Workshop 4. Nick - Physical Studio: One Page Zine
This is an outcome I have made for Brief 5 using workshop 4, I recreated the zine I made in the original workshop and have applied it to this new brief.
Instead of a cap, I made it about the nike airforce trainers which links to my project as it is about nike. I found this technique/workshop outcome effective as it has given me a professional, eye catching outcome that includes type and illustrations

Workshop 17. Sara - After Effects: Showreel
Within this workshop we created a showreel that included all our workshops from this year. This workshop helped me as I relearnt transitions and tested my memory to see if I could remember how to do them. I also found it interesting to see all my work again and see the different techniques I have seen.

Workshop 13. Nick - Physical Studio: Physical Typography
Within this workshop we split into pairs and created typography from bread. It was interesting not only to come up with ideas to change such a stencil into different shapes but to see other people outcomes as bread isn't a solid, fixed shape there is so much art can be done as it is flexible, such as making crumbs, squishing it, tearing it etc. So it was interesting to see different people s take on it and see how they used their bread and what technique they used as no-one had the same outcome because of there being multiple outcomes and techniques that could be created.

Workshop 15. Jay - Indesign: Stop Motion
Within this workshop we learnt how to create a character using cubes and other tools including the exclude, points and the live selection tools. Overall I found this workshop effective as it wasn't particularly hard to learn the basics of creating a character of some sort.
I found it interesting learning the basic tools as such a small change made such a difference.

Workshop 14. Sara - After Effects: Maps, Stats and Info-Graphics
Within this workshop we created a video for a Football Museum, we got given a location and titles of people, mine were a referee and two linesman, and my location was Primrose Hill, this was all the information we had to go off and the rest was up to us.
I found this workshop slightly challenging when thinking of what to create as we needed graphics to add to this and because we were given the information at the beginning of the lesson it was interesting/hard to think of something to create. I found it interesting because I probably would have created something different if I had the time but I also liked my final outcome as it is straight to the point and it makes it different from Saras previous workshops where we have time before to create the graphics for the following lessons.

Workshop 13. Nick - Physical Studio: Abstract Typography
Within this workshop we created an abstract piece from typography. This reminded me of a similar workshop we did in first year but an inversion as in first year we used an abstract piece of artwork and used it to create type.
I found it interesting trying to see shapes within type as the letters are seen as the minimal object, they are small in the sense that it goes letters, words, sentences, paragraphs etc. so to then try and pick the type apart, was slightly challenging as I felt that all I had was a few not- interpretable shapes, but I am pleased with the outcomes that I created.
Using the black paint and not having to think about the colour was helpful as it meant that I didn't get too swept up in trying to make everything work together and it helped to not see the shape/object that I had made until I saw the end result.
I also found this workshop effective because even though we were using minimalistic type-with not too any shapes- I still had three completely different looking outcomes in the end and even looking at the stencils, the shapes I found are all different in each one.

Workshop 12. Jay - Indesign: Visual Packaging
Within this workshop we learnt how to create and package objects including cans and bottles.I found this workshop slightly challenging hen it came to remembering how to do certain things such as rotating the labels etc as there are such quick and small adjustments that are needed to create such a difference.
The top set of images are my own labels that I have added to the work we did in the workshop using Jay’s graphics (th set of images below). I also found recreating the labels helpful as when I put them into cinema 4D I had to play with the layout which helped me to remember the effects and tools used the workshop, I am very please with my outcomes as they look very sharp and professional.

Workshop11. Sara - After Effects: Z-Space, Layers and Vectors, 3D Project
Within this workshop we used camera to create the illusion that our 2D work was moving and appearing more 3D.
I found this workshop helpful and interesting, especially the learning about the camera and how we can use it to make things move in a more simpler way opposed to moving each individual position, rotation, opacity etc of each layer this was a more faster and simpler way which is why I found this so helpful. In the past I had had to do it the long way round and would use this tool in most o my after effects project as I is a simple tool that creates an effect that I use in most of my after effect videos.
The precomps were good to learn how to use as it helps add texture in such a fast way opposed to creating this effect on the photoshop and/or illustrator.

