As a black girl, you know what would’ve been interesting for the tv series. Louis could’ve still been a slave owner but make him biracial (Jacob is biracial) and we could’ve had conversation about colorism in the black community and upholding oppressive systems because you benefit from it. I feel that would’ve been more interesting imo. Louis would exist in an area where he’d “benefit” for lack of a better term from slavery but also shackled by oppression as well. But Rolin does not know how to write nuanced black characters well so…
You know, from an exterior point of view, because I'm not from US, I saw that it's not just Rolin who isn't able to write something like you suggested, but a lot of people (both black and white) aren't willing to see something like that. Show Louis is treated like a saint even if he's another type of slave owner and he's proud of it, because have brothels and make money off women isn't something so good and the fact he's a black man doesn't make it right, because he's a man profiting off women' bodies. I think I get why they made him proud of his business (something book Louis wasn't, he actually didn't care about his house and this is bad as well because he allowed Lestat to do whatever he pleased) but still I don't like this version because I would have liked to see that as soon as show Louis turned into a vampire he doesn't care anymore about his human life (like in canon) because he has freedom and more agency, something black people at the time hadn't, while he conquered it by turning into a vampire. From being human to being a vampire there is no difference in the show.
And the same goes for women. In books women are free from gender obligations and they can live as equals to male vampires because they are fucking vampires, they can have and do whatever they want. But the show erased this completely, if a woman is a vampire she's still a woman and she can't escape the horrors she could live as human (ex. Claudia being raped by another vampire)
I don't know if my answer makes sense 💀
Ah in addition. Wasn't show Louis' father a plantation owner? I remember they said something like that. So they actually had the possibility to stay in canon, but their Louis willingly decided to open a brothel and being a pimp?
Then isn't it a bit weird to surround show Louis with people who are victims of sex abuse when he had been a pimp? 😬
Imagine if in the book Louis, who has been a slave owner, was surrounded by victims of that kind of slavery

You know what's worse? These artists who create these fanarts won't receive any credit, but I think being able to say that your art was used for something without you receiving any kind of money or credit is enough for this fandom.
Yeah this is what I meant. In the fandom they won't care, but ethically this is sooo bad. I would be so angry 💀 this show is just fanservice and nothing else. It tries to be pleasurable in each aspect and for this reason it's so messy and confusing

Check out this interview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJ_Ocz2b9h0&t=188s They've revealed they're drawing on fanarts to inform their costume choices in the show. So we should expect to see the characters in slutty OOC outfits because they're not intuitive enough to draw on the canon material 🤷♀️ This 100% means they'll be drawing on fanon takes for the plot too. It's going to be a disjointed mess because there's so many polar opposite takes.
This is not just embarrassing but (and I think no one would really get it) is soooo disrespectful. If I, an artist, see something I invented taken and used by a show who profit from my idea and I knew nothing about and get nothing in return, I will be really disappointed.
Maybe there isn't something I could do legally (I think for ff there is something like that), but I would never shut up about it and I will feel so powerless because I would just see someone use my creation for their own gaining.
Then ugh the way Sam add Anne Rice like a second thought, they really forgets about the fact they are adapting her story and not RJ's. Anne Rice would have been soooo against this shit, we know how vocal she was about her disgust towards the QotD movie. This show is not so different from it, at least the movie had a good soundtrack

How is like to live in Rome?
It's a roller-coaster. I love and hate Rome. It's too big so not everything is like the city center, there are a lot of problems, but I can't stop myself to love it each time I lay eyes on some monuments.
Unfortunately we citizens are suffering the overtourism. Our outskirts are getting more expensive and pushing us away even further. Everything costs a lot and is made for tourists and this is getting annoying. People are mad easily because it seems like our place is becoming just an amusement park for tourists and we are like another funny attraction. I see this is something that's happening all around the world from West to East.
I remember when Rome was emptier during the night, you could walk around through city center and have all the place for you. There was this summer of July around maybe 2021 and I was out with my best friend and my cousin. We were just walking by the Colosseo and then then Via dei Fori Imperiali. It was so peaceful and enchanting.
Now the city center is always exploding with people, it seems daytime 😅

