For you he tries; Zedd&Madeline
Zedd wished there was more that he could do for Madi. The cyborg understood that Madeline had taken many risks to keep him safe. He sometimes felt what could be labelled as guilt for forcing her into this lifestyle. Life on the run was no life for a girl her age. She’d made plenty of sacrifices for him and all he seemed to be able to do in return was not get them caught. At least he had managed that so far. Despite there having been one or two close calls.
The pair were currently on their way back to where there were staying for the time being from the local market. Madeline carried a single bag of groceries since reality was only one of them received their nourishment from such substances. Zedd simply had to plug himself into an outlet each night and he’d be fully charged in what seemed like no time at all.
Matching Madi’s pace, Zedd fell into stride next to her. He was glancing around from side to side as they walked. Zedd never wanting to miss a thing when to him the world was both a wonder and a strange place. His gaze had been following a flock of birds overhead when a patch of bright yellow flowers caught his eye.
With it not taking long for Zedd to fully charge, there were several hours in the early morning when Madi was still asleep where he had to find a means to entertain himself. Zedd had picked up the habit of watching television if he could during those hours. There was plenty for him to learn in doing so. There had been a movie he had once seen where there had been a scene involving the main male leading picking a bundle of flowers for the woman he was with. Zedd had noted the gesture as being genuine and a way to show those that mattered most that you were thinking of them. Zedd may have not been able to do much for Madi, but this small thing, it was something he could manage.
Veering off to the left suddenly, Zedd walked across the grass, crouching to pick the flowers for Madi once he reached them. He spent a few minutes plucking a handful from the ground, being careful not to bend any of their petals. With a large grin on his face, he made his way back to Madi’s side once he was satisfied with the number of flowers he had.
“These are for you.”
He continued to smile widely. Being blissfully unaware that what he had given her was in fact dandelions. A weed.

Little talks; Zedd&Madeline
Zedd had a lot more thought about the world than any cyborg was programmed to. He’d been designed to function in a particular manner; specializing in child care and it was not that Zedd could not follow out the tasks he was meant to, but rather he performed them better than he should have. Zedd was compassionate. Warm hearted despite the majority of his body being constructed of cold metals. He stopped to smell the roses. He tried to grasp the simple concepts of human mannerisms. He was thinking less and less like a robot and more like a man. Zedd blind to the kind of trouble this could bring to him.
Lying flat on his back, Zedd gazed up at the faded ceiling paint. Madi had taught him that this was what people did when they wanted to do nothing at all. Lying in bed as if the rest of the world didn’t exist. Zedd supposed it was nice, but he never managed to lie in silence for very long. Zedd always seemed to come prepared with an arsenal of questions each day. He was full of curiosity. Constantly on the hunt to more than just learn, but to understand.
“What do you think the purpose of life is Madi?”
For such a heavy question, Zedd asked it so lightly. He turned his head to the side so he could look at the young woman he had raised from childhood. Every other child Zedd had been entrusted with the care of had eventually grown up and moved on with their lives. There had been a point where Zedd had once started to think that he may end up alone. Shipped off to some warehouse in the city to be left to rot to rust. Such a nightmare should not have existed within the mind of cyborg. But with Zedd it had once been very much alive.
Madeline was different though. Even as she continued to age, she did not seem to feel the need to rid him of her company. Zedd still would not have tried to stop her if she did decide she wanted to move on. A mother hen would always be proud to watch their babies fly the coop to bigger and better things. Though Zedd was quite content with the fact that she was still here with him.
“It is different for every one person isn’t it?”
The whole idea of purpose had always intrigued Zedd. For cyborgs their purpose was something that was programmed into a code. It was selected for them. For humans however, Zedd’s understanding was that it varied from one person to the next.
“Do you know what your purpose is?”
For a robot he sure was a curious creation.
