Primary Product Research
This showed me that against products in competition with IRN BRU, that the product is only producing average buying rates against other drinks. As well as struggling against a more established brand in Fanta. Based on this, in my advert I will try and show the benefits of IRN BRU and increase IRN BRU’S status as a brand to be more well known

Irn Bru Advert analysis/ Research
It begins with a man walking towards the camera, with a voiceover of a man giving information about the new IRN BRU(EXTRA). So then the man comments ‘that is amazing’ so this manages to inform the audience about the product with feeling boring. It the goes onto a squirrel talking, a big english man speaking Mandarin, an invisible woman and finally a dead man resurrected. These were imagery to imply IRN BRU EXTRA will make you able to create miracles. Therefore you will be drawn to buy it. Then the slogan “No sugar, Tastes amazing, Unbelievable stuff.” This was a good summary of what they want you to know and therefore when you are next at the shop, you will think I will try that new IRN BRU as you remember what they have told you.
IRN BRU, as a brand like many other canned or bottled drinks strives for a demographic of everyone, and isn’t biased towards any audience however recently to dodge the new sugar tax- started using less sugar and targeted health conscious people, however not just being drawn to one type of people- I know this because in the adverts they include a variety of ages as well as languages.
Wikepedia’s brief description of Irn Bru is as follows:Irn-Bru is a Scottish carbonated soft drink, often described as "Scotland's other national drink". It is produced in Westfield, Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire, by A.G. Barr of Glasgow.
Also according to the BBC  AG Barr has set a target, by this autumn, of 90% of brands having low or no sugar content.(Irn Brus owner).
This shows the consumer they’re trying to become a healtier brand, aswell as introducing products such as Irn Bru Xtra and Irn Bru sugar free, with their website claiming them to have low calories.
Although they try to gain a multicultural audience, they face the fact they are a larger scale local brand and people know the product as Scotland’s other national drink! which before their new slogan ‘IRN BRU gets you through’ was their original slogan, obviously referring whisky as the first. This shows the audience they are trying to break this stereotype and branch out without forgetting their roots and continuing to be very popular in Scotland. IRN BRU also recently changed their recipe and put up the price, in spite of this sales increase as the daily telegraph reported-Irn-Bru maker AG Barr's new recipe powers sales in spite of price rises. IRN Bru made some good decisions recently, the daily telegraph detailed it well,
Mr White said the company had worked hard to cut costs but that roughly 1.5 percentage points of its 8.8pc rise in revenue to £136.6m came from price increases. The chief executive said this pace of sales growth was a “significant outperformance” of the total soft drinks market which grew value by 4.2pc in the 26 weeks to July 30, according to IRI Market Place data.

After the focus group I decided to amend the problems that had been pointed out to me. Making the idea clearer swell as the overall presentation of it. I also made the characters and their roles more obvious and more descriptive. As well as doing some Primary research.

19.10.17 Feedback on ‘The Pot Heads’
Firstly, well done on bring your presentation together. You have used existing programmes (Top Boy and Breaking Bad) and reworked them into a concept for your target audience (replacement for Holllyoaks time slot) by devising a potentially successful (working) idea.
You have thought about competition, product placement as well as basic production research considerations (actors, resources
Things to consider to make you evidence stronger are:
You must conduct (as well as document the fact you have done it) primary research into the viability of your idea, capture people’s opinions and discuss outcomes/ findings (whether to take on board feedback received or not).
Create a sketch/ image to clearly explain the ‘hierarchy’ of the gangs you discussed in your presentation.
Create more detailed and clear character biographies for each of your key characters. Kill the bullet points (visually confusing).
Add more rationale/ description to the images you put forward in your presentation, (Why are they there? Why do they matter?).
Try to clarify the layout of the budget, overall total is unclear.
Think bout what ‘health and safety’ measures you will need to consider within production when filming dangerous gang-related acts).
It might be worth considering how the interactivity of the viewers (Facebook and Twitter) can feed in to the changing seasonal storyline changes you discussed in the presentation). Provide a few examples of what storylines (subplots) will evolve.
—————————————————–
Remember - at the start of your presentation begin with the title and discussing how the title captures the concept/ story.

