i survived course registration at my 30k ppl university!!! pays to have a major no one wants to do. next year im taking:

general chemistry 1 (evil-- consists of 5 hour lab, 2 lectures a week, + 1 hour "recitation)

the invention of modern japanese literature (oh i am so ready. excited. may be extremely difficult.)

modern korean history (psyched!)

the irish in america (required freshman seminar, i ended up with the least popular one. will be interesting actually)

pre-med cohort meeting (not like a real class but a thing im forced to go to. lowkey sounds terrible and crazy cutthroat and competitive)

presidential honors scholars biweekly seminars?? idk exactly but it's focused on research and such. they take us on trips throughout nyc though and a free vacation to florence over break so i'm hyped

i graduated high school on thursday. extremely complex emotions. i made so many good friends there, and i think like, overall, i really enjoyed my high school experience and i think i made the most of it socially/academically/etc. i feel sad to leave it all behind.

on one of the last days of school i was walking through the hall and was stopped by the former principal who was visiting my school. we talked for a while about my future and graduation and such, and he shook my hand and told me that when i'm doing such great things in new york city, i must never forget where i came from-- maine, my hometown, my shitty public school. at graduation, a teacher i admire so deeply--my first and only teacher of color i've encountered in all of these years of schooling--gave a beautiful speech about how we've earned our diplomas, but we still owe. our families, our communities. we still owe. i don't think i'll ever forget that. i really do still owe.
