American movie directed by Chris smith
A movie I only discovered recently but has had one of the biggest impacts on me in resend times is American movie its a documentary it follows mark Borchardt a independent filmmaker as he try's to finish his short film coven and hopefully make a profit big enough to make his dream project. He borrows $5000 from his uncle and money from his family, maxed out credit cards all in the pursuit of his dream. The filming is troubled to say the least. Lack of money, family troubles and cast. At one point mark says fuck, my mum will have to do it and gets her to dress up as an extra in the film but mark never gives up through it all he keeps following his dream. Mark has help from his best friend mike schank a recovering drug addict and alcoholic who is one of the most laid back lovable and naturally funny people I have ever seen in a documentary and in life. At one point in the movie he tells a tale of how he OD'ed and almost died from taking what he thought was LSD then to wake up in the hospital and is only released after weeks and is told he was one of the worst cases the hospital had ever seen. The way mike tells the story without care in the world and a big smile on his face is so funny to me. Talking of funny when I first saw this movie I thought it was a mockumentary, the film is so funny in places and the way mark and mike and everybody talks you would swear it was scripted. But director Chris smith just captured gold take after take. There are parts that are genuinely sad and then you see the hard ship mark is going through to make his dream come true but I see the movie more full of hope. this is one of the most inspiring movies I have ever seen through it all mark never gives up hope on his dream of becoming a film maker and a chasing the American dream I saw the film and thought why cant i follow my dreams of cinema? That's why I'm here now. if your looking for a fun funny and inspiring documentary check out American movie