The kind of parasocial relationships that occur in this IWTV fandom are a bit worrying, both with the characters and especially for the actors who play these characters, but everyone thinks it's super cool and normal. IWTV stopped being an adaptation a long time ago; now it's just a source to feed the random headcanons people wish Anne Rice had created
I agree.
The way this fandom talks about show actors is weird, most of all if I think this media should be for adults 😬 I really think theirs is an exaggeration because they have to convince themselves the like everything about it

as a devil's minion fan, nothing pisses me off more than show fans cherry picking canon events and mixing it up with their delusion.
They always yap about how "elevated" the show is with Armand and the changes they made or how Daniel being aged up is actually a genius. (nevermind the themes of their story no longer even exist, let alone the personalities they actually had)
They have this strong insistence of trying to tie their bs to canon one moment and then dismissing the things they don't want to deal with. Like, Armand wasn't ever abusive to Daniel. if he was Daniel wanted it, if he didn't it's actually Marius' fault for influencing Armand because Marius is the great evil of all (/sarcasm)
Daniel's time with Marius being good for both of them? Nah, Marius is evil and manipulative. Daniel got better on his own I guess.
Armand loving Marius after everything? eh, he's brainwashed. He's a victim. Oh Look! Armand and Daniel reunite in the rain, that's canon, normal, and healthy. We're keeping that ✨
I wouldn't care so much if they kept their stuff in their corner. But you can no longer search or talk about anything based on the books without some random person jumping in to "correct" you or whining about it
I couldn't care
Oh yes DM is ruined for good in that show.
I think they force themselves to like this new version if DM with oldaniel because, let's be for real, who would like show version over book canon?
DM chapter is so good and a fan favorite because it's like a short horror story, I love it and I love the dynamic Armand and Daniel have. The show ruined it completely and doesn’t have the same meaning it has in the books.
You are talking with a marimand lover so I know well all the comments they make regarding show and book canon and how they mix stuff and then ignore others.
I think the majority of the active fandom both in show and books didn't even read the books but just summeries or let others tell them what those books are about.
The misinformation here is huuuge
See I hate their attitude when they try to correct us book fans, it's evident how they feel superior because they like the show and hate the books and they try to lecture us, because we are in the wrong🙄

This series already doesn't have many female characters, which bothers me as a woman.
Claudia is death but RJ ruined her character, Gabrielle will also be ruined, Jesse, Akasha... any female character who even shows up in this series.
What irritates me is how IWTV is largely consumed by women, and they don't care about the few complex female characters being ruined by RJ; they only care about their MxM ships. It's so strange.
Yeah, TVC is not full of main female characters but if I talk about this I will start a totally different topic of conversation lol
The show won't represent any of those women better or similar to the books. They are useless for the show narrative, they are just a background for men, nothing more.
What I don't like of show fans' attitude is the way they condemn the books, AR and us fans while they like something that has a lot of problems. I wouldn't point this out if they wouldn't throw accusations

Rolin Jones shouldn't be walking around holding TVL like the bible, if he's going to ruin the story and the main characters just because in his head IWTV is "loustat show" or some bullshit about that ship 🙄
Loustat is important in TVC and has been a symbol of the series. What I don't like RJ is doing in the show is the love triangle/quadruple like everything is about this.
In the show "romance" is one dimensional while in the books we have all forms of love, something deeper and interesting.

Rolin Jones did a great disservice by reducing Anne's works to a certain ship and feeding the headcanons of this fandom that has a fetish, a parasocial relationship with a certain vampire couple, this is not an adaptation, it is just a fanfic that Jones believes is doing a great job
Oh yes it is a fanfiction. And it's actually written like one.
Not in this fandom but in another I read a lot of fics that are written exactly like this show and it's not a critic towards fanfic writers, they are good because they are having fun, but it's totally a critic to the show lol
RJ doesn't care about any of the ships he's showing. He cares about his ego and money

the most insidious thing the show has done is how they screw over and disrespected Anne, while pretending their worship her and hypocrite Rolin going around carrying her book, while he's ruining her characters and book messages and creating fan fictions for braindead twilight level shipping fandom. as if his show has anything to do with the books any more. it pisses me off so much. you know how protective Anne was about her books. She's been in process of making this show reality since 2008 and part of the problem was many networks/showrunners giving up on the project but also the fact she was very difficult and INSISTED her books be adapted chronologically starting with vampire lestat, and she insisted the who to be completely faithful to her books and characters. I'm sure AMC originally promised thwart to her estate when they were buying the rights.. than waited until she was dead, and conveniently changed plans and re-wrote the script and did completely different adaptation when she was no longer there to complain. so despicable and the fact Rolin waves her book around makes me want to slap him. also he's so gross in writing female characters and obsessed with rape in general. everyone is either rapist abuser or rape victim in his little world
Yeah same thoughts. (but Twilight has more respect that this show 🤭)
I remember when I discovered about Anne's idea to make a show and which were her ideas. It made totally sense to start with TVL, she knew that in this way narrative would have been more coherent and understandable.
Rolin's behavior disgusts me. He keeps saying TVL was his favorite book he wanted to adapt so bad, so it's not so difficult thinking that he started from IWTV not because it was the first book, but because he wanted to show himself like the right white man who was doing a show for black people and now he's changing completely. The title change seems a way to push aside completely what has been going on in IWTV and if he really does it (we can't know for sure now) I will side totally with original show fans who would be disappointed in this change. I already get their annoyance towards book fans who are now excited for s3 and hated s1 and s2, so if Louis and racism themes on which the show kept making money off for two seasons are disregarded completely just because the show is now The vampire Lestat, I would understand original show fans' possible rage. The show presented itself in a way that to me was clearly fake and it wasn't what I wanted from a TVC adaptation, but it was deceiving the majority of its audience, most of all that audience who didn't know the books and thought the show talked about black vampires, racism and gay men.

