"Social media is changing the way we communicate and the way we are perceived, both positively and negatively. Every time you post a photo, or update your status, you are contributing to your own digital footprint and personal brand." - Amy Jo Martin quotes from BrainyQuote.com

How Social Media is Shaping Politics: My Opinion.
Everyone remembers back in 2009 when President Barak Obama arguably used social media networks to create a savvy digital campaign that led him to The White House.
Now, four years later, social media has become the biggest form of news and the way people perceive current events. The biggest change that can occur is that framing by social media can shift how the professional media itself frames stories. Social media feeds the loop of news judgements and will continue to do so throughout this election.
There is a quote that stands out to me by Meredith Conroy which states:
“The fundamentals of democracy assume a knowledgeable public, one that is capable of representing its own self-interest effectively. A healthy democracy, then, should see tandem movement between political knowledge and political participation. Here we find that while online political group membership is correlated with offline political participation, we do not see an equally significant correlation with levels of political knowledge.”
That quote is really worth thinking about and understanding because it has a lot to do with democracy and who is actually participating and showing face, rather than exploding via media. I believe political speech’s have a huge impact on who a citizen votes for because it shows effort and truthfulness.

Facts.
In the 2012 election, 30% of registered voters were encouraged to vote for either Mitt Romney or Barack Obama by family and friends via posts on social media such as Facebook and Twitter.   20% have encouraged others to vote by posting on such sites.  And once voters made a decision, 22% let others know how they voted through social networking sites.

I’m not the type of person to actively keep up with political news, but when I do it is mostly from my politically inclined friends and brother (who surprisingly works for the Government) who share news articles, videos, and opinions via Facebook.
Social media has radically altered how many...
