Chiconahui Tecpatl

Chiconahui Tecpatl, the Nine of Flints, which corresponds to the Nine of Swords in the standard Tarot, portrays a young man plagued by dark dreams. He is kept awake by dark thoughts, or woken from nightmares that leave him afraid, disquieted, and anxious. His blanket is woven with symbols of Quetzalcoatl, the Lord of Creation, who is also the lord of the wind. These are cut conch shells, which symbolise the wind which can blow you in any direction; which can be the hurricane as well as the gentle breeze. The other symbol on his blanket is a cross, which symbolises the crossroads, and the different directions one can take there. The Nine of Flints symbolises excessive worry, dark thoughts about things which one cannot change. The future will be a gale or a breeze, the crossroads will take you to places and challenges unknown, but worry, fear, and anxiety will not help you on your path. The Chiconahui Tecpatl card councils care of fear and worry, for it can become a prophecy which self fulfils, and suggests that worry, like dreams, can be insubstantial.

Incantation bowl, written in the Mandean language from modern-day Iran and Iraq, 200-600 CE. Incantation bowls were usually buried face down and were used in the hopes of capturing demons or evil spirits. They are fairly frequently found near the front doors of ancient homes or in cemeteries.

It’s finally finished! I’ve been working on this for a week and I’ve loved every second of it. I needed a good excuse to really get the hang of Clip Studio Paint and I wanted to make a big background-heavy piece again. This setting worked perfectly for that.

I recently saw this video by @hewhois and I got instantly inspired. It made me want to draw a modern male witch in his private den. I loved the peace and comfort that the video emitted and I did my very best to create a similar feeling. It’s so difficult to capture a very specific mood, but I hope I succeeded!

To celebrate the start of 2017, I give you the Modern Male Witch Bathroom! I’ve been casually working on this for weeks and I finally finished the animation today.

This is an older version of the flower witch boy I designed a while ago. I thought he would fit nicely in this setting. He is now a plant/crystal/water witch <3
