Portrait d’Agnès Sorel (16th century). Anonymous. Oil on panel. Inspired by the Melun Diptych, a two panel oil painting by the French court painter Jean Fouquet (1425-1480) created around 1452.
Sorel (1421–1450), known by the sobriquet Dame de beauté, was a favourite mistress of King Charles VII of France, to whom she bore three daughters .She had a very strong influence on the king, and that, in addition to her extravagant tastes, earned her a number of powerful enemies at court.