Workshop 10. Nick - Physical Studio: Graphic Resistance
Within this workshop we picked an object out of a hat and then had to create a stencil (not using our phones to google a cool crisp image that we could copy) We did this by hand using a pencils to draw and a Stanley knife to cut round it, after this we then went and printed it onto paper using acrylic paint and a roller. Then we went and picked a sentence/phrase and repeated the same steps but instead of printing onto a plain piece of paper we overlapped it onto the object we printed earlier. (the image on the far right is the completed piece).
I found this workshop effective as it created a bold look whilst still having texture due to the paint roller and not so clean cut edges. I also liked how we ended up having multiple outcomes, almost like a triptych due to their being to stencils and then the final outcome with the stencils ere printed onto.

Workshop 9. Jay - Indesign: Visual Packaging
This workshop was effective as I learnt useful and helpful tools to create better quality images. There are shortcut tools that aren't necessarily meant to be shortcuts but in the past I would have sued one or more tools to achieve the look that this one tool created.

Workshop8. Sara - After Effects: Stop Motion
Within this workshop we created an effective (glitch looking) video. I found this tutorial effective as I learned new techniques and effects that added to the video, such as creating new textures which added something more to the video rather than just having the initial drawing moving by itself. We did this by drawing around our images and then adding an effect that looked as if the shape was being drawn onto the video which gave it a nice hand drawn element to it as well as emphasising the illustration.
I also liked these effects because by adding these textures and effects I could play around more with the colours rather than it being a black and white video. I found this effective as it added to the object that was being drawn and kind of brought it to life.
After creating the video I also understood the impact of having three separate drawing of the same thing as it added texture and movement (by scanning it in and having marks from the scanner, as well as being able to see the lines and hand drawn elements of the pieces). It is a simple technique that I would like to try and take forward within my other work.

Workshop7. Nick - Physical Studio: Self Annhilation, Death, Resurrection
I personally found this workshop challenging as portraiture (and drawing myself in particular) is something I have never been good at or had interest in trying to take further. Having said this I also found this workshop effective as we created many interesting looks and patterns with a single image.
I particularly enjoyed recreating the image we created when scanning in our faces as I found my outcome effective due to the shapes created when I cut around the shapes/ flow of the image.

Workshop6. Jay - Cinema 4D: Surface/Deformation/Texture
The 2 videos below this post are the final/animated outcomes from this workshop.

Within this workshop we used various ‘parametric systems’ that are used to create ‘randomised surface and textures’.
I found this workshop effective as I learnt how to create a eye catching piece of animation using basic tools. I particularly enjoyed using masks to make different colour ways and textures to add to the surface that created a more unique, aesthetically pleasing outcome. I also liked learning about tools that created a moving, textured surface so easily and all the other tools used to edit this to make it to y liking such as ho big the animations, how fast it moved etc.

Workshop Week: Workshop 4. Visualiser Diarist
Rob Edwards
This was my personal favourite from workshop week as I liked getting back in to the fine arts side of graphic design, using different mediums such as paint, ink, water, collage, pastel, chalk etc. We were told to think about a song, a lyric, the title, a phrase etc. and then to create a visual outcome linking to what you had chosen.
I chose the phrase ‘I Sip’ which is the a song by the music artist Tory Lanez. It is also a repeated lyric within the song. My thought process for this piece was that it was a calm song, had a good beat but it talked about drinking, smoking and basically being in the typical ‘party scene’ too much that he can't think straight.
So I first looked at the colour scheme of black, white and red as I remembered that red was in the cover for the song (on Spotify) as well as it having a dark background. After this I then added some of the lyrics and the title as well as adding the number 18 for a 18 rated movie because the song consists of 18+ things. After this I then added blue as I thought that just having red was too sinister.
After the workshop,
I then went and made it digital and created different colour schemes, tidied it up and added the original type and image from the cover of the song to create a vinyl cover look alike.

Workshop Week: Workshop 3. Interior Design
Sally Dale
I found this workshop quite challenging as scaling and portions are hard for me to get right, But in the end the outcome turned out great. I liked how the workshop challenged me and also showed me a new technique of getting the proportions right. It also taught me that rough sketches aren't something that should be feared as It helped pave the way to create a slick, seamless outcome.