The idea of our show The Pot Heads is quite original, however we took inspiration from shows like Breaking Bad and Top Boys. Breaking Bad has relating themes of drugs and Top Boy shares the theme of gang warfare which the show will eventually get into. Although our show has similarities our show is very different as it’s in a different context (In terms of Breaking Bad not being forced into the situation) as well as being targeted for a younger generation.

UNIT 3 TASK 1C
Audience research, is seeing who your audience is or should be, So the main groups to put an audience into are, Age, Social economic status, gender, race and religion. For example for an antiques show the obvious audience would be middle class British old people. It’s a helpful way of research as when creating your show it can help you know firstly language and formality but secondly relevant themes to the audience.
research into the make-up and habits of the audience of a particular television or radio programme or network(definition)
https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/audience-research
Market research:the study of influences upon customer and consumer behaviourand the analysis of market characteristics and trends
This research is helpful as it can help you know what to base your product on as you know what will be popular.
https://www.collinsdictionary.com/spellcheck/english?q=production+research
Tumblr media
It is helpful as you're prepared for implications, its having a contingency plan and booking equipment and everything within the production.

Primary research (field research) involves gathering new data that has not been collected before. For example, surveys using questionnaires or interviews with groups of people in a focus group. Secondary research (desk research) involves gathering existing data that has already been produced.

UNIT 3 TASK 1a
Qualitative research is very personal opinion orientated and gives an insight into the overall subject rather than just amount of people that like it that quantitive offers, Quantative however gives a more true reflection of an overall opinion as it’s multiple people however doesn’t give multiple answers and actual insight, however its a lot faster and cheaper than qualitative. Both types have their individual quality’s for certain questions, So for a question regarding depression  qualitative would be really the better option as you need the personal insight, whereas if a company trying to find statistics regarding what food sells the best quantitive makes more sense.
Quote from dictionary!!
Quantitive research normally involves gathering numerical/statistical data this research can be very useful as there’s no grey area and is factual and gives the person a clear outline of what they need to do to either improve or make their project relevant. This can also be good for a company trying to get an overall review of something. Most film review sites use this and most people will look at a review before watching a film. So not only does it give the audience a guideline it also gives the film company an outline of how the movie did. The box office also indicates how well the movie did as the overall target for the film company is revenue.
Qualitative research is more opinion based and is more humane that is why they use it in court (mostly as different cases)

UNIT 3 TASK 2 EVIDENCE
It’s showcasing womens perceptions of their self and their confidence/self esteem.Dove as a company manage to get their brand in at the end, So its tricking you to forget they’re advertising products, they’re (dove) are always trying to break inequality barriers, this makes them a friendly company, they’ve managed to make themselves a conversation piece, so ultimately increases sales of Dove as people remember dove.
They also don’t use a specific nationality for the experiment, it’s creating a theme of Beauty isn’t racist and regardless of nationality you should love yourself. They also don’t use one specific language and I believe this is important as the whole advert is to not give into expectation and to all speak English would defeat the objective/theme as it’s trying to show women should love who they are.
Men are absent from the advert and this is bad as it’s kind of pushing gender inequality, although women have been oppressed over the years, it’s kind of saying men don’t have these mind set issues- for an advert pushing confidence it’s ignorant.
Another issue is there are no old people and out of all people they are the some of the people struggling with confidence because of the ageing process surely this should be there target audience?
Dove also only present their logo and the end and the whole video relates to it as throughout it uses bright colours which is symbolic for happiness and the dove logo is white and gold which is purity and happiness.
It also showed how women some have to put on a charade to seem normal, so in society they’ll say they're beautiful however they will in their mind’s think they’re average, I think it was important that they showcased different mindsets as it pushes the theme of the only thing stopping you being beautiful is yourself.
The cctv camera shot  illustrates that women always believe they're being watched and care about other indidividuals opinions of how they should look and act, so they believe they can't be theirselves.Another thing which i thought was important that was that they included a mum with children and I believe it was important they showed her feeling average as a lot of women struggle with confidence after pregnancy and don’t feel beautiful anymore so it is very uplifting to get her feeling beautiful.
It is also important that within the interviews the women are looking directly through the camera so creates a psychological connection with the audience so makes them feel part of it and reflect their own mindset.
