The Last Gift Under The Tree
Tumblr media
In “The Christmas Story” by author Jean Shepherd. In the movie, Ralphie Parker follows his dream of finding a Red Ryder BB gun under the tree all the way to Christmas morning. As the story unfolds, all of the gifts have been opened and there is no Red Ryder BB gun for Ralphie. He sits there for a moment facing what seems to him to be the sad reality of a dream unfulfilled. His dad lets him squirm a minute or two, and then says “Ralphie what’s that over there?” as he points to an obscure location off to one side of the tree hidden out of sight. Ralphie’s eyes light up and he scoots over to grab the long rectangular box, excited about what is obviously inside. He tears open the paper and his dad laughs joyfully as Mom is reservedly surprised and Ralphie pulls out the dream of his lifetime, a Red Ryder BB gun! My own Dad once pulled the “all gifts have been opened” scenario on me! I had finally turned twelve years old. For a young boy in Pennsylvania that meant I could start hunting! I had been asking for a shotgun for my big gift. But after all the gifts were opened, I had a moment of sad realization that for some reason I wasn’t getting a shotgun. Just like in the movie, my Dad said, “Nolan what’s that over there behind the curtain?” Sure enough just covered up with an inconspicuous piece of my Moms sewing cloth was a Mossberg 410 gauge shotgun! Even to this day years later, getting that shotgun remains one of my favorite Christmas memories! My cousin Anita has been research Read the full article

Dangers of Marrying Unbeliever
Tumblr media
Christians who marry nonbelievers have “compromised” their love for Christ in acting in “open defiance of the teaching of the apostles and of God” and thus must be removed from church membership. First, the professing believer is defying and rebelling against an explicit command of the New Testament of God. So, if this teaching is made clear to the believer, and the believer rejects obedience to this command, she or he is acting in open defiance of the teaching of the apostles and of God A believer who chooses to marry an unbeliever, “shows how deeply compromised the believer’s love for Christ is.” “How can the heart of a believer embrace Jesus as its supreme treasure and satisfaction, and reject the words of Jesus in order to be in the arms of one who has no faith and no true affection for the believer’s most treasured possession “It’s inconceivable. I’ve always found that incomprehensible. Something is deeply, deeply wrong with the heart’s affection for Christ. That’s the second layer of sinfulness.” If a Christian marries a nonbeliever against the advice of church leaders, then the marriage is “a spurning of the authority of the elders, which God gave to protect the sheep from sin.” A Christian who moves ahead with the marriage despite the counsel of elders must be removed from church membership “to sober the disobedient believer, wake them up, and win them to a repentant and obedient heart and restoration.” “Many people do not take the Bible seriously; They are baf Read the full article

Did Mary Know More Than We Think She Did?
Tumblr media
As often portrayed in the movies, was Mary this quiet, shy thirteen-year-old girl as perceived by religious tradition, or does a closer look support otherwise? Furthermore, just how much did Mary know and understand during the very time period of the Immaculate Conception, her pregnancy and the birth of Christ? A closer study of the story and an expanded horizon of thought may have you looking at this amazing woman in a totally new light! First, we will come to see that Mary was probably not a young girl. This we know through two simple observations. First, in Luke 1:28, the angel Gabriel states “And having come in, the angel said to her, Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you, blessed are you among women!” (NKJV) The archangel Gabriel addressed her as a woman. Now while an intellectual debate could be started here arguing that that was simply because physically her body had matured to the point that she was able to have children, consider this thought. How special would she have been to be a virgin unless she had reached an age where still being a virgin would be a considered a virtue? For centuries, the fact that Mary was a woman and still a virgin had a profound impact on young women’s lives as they sought to remain pure until marriage. For over twenty-five years I worked in youth ministry challenging both young women and men to wait until marriage for sex. I often used Mary as the Biblical example of an individual that God used because she waited. At some poin Read the full article

