"The Good and the Bad: How Social Media Affected Me as a Gen Z Individual"
Generation Z refers to young individuals who are into digital technology and the internet but are not technologically proficient. What distinguishes us, Gen Z, from the Millennials is that our addiction to social media started at an early age. We are the first generation that really makes use of smartphones in accessing social media sites and also on our laptops or desktops. With today's technological advancements, Gen Z youngsters have an edge in having access to tools that make life easier than before. It has helped the lives of individuals in so many ways. One of the things that I like about social media is that I'm able to interact with people from all over the world. It is a primary tool of communication with friends, family, and even people we don't know. People can use social media to educate and share their knowledge about politics or any other important topic. However, despite the good things they bring to us, these platforms have a negative impact on individuals' lives.
The use of social media has had a profound effect on Gen Z individuals. It is an ever-growing phenomenon that really takes a toll on our self-esteem and general mental health. Social media has the ability to influence our minds. It is very addictive, and spending too much time on it can lead to depression, cyberbullying, anxiety, and exposure to inappropriate information. Instagram has been found to damage self-esteem since one could possibly be insecure. Many people suffer from anxiety attacks because the opinions expressed on these platforms matter to them. It affects students with their studies as well as their sleeping cycles, and sometimes they lose focus on what matters the most. False information on social media is also very rampant, and that can lead to misinformation. Gen Z created viral "memes" that have been a part of social media. Certain of the memes created are not true or even insulting enough that they may enrage some individuals, resulting in an online conflict. Social media is a very powerful tool. It would cause great damage if these platforms were used in the wrong way.

“Digital Divide in the New Normal”
As the world is moving into the digital era, the gap between the wealthy and the poor in society increases. A "digital divide" is a term that refers to unequal access to information and connectivity in a world where the majority of the population relies on a computer, laptop, tablet, or similar device. However, many low-income households do not have home internet access or advanced technology, which creates a gap in society. This gap is not just in access to owning computers, laptops, smartphones, and tablets; it is also in knowledge of how to properly make use of these things. It can't be fixed by simply connecting everyone in the world because there are numerous underlying issues that must also be dealt with. These include both socioeconomic obstacles, infrastructure and geographic problems. The existence of internet connectivity will allow an individual to receive the latest trends and modernize research abilities.
The increased movement of labor, education, and services to the online environment is one of the many ways the COVID-19 epidemic has impacted modern life. It is how well-connected people are to the internet and other internet-reliant services such as online banking, social media, and e-commerce. This pandemic has significantly changed the educational system, revealing both old and new difficulties such as the digital divide. Schools are conducting modular and online learning. However, some students struggle to obtain digital gadgets and establish a steady internet connection. Digital reading comprehension is imperative in today’s society. Without knowledge and skills, the country’s gap in socioeconomic status will increase because the skills developed through technology play a large hand in success. The digital divide has a significant impact on people's everyday operations and livelihoods all across the world. The capacity to completely use the internet is causing today's disparities and inequality in several professions.