everything about Gabrielle is a huge mess, the name GabriellA (what's the importance of being of Italian origin?) the horrible hair/wig the possibility of her being characterized as a groomer, abuser... this show is a joke but what can you expect from Rolin Jones? Of course he would never be able to deal with female characters
Yes like Gabrielle is Italian and ok but it's not that deep her name not being Italian. Even because Italy wasn't a nation at the times, it was a colony with different countries reigning over it.
I think RJ isn't able to deal with minorities. Its portrayals are very elementary and superficial. Something you can find in ff. Everything is so stereotypical and over explained. But yes women had it the wrost

We really don't have anything, just stray frames of Gabrielle and Lestat where she appears to be touching his leg, but the IWTV fandom has already decided that she's touching his d***k.
And Sam Reid's comments saying that Lestat has been hypersexualized since he was young and that this come from largely from his upbringing, so for the fandom, obviously, who could be to blame???? Gabrielle, who hypersexualized Lestat? Gabrielle.
I've already come across someone saying they don't want to see Gabrielle r**"e Lestat like WTF????
I saw the still frames and it seems she is touching his crotch but we don't know the context. Anyway it's still bad even if it's from when she is already a vampire. I'm so against with show decision to put sex like any other show/movie. It's not a fact of purity, I'm totally the opposite, but it's more about the fact that letting vampires have sex humanized the characters too much. And they called it a day with their eroticism when those scenes of erotic have nothing 🤭
Well, now we have people who wants to see GabriellA rape Lestat, people talking and inventing new way with which Marius can rape Armand. I think they have a very specific kink they don't want to admit
Once someone got so angry because I point it out sarcastically how they are a bit too much obsessed with sexual abuse and children 😂 when someone plays their game they get angry

and the most disgusting thing is that this IWTV fandom wants Gabrielle to be seen as a monster, an abuser, they are so excited... weird people, and the majority being women animated by a complex female character being destroyed the vision of a man
See this is what I really hate. Even if the show doesn't portray GabriellA as an abuser and everything has been a misunderstanding, I don't really like how show fans are excited about this new possibile narrative, most of all because Gabrielle has been so loved and important both to women and trans community, but now those show fans wants her to be an abuser and hate her and again they are inventing a lot of nonsense 🤢 this fandom is doomed

And you know what's even more disrespectful? Rolin Jones is doing this shit to Gabrielle because, for him, no character can get in the way of Lestat and Louis' relationship. He wants to ruin all the other characters Lestat loves, interacts with, has a relationship with, to show how, "You see? Lestat only loves Louis, Louis is the only one who truly loves Lestat. All the people in Lestat's life are abusive monsters."
Sir, don't say you're excited for Gabrielle, that she's one of the most important characters of the season, if what you're going to deliver is a completely mischaracterized character and make her an abuser, a groomer—something that was NEVER portrayed as that in the book. God... that even sounds misogynistic.
I really don't know if it's official this insanity with Gabrielle, or better, GabriellA, but anything that man and his writers decide is always a nono to me lol
The show portrayed its women so bad but the enemy weirdly is always Anne Rice, that's telling

I'm so disappointed in how IWTV seems to be going with Gabrielle, look... I would never want something romanticized, but making Gabrielle a child molester? A groomer? And seeing Rolin always open his mouth to say he's super excited for Gabrielle to do this with the character??? It's disrespectful
To me the show has been disrespectful from the start.
This stuff with Gabrielle is even more insane, they even changed completely her appearance, removing her more wild aesthetic and making her more feminine, that we know is something she rejected the majority of the time through the books. I love her character and what she represents and I don't think they will be able to give her even the slightest amount of justice.
Actually it shouldn't bother me too much because I won't watch the season, but due to the fact show fans are unable to separate themselves from us book fandom I can't stop myself to meet their posts and their wrong use of canon that they associate with their show🤷🏻♀️
