One thing I’ve noticed about sasuke: he’s never killed anyone. the only one(s) he’s killed were the ones who corrupted the name of the Uchiha and he also doesn’t kill without a justified reason. That was Itachi and Danzo. When training under Orochimaru, the Sanin commented on him leaving the other curse mark users alive. Sasuke simply replied with “they aren’t worth it” or something along the lines. 

With Danzo, he killed him because of what he made Itachi do. With Itachi it was already foreseen by the elder brother what was going to happen (he is his older brother’s keeper) so, Sasuke, in order to cleanse the Uchiha name he had to take out Itachi and start a blank slate. Sasuke was burdened with the brand of Last Uchiha. Itachi was his  F I R S T  ever legitimate kill. After that, and hearing the  t r u t h  from Tobi, his mind began a downward spiral. 

The more his eye prowess began to grow, the more Sasuke continued losing himself in that power. It had a negative effect on him as all Uchiha state that losing someone close to you has a cost on your welfare. I’m fully aware of the Land of Iron incident but, again, Sasuke was too lost in his own self-loathing, his sorrow, that he needed an outlet. To destroy the Five Kage was his outlet for, to him, it was them who corrupted the Shinobi. If the Five Kage weren’t around then the Uchiha clan wouldn’t have suffered as much as they did in the past and in their own past. 

Now, the samurai, obviously Sasuke did end up killing them but it also wasn’t Sasuke if that makes sense. I’m not trying to say what he did wasn’t wrong but that’s another sin he committed. Another sin he had to atone for by himself --- another reason why he wouldn’t come back to the leaf because he  K N E W  his teammates would fight that order against him. Sasuke’s way of keeping them safe is out of his business. Sasuke  K N O W S  and   R E M E M B E R S  later on in his life what he did, who he’s killed --- he doesn’t need a reminder. He  R E G R E T S when he gets older --- those memories do haunt him but Itachi’s gives him peace of mind. It’s really the only thing that keeps him going.

Facial features were impassive as he stared down the once-familiar face of one who he called a dear friend. Gone was the small, pure, and innocent child --- the ignorant brat was replaced with a cold-hearted and callous boy. Along the left side of his face his curse mark had begun to spread, causing the sclera of his eye to turn from white to pitch black and his obsidian pupil to a rich gold. Sasuke kept his mouth shut as he let her words try to sink in. Orihime’s words were reminiscent to the statements of his former teammate who had begged him to her heart’s content even offering to come along with him. 

He would not allow any feeling of remorse slip past --- he had to do this alone. In the inner depths of his mind, his heart, it was his way of protecting. His sins. . .had nothing to do with his friends. Irritation flickered across his face as he glowered,  ❝ You’re annoying. You all just don’t get it do you ? I’m done. I couldn’t care less what you all think and I’m tired of having to pretend to be someone I’m not. I’m leaving.  ❞

Sasuke had a smart mouth when irritated or when too much time was being wasted. Orochimaru had called for him a while back but somehow this ghost of a shinobi beckoned him --- something about him made him want to fish out just who he really was. Sasuke knew his limitations when he felt another’s presence that exceeded his own prowess and tried his best not to push it.
