This article talks about the controversy over a dress's color that a user recently posted up on Tumblr. A simple question as to what the real color of the dress was instantly cause a huge debate over many social media outlets on Thursday night. The debate was whether the dress was gold and white or blue and black. As a result, many theories were made as to why everyone couldn't agree to one answer. Later, Wired.com explained the real reason why people experienced different views of the dress.
When I first saw this dress, I was eating dinner in a dark lit restaurant and I saw the dress as white and gold. However, once I got back home I saw the dress as blue and black. I was first introduced to the image over my Groupme and once I got home, my Facebook newsfeed and as well as my Instagram feed was filled with pictures and statuses of the dress. What I found interesting was not the controversy over the color of the dress but that such a simple thing such as a dress could cause major social media outlets to fuss over. It really shows how much social media affects our daily lives.

Social media such as Facebook and Twitter have been profiting on social media users' posts. They earn advertisement revenue each time you update a status, share a selfie or post videos. Now, a new social media upstart called Tsu can help users make money on their owns posts as well. The founder and CEO of Tsu Sebastian Sobczak explains that Tsu means "aesthetic idea." Users also called influencers can get paid as much as 90% of Tsu's revenue profit. Influencers get paid for the relevance of their content and the size of their social network. As a result of this new social network Tsu has gained over 3 million users in less than 4 months. There are even celebrities such as Timberland, LL Cool J and 50 cent who have joined Tsu as well.
I think this new social media network is a great idea. Not only can influencers express themselves but they can also make some sort of extra income by doing so. There are success stories that come from users using Tsu such as the 3 ordinary Americans that were talked about in this article. It also help these influencers get reached by other people who may offer new and exciting opportunities depending what they post on their social media.

According to this article, the author believes that older adults such as seniors should be mindful on their use of social media. Although it is agreed that social media serves as a useful tool to stay connected with families, there is also a downside to it. It takes away a substantial amount of time away from more productive things such as volunteer work or assisting in a foundation for students. The author believes that social media can be dangerous in that it can be intoxicating and addicting. Another negative to social media is the constant worry of privacy. Any information on the web has no security of being safe. Lastly, he believes that the best way for older adults to connect with their families and the younger generation is through the old fashion way by building bridges and doing hands-on activities with them.
I agree with the author that the best way to connect with families is to do it the old fashion way which is through verbal communication and hands-on activities. Most of our generation are too reliable on social media which can be a huge problem because there is a lack of conversations between people. Also, a lot can be misinterpreted through the use of social media because expression is not present. This article ties into class because it compares digital immigrants (people born before all this technology was built)  in connection to digital natives (people my age born into the technology era). As a result, seniors are turning towards social media because their grandchildren are using it. They want to feel connected to them and by doing so they must conform and start using it as well. However, I do believe that the use of social media in moderation is acceptable but not when you're constantly using it.

Police are now using social media as a resource in hopes to prevent future threats and violence. Law enforcement experts believe that it will help them by serving as an "early detection system" for trouble. This is the result of recent threats made against police officers. Now, police departments are closely monitoring Facebook posts, Twitter feeds, and Instagram threads. However, there are some issues such as how posts made on social media are protected by the first amendment. Another issue is whether or not these threats are credible to use and the validity of it is extremely hard to decipher.
I believe that using social media as a tool for linking threats and violence is a good idea. However, many posts could be invalid and inaccurate based on the first amendment which is the freedom of speech. There are many people out there that likes to put out hoaxes just to seek attention. Hopefully, police are able to take precaution while trying to prove the validity of these posts.

Twitter is turning into a social media talent agency for internet celebrities after acquiring Niche. Niche is a startup company based from New York that helps social media stars connect with big-brand advertisers. Currently, Niche has over 6,000 internet celebrities in their database as well as over 100 brands and agencies. Niche finds the perfect "influencer" to target a specific audience for these brands. As a result, Niche hopes to turn these internet celebrities as pitchmen for these companies.
In my opinion, I believe that it was a good move by Twitter because it turned out beneficial for all 3 parties. For these social media stars, not only are they gaining more popularity through their connections with these brands but they are also gaining more opportunities that will further their career as well. As for Niche, it is more cost-efficient because now they don't have to spend thousands of dollars on hiring A-list celebrities. Finally, Twitter's shares rose 2.7% and the stock is up more than 30% for the year.
