnt a lot of new things, I’ve been given plenty of new opportunities, I intend to approach this year by taking all new opportunities onboard. Including starting our podcast and making best use of the facilities and opportunities presented to me.

The purpose of creating our own podcast is to gain practice mainly but also hopefully it blows up and gains traction. The assignments have been challenging and creative which have made them enjoyable, and I feel like I’ve overcome them well. I’d say I’ve adapted well to my time at university as it’s been a challenge and a new experience for me, I’ve made new mates and created new friendships, whilst also creating new connections with teachers and lecturers. The first week was a little nerve racking at first as I was unsure about where to go, if I’d be able to make new friends, luckily for me I knew a big group of people, so it made the transition to Holmesglen a lot easier as we were able to sit together and help each other adapt to life at Holmesglen.

E-Portfolio Entry 2
Our group worked well with each other, overall, we had open lines of communication and delegated the tasks well and each group member knew their role in the team. Unfortunately, one of the group members didn’t contribute their fair share of the work which set the group back, the group did very well to comeback and step up which left the group unbalanced but, in the end, sorted itself out. I can admit my share of the work also could’ve been a little better and placed more effort into my work, however it was still good share of work. Our group was very good with time management we all submit work in on time and met each other’s requirements of when we had to show work to each other for peer reviewing which was a positive for our group.
We gave each feedback to each other very well which is very important in group work and assignments as it’s good for peers to see how the rest of the group are going and gain different ideas or views “I think it is extremely important to consistently give positive feedback” (Bolus, 2015). believes on the importance of giving feedback. As getting feedback from peers and lecturers is key to creating a good piece of work.
This group assignment was personally a good outcome for me as I was able to learn what the standard of work should be and to what level my work needs to get to, and how I need to assist my group. I also learnt the group work can be delicate and you must be vigilant of others and understand that different people have different standard of work and have different expectations on how and when work needs to be done, so you need to be able to adapt to different people’s standards and expectations. For the group assignment later in the semester I will contribute more and try and take charge of the group and delegate the work evenly.
E-Portfolio Entry 3
I’d say I’ve struggled to balance study and external interests and work. I’ll admit I haven’t prioritized university work and assignments; I’ve left them for the last minute and rushed them a little bit, which is not a good start to this degree.
Tumblr media
My results have been good in certain classes but not great in other classes, which has shown me where I need to improve. What was stopping me from putting maximum amount of effort into my degree was work and my business prioritizing them, which I’ve now be able to put to the side for a bit to focus on work for my degree. I would say I’ve stayed motivated for my degree as I’ve made the best use of the facilities by starting my own podcast, which was taking up too much time which we have unfortunately stopped.
I’ve learned new strategies on how to be able to multi-task especially when there are deadlines floating around and how to manage my time to the best of my ability. Which I can take into my everyday life and take into industry. For the rest of the semester and the future I plan to prioritize university work and be organised and submit assignments on time.
E-Portfolio Entry 4
Personally, I’d say I respond to feedback well and adjust accordingly however I don’t ask for enough feedback on assignments which becomes difficult to adjust my work, which is a fault of my own which I need to improve on. I’d adjusted to feedback from the first 3 Portfolio entries, I used more artefacts which enabled me to talk and describe them which should get me more marks and better results. I received to speak about external activities I’ve undertaken including creating my own podcast which I’ve added and gone into detail about In group assignments when I’ve asked for feedback, I’ve made changes as recommended by peers. For future assignments and the rest of my time at university I will take all feedback on board and act it, at times I’ll admit I personally take feedback as failure and I haven’t done a get job whereas I need to understand and get my head around the fact that feedback is just creating improves to make my work better and to the best potential and outcome possible. Overall I’m starting to understand the whole process on giving and receiving feedback and how helpful and beneficial it can be.
E-Portfolio Entry 5
I’ve adapted very well to working on assignments and working in groups with peers to collaborate and submit a good piece of work. I’ve been able to conduct research very well and provide credible intel to answer assignment questions. In the future I need to show work to peers or teachers before submitting and get them to review my work and give me points for improvement, which will enable me to get the best result possible. So far, I’ve felt positive about the assignments, I’ve enjoyed most assignments including the research I’ve undertaken and the questions I’ve answered. What I should be doing in assignments is being more organised and get them in on time and start planning earlier to achieve better results.
Overall I’ve really enjoyed the work so far and the assignments we’ve been given, I’m feeling really good about the assignments however I know that personally I need to apply myself more so I can reach my full potential as I’m not putting the maximum amount of work in that I could be and just scraping through results wise however if I applied myself which I intend on doing for future semesters I can get higher results.
E-Portfolio Entry 6
Overall, I think I’ve adapted well to my first semester at Holmesglen was a whirlwind of experiences both expected and surprising. Transitioning from Swinburne to Holmesglen came with it’s fair share of challenges but it’s also been a massive eye opener and helped me grow my knowledge in ways I hadn’t expected and has presented me with opportunities I wasn’t expecting.
Tumblr media
What surprised me the most was the standard of work and the level of the assignments which also includes the number of assignments at one time. I quickly realised I had to give up some of my external activities to be able to prioritize and accommodate assignments.
On the positive side, I enjoyed the freedom and flexibility of classes and allowed to work on topics that interested me. I was granted new opportunities including using podcast facilities and we’ve had some incredible opportunities this semester including learning the operations of a lawn bowls club and we had some incredible guest speakers come in and share their stories which was very insightful.
Tumblr media
There were a few negatives in my case which included the workload I personally struggled to keep up which I feel like improved as the semester went on There were moments when I felt anxious and doubted whether I could keep up. But eventually managed to get everything in and had a better second half of the semester.
The strengths I’ve developed are being able to work in groups well and collaborate with others, and adapt to their levels. I’ve need to change a few things including organisation and time management but overall proud of myself this semester.
Overall, my first semester at university was a good learning period for me with its ups and downs. It wasn’t perfect, but it’s left me with plenty to think about next semester and for the rest of my time at Holmesglen which includes being more organised and better prepared. Overall I’m proud of the way I conducted myself this semester and I’m looking forward to next semester being able to adjust and hopefully get better results.
