I’m writing my first ISAT fanfic (first fanfic ever actually) and I was wondering if I could get advice on how to characterize the cast? Siffrin and Loop are the easiest so far, but I would like help on the rest of them.

I wrote out a bunch of Isabeau characterization notes in this post. But I will also add on that while he is extremely emotionally intelligent he doesn’t push, which ties into his whole thing of disliking hard conversations and leads to a lot of miscommunication in game. He can see something is wrong but as soon as (typically) Siffrin says they’re fine he’s like “ok! Good” and carries on. There are only a few instances where he insists on having a feelings talk after and that’s when Siffrin is very clearly not okay, but again doesn’t push even tho things could have been cleared up much faster if he had…

He’s also going to play up acting stupid, but he can’t resist those little moments of intelligence (solving the math equation really fast, knowing how the mirror works, and feeling bad that he didn’t know about new advancements in color theory). It’s baked in there whether he likes it or not.

There’s also the knee jerk jealousy responses whenever someone else gets time with Siffrin and him reining it in which possibly speaks to anger or jealousy issues in the past that he knows he needs to work on. But could also speak to his own level of emotional intelligence and realizing that being jealous or overly possessive isn’t cool and will make other people uncomfortable or upset. Which are two emotions he tries very very very hard to avoid inflicting on anyone, often to his own detriment.

Most importantly though is that he is genuinely silly!!! He’s goofy!!! He’s got a lot going on in his inner world but he largely considers his own anxieties or desires unimportant when faced with everything around him and is awkward & nervous when it comes to his own vulnerability. He pretends to be stupid so one expects much of him that way he can’t let anyone down. He has areas he’s confident in but he is also a deeply insecure person, about who he is vs who he was vs who he wants to be, but what’s important about him is that he knows this about himself and is actively working on becoming more and more confident in every part of himself!!!
