Just because you’re young doesn’t mean you can’t have physical problems.
Just because you’re young doesn’t mean you can’t be disabled.
Just because you’re young doesn’t mean you can’t be chronically ill.
It’s not your fault that some people don’t understand, even if these people are close to you, like family or friends.

I don’t know if “spoonie guilt” is an official term, but it should be. Guilt associated with chronic illness sucks so much. I would never judge someone for taking time to work on their health and get a game plan, etc., but myself? Oh, yes, lots of judgment and guilt for not “being productive.” I am being productive, though! Reminding myself that productivity does not exclusively mean making money and being 100% independent is hard.
Internalized ableism is real, y'all.

The pain is so overwhelming and the critical voice in my head is loud.  But my music is louder.

I’m still dumbfounded that this passed the house so easily. We need to keep it from passing the senate!

Sometimes, when you’re chronically ill, you have to do things that seem “selfish.” You can’t do favors for anyone else because you don’t have the energy. You have to take that last seat on the subway instead of leaving it for someone else. You might have to apply for public assistance because you can’t work anymore. You’ll definitely have to ask the people around you for a lot more help than you used to need.
That’s all OK. You shouldn’t feel guilty about any of it. You’re not selfish, you’re sick.

Me: *Makes a funny joke about my chronic illness as a coping mechanism* Ahahaha! I’m one sick bitch!
Someone else: Woah, dude, that sucks. I am so sorry. It must be so hard. :(
Me: Wait, no.

if you dont believe in god thats fine but when extremely horrible things have happened and people are praying for the lost souls of children, it is not the time to speak up. it is not just “stating your opinion” it’s being an asshole

“Imagine having a child that refuses to hug you or even look you in the eyes”
Imagine being shamed, as a child, for not showing affection in a way that is unnatural or even painful for you. Imagine being forced, as a child, to show affection in a way that is unnatural or even painful for you. Imagine being told, as a child, that your ways of expressing affection weren’t good enough. Imagine being taught, as a child, to associate physical affection with pain and coercion.

It’s okay to change yourself in order to heal. It’s uncomfortable to change old habits and coping mechanisms bc they felt safe. It feels weird to change negative thoughts into self love and optimism bc positive ones are harder to believe. The transition can make u feel lost, but you will adapt. It’s worth it in the end, both for your heart and your body.