"The Peace Cross": At The Crossroad of Peace and Justice; What Will Prevail If There Is No Justice?
Tumblr media
The concern for justice in our world today keeps inclining. However, before we can achieve justice for the world, we must better understand how God views it. The Scripture tells us that God just and will judge injustice. As Christians, we should stand up against injustice. As people of faith, we should not rebuff from the difficult truth of this prevalent injustice that is affecting our communities. We should seek to confront the reality of the broken world in which we participate and stand for the truth. What does the Bible say about peace and justice? What bible verses can help us understand these very important concepts? Does these issues even concern God? The Bible gives us many practical stories that are filled with wisdom that is so applicable, even in our modern era. While the Bible is crowded with verses about justice and peace, I will concentrate attention on only one injustice that happened within David’s family and that which teared his family apart hence distracted his kingship. I won’t go into all the details, but you can read them in 2 Samuel 13 if you’d like. Here’s the gist. The tragic story of a beautiful princess — sexually abused by her half-brother and then betrayed by her powerful father David. It becomes a well-guarded family secret no one dares mention. No justice prevailed but everyone pretended there was somewhat peace amidst the injustice. Tamar, the young royal princess, who lived in a world where her father and brothers were powerful. A Christian Woman in Pakistan Has Been Murdered For Not Accepting a Muslim Man's Proposal
Tumblr media
A 24-year-old Christian woman was killed in Rawalpindi, Pakistan after her parents rejected a marriage proposal and an invitation to convert to Islam by two Muslim men. The International Christian Concern (ICC) said that the two men involved in this murderous act; Muhammad Shehzad and a man named Faizan. They shot and killed that woman, Sonia. Sonia was confronted and killed by these men on her way to work at a garment factory. Prior to Sonia's family reports, they say that Sonia had been harassed by Muhammad Shehzad for the past six months and had even tried to force the woman into a physical relationship. She refused the man's advances due to their differences in faith. According to CBN, Shehzad had tried many times to propose to Sonia to marry him and convert to a Muslim. Reports had it that Shehzad's family had even tried to negotiate a marriage deal with Sonia's family yet she and her family had refused their proposal. "A few days before the incident, Sonia was again harassed by Shehzad," Allah Rakha, Sonia's father, told International Christian Concern (ICC). "Since she was a committed Christian she did not betray Jesus and sacrificed her life for her faith." "We are being harassed and pressurized to withdraw the case against culprits," Rakha continued. "However, I want culprits brought to justice." Police officers have been able to arrest the man Faizan on Sunday but still on the ground looking for Shehzad as investigation on this matter continues. Consensus Or Conspiracy?
Tumblr media
CBS’s television show “Blue Bloods” on CBS is one of the most popular shows on the air. Although there are no new episodes of “Blue Bloods being produced, it continues to be one of the most watched re-runs on television. “Blue Bloods”, which casts a favorable light on the role of police officers in New York City, has a re-occurring sub-plot, which constantly challenges the viewers’ thirst for mystery. Detective, Danny Reagan, repeatedly brings cases for prosecution to his oldest sister Erin, a leading district attorney. A similar scenario repeats itself over and over. Danny brings a case against a perceived criminal and Erin always demands “proof”! “Give me evidence Danny, she exclaims, I cannot try a case without evidence!, It’s the law!” Each program always has a legally favorable ending after Danny is instructed to work harder, dig deeper, and draw from the combined help of his family and other experienced law enforcement officials to develop a “rock solid case”! Erin has to keep reminding Danny as he is a bit of a rogue cowboy type, “Do it by the book, Danny, do it by the book!” It recently seemed to me that all of the allegations surrounding this recent election fraud follow a similar pattern. President Trump’s legal teams are presenting lawsuits and legal challenges to this election at many different levels across the nation. There seems to be an “Erin Reagan” cry in the land from both the general populous and the court systems, where applicable, to create a “rock so Read the full article

Will God Expose The Craftiness Of A Deceitful Plan?
Tumblr media
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” Jeremiah 17:9 (NKJV). It has been noted that the Bible is unique in that it contains autobiographies in which the authors recorded not only their own failure, but also the consequences of those failures. When I used to challenge my youth groups to study the stories of the Bible I also warned them that many the stories were “R” rated and beyond! I used to encourage them to read both the Old and the New Testaments, because the New does teach us about our everyday Christian walk with God, but it is in the Old Testament that we discover the heart of God, and most especially, how He really feels about sin! One of the most famous stories in the Bible which shows God exposing the craftiness of sin and its’ consequences is found right in the beginning of the Bible. It is the story of Adam and Eve falling into sin in the Garden of Eden. They were deceived by Satan masquerading a serpent, and ate the forbidden fruit. According to Genesis 3:8, (NKJV) when God came looking for Adam and Eve following this act of disobedience, they promptly hid themselves among the trees in the Garden. God called out to Adam saying “Where are you?” Adam revealed where he was and as the rest of the story unfolded, God exposed his sin. According to God’s own words, their seemingly simple act of disobedience, however lame it may seem to an unlearned reader, according to God’s own words, brought the curse of sin on all of mank Read the full article

Peace Is Not The Absence Of War But The Presence Of God
Tumblr media
Peace is one of the most ambiguous prerequisites in our human life, you will bear with me that everyone wants to experience peace. It has been one of the yearnings of humanity throughout all ages. Anytime there has been war, there has been a great desire for peace. But the truth must be told; there are deeper contextual meanings we have overlooked for aeons and we ought to figure out the deeper context of peace. Many times when we think of peace, we think of the Jewish word: "Shalom," which people use as the definition of peace.  In order to understand this word, we must reflect on the facets of the  Hebrew term shalom, which is the bedrock of the English word “peace.” Shalom practiced is profound, comprehensive well-being — spiritual, physical, social, and psychological; it is evident in all of one’s relationship — being put right with God, with oneself, and with others. The three key areas where peace operates. Shalom with God Literally, shalom is reconciliation with God. shelamim offering is one of the offerings under the Mosaic covenant— the peace offering. The shelamim is a covenant of friendship (Numbers 25:12), and express community between God and His people. God is reconciling all things to himself through Christ (Colossians 1:20), those who believe the gospel experience this reconciliation. Shalom with Others Shalom also means peace with others, reconciliation of peace between parties, warring factions, nations, and the end of hostilities and war (Deuteronomy Read the full article
