milkvan celebrating bc the directors told millie “you need to stop spreading rumors that byler is gonna happen” when it’s literally pr… like… why would they need to stop people from theorizing and fantasizing about a ship happening? Canon or not canon the st writers have always encouraged ship discourse… unless… this time if it spreads too much it might actually end up in spoiler territory and ruin the surprise for S5

Stranger Things has a HUGE fandom. I think just one way we could come together and make an impact is by donating to the Entertainment Community Fund (they mention it specifically on the WGA Strike site).
Something fandoms do all the time is come together and manage to donate hundreds upon thousands of dollars, and bc there’s so many of them, each of them don’t even have to donate a lot.
News articles popping up that it’s been reported the fund received hundreds upon thousands of donations over a short time, likely as a result of ST fans coming together to do their part, feels like the least we can do right?…
Im trying to explore all options here.
Most of us live nowhere near the studios so protesting isn’t an option.
Spamming Netflix social media with our qualms seems like a lost cause bc they deal with fans hounding them every other day for canceling their favorite shows and don’t bat an eye, granted those fandoms obviously weren’t too big in the first place otherwise the shows probably wouldn’t have been canceled in the first place so that’s not saying a lot. Regardless, that also feels like a dead end, assuming our help starts and ends with us spamming Ted Sarandos’ instagram, that won’t go very far.
My point is, we don’t have that many options.
We can spread the word and hopefully those that do have the ability to do something more active in person will be inspired to.
We can do what we can online to be heard.
But it only goes so far.
I feel we are fortunate to have a HUGE fandom, so the prospects of focusing on spreading the word about the strike and encouraging fans to donate to that fund, is something that feels substantial, that would 100% make an impact in terms of it directly benefiting the writers.
I personally don’t have much money to give and I know that’s the case for a lot of people. But I could do it at least once and if we managed to pull together hundreds upon thousands of fans to do the same, that’s gotta be worth something?

now imagine that st writer lurking on the byler tag and seeing us pointing out all the things in the show that foreshadow byler and giggling like “ahaha I wrote that” and also reading our fucking dissertations about why byler is 100% endgame like… we can be a bit deranged but at least we have media literacy…

I don’t wanna be delusional but… the person who posted it is not a fan account, the writing matches with one on the ST4 movie inspiration board, it’s outside the netflix hq, it doesn’t appear to be photoshopped… In conclusion, byler endgame
edit: the account belongs to a st writer!?!

I’ve already written about it in one of my posts but the fact that milvans on twitter still argue that Will, Mike and El are NOT in a love triangle is baffling…like… the duffers have already written multiple love triangles in the same way, there’s always one of the two love interests that is blatantly more suitable for the character at the center (ex. jonathan for nancy) and this new love triangle is not an exception… so the things is:
(a) heteronormativity makes them so blind they can’t see it
or
(b) they can see it but they won’t admit it bc that would mean they already know that the outcome is literally obvious and they don’t like it…

a milkvan said something like “m*leven HAS to be endgame because their children with powers will become the new spin off protagonists” and I literally had a nightmare about the duffers pulling a boruto situation where they sacrificed the undeniable chemistry between two male leads to continue the series with sons and daughters of the og protagonists…

The outcome of the El/Mike/Will love triangle from a screenwriting perspective
Recently some milkvans are getting a bit too bold so here’s a new analysis.
A well-written love triangle isn’t so much about the people involved but what they represent for the central character. Usually the person at center of the triangle has two versions of themselves, one is the true self and the other one is the mask. The mask is made up of excuses and white lies, the true self is free and unburdened. These two versions fight one another in the subconscious of the central character (who I really am vs who I want others to think I am). This also translates in the conflict between true desires and actual behavior: what I do because I should (in order to appear to others in a certain way) vs what I really want for myself.
Such tormented characters (*cough cough* Mike Wheeler) are perfect subjects to be the centers of love triangles because their love interests perfectly embody their internal conflicts.
Usually one love interest is in love with the mask, the other is in love with the true self because they can see through the lies or because the center doesn’t lie to them. So the outcome of the triangle is ultimately a matter of who the center needs vs who they want or, better, think they want.
How is all of this presented to the audience? Usually through proximity, which means showing how the center’s behavior switches when they are in the company of one interest vs the other, which gives the audience the chance to compare the options and start rooting for one over the other.
edit: someone pointed out that a good example of this is the very different way Mike deals with conflict, apology and owning up to his mistakes with El vs Will.
Proximity is also subconsciously reminding the audience that there is more than one option, whether it’s visually or verbally (ex. putting the two options in the same frame or talking about them in conversations).
We definitely know that this way of portraying a love triangle is what the Duffers do because we’ve already seen it with Nancy in the middle, and the conversation she has with Murray basically explains this whole concept and leads to the moment of realization.
Now Mike is in the same exact situation and that’s why edits where he gets murray’d seem perfectly fitting… because it’s literally the same triangle but heteronormativity affects people so much they can’t see it or, if they see it, they refuse to admit it. Because admitting it’s the same triangle also means admitting the obvious outcome of it.

and if I say Will’s feelings for Mike were not used to repair a straight couple (they don’t even talk by the end of the season) but melvin arguing served as a way to repair Mike and Will’s relationship 🤭

“We’re friends. We’re friends” No you’re not. And here’s why.
I know it’s been said already but I still can’t stop thinking about the fact that Mike and Will‘s relationship has been written in a way that it’s closer to love interests rather than friends. And it’s especially visible from their conflicts.
Mike seems able to juggle his relationship with his other best friends and his girlfriend. With Will instead there’s always some kind of conflict that originates from Mike’s inability to keep a good relationship with both Will and El at the same time. When he argues with El his bond with Will grows stronger, when his relationship with El appears to be good, the one with Will weakens. It’s like Will and El’s roles in Mike’s life interfere to the point of being mutually exclusive.
So it’s perfectly normal for Mike to be deeply confused by the incongruence between the “best friend” role Will is supposed to have vs what Will actually means to him.
And it’s really clear during the Rink-O-Mania fight when Will (unknowingly) raises the question Mike has always struggled to respond (“and us?”). Taken aback by Will, Mike quickly confines their confusing relationship in the safe zone of friendship (“we’re friends. we’re friends”). But he’s not reminding Will they’re friends (canonically Mike doesn’t know Will has a crush on him), Mike is telling himself that.
The way this short exchange is written is very reminiscent of the classic romantic trope “we’re JUST friends”. Which more often than not ends up being subverted by the end of the story.
