As this experience of creating a blog comes to a close, I would like you to know that although blogging itself was difficult for me, getting some important information out there about recycling was a very positive result. Although I will no longer have time for anymore posts to the blog, the information and links to other articles already on the blog are very important.  They will help you get an idea of the many diverse and difficult circumstances facing the recycling industry today.  They can also help you see what is being done around the world to improve recycling and our environment. The internet is full of information on recycling, and most of it seems to be pretty reliable.  My suggestion is that if you come across something that doesn’t seem right, or it’s just a new concept to you, look for other resources on the same issue and see if others are saying the same thing.  An example would be the issue of Waste to Energy, you must really look at all sides of it to get a true perspective.  Recycling that makes a difference takes effort, it’s not free, and it can be inconvenient.  Now I guess my questions are, what other chose do we have?  Whose responsibility is it?  Aren’t each one of us responsible for our own actions?  Perhaps you can consider these questions the next time you have some trash or recycling to “get rid” of.  Take a minute, think a bit, and do it right.

The following article by Paul Singer, with USA Today, suggests that the problem with America’s recycling program, might just be you and me.  This is a great article that talks about many of the problems in regard to contamination in the recycling.  It also talks about the pricing of recyclable material and how it dropped dramatically, but over the last few years is rebounding.  I believe this article is credible and agree with it because it reflects what I have read in other articles.  It also reflects what I have seen in our MRF and what the experts that I speak with tell me.

We Scream For Clean Stream
I am thrilled that I found this blog post!
by Emily Cohen | Jul 5, 2016
It speaks precisely to all the problems of recycling I have been talking about, right down to Kamikatsu, Japan! The claims that Emily makes are well backed up, and well stated.  I did find one of the links a little dry, and I’m not saying which one, because that might taint your view of it.  Ok, I’ll give you hint, it has to do with statistics, but maybe that’s why it’s a little dry.  The one thing that does seem to come through more than I would like is a sales pitch for the company. Here is the link, I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!

Recycling and You.
We all know that recycling is important!  So what else is new?  Well how about learning to recycle correctly for where you live?  Seems easy enough. But for a variety of reasons people want to either recycle how they think it should be done, or how they are used to recycling from where they just moved from, either a different community, different state, or different country.  When people throw everything they think either is recycling or should be recycling it creates a problem - a big problem. It’s called contamination and it can cause hundreds of pounds of good recycling to be thrown away. I hope to explore recycling solutions in general, which is why we have so many area’s that recycle differently and why it’s so important to recycle correctly.

Recycling and You
We all know that recycling is important!  So what else is new?  Well how about learning to recycle correctly?  Seems like an easy answer, just recycle everything you can. Good answer, almost. Not everything that is recyclable can be recycled in every location.  The importance of learning what you can recycle for your location is critical.  Recycling incorrectly can cause hundreds of pounds of good recycling to be thrown away - it’s called contamination and it’s a big problem, for several reasons. One is that when people move to different area, they want to recycle the way they did from where they previously lived. Another is that people just have preconceived ideas about how recycling should work.  I hope to look at recycling from several different aspects, to help readers understand recycling and the importance of recycling rules.
