Just a quick not friendly reminder: someone who has apologized for past mistakes, made amends for past actions, and clearly no longer holds past beliefs, is a far better person than one who digs up old dirt and uses a person's past that no longer exists against them.

speaking of being #autistic, i keep seeing people share articles and posts and such lately about learning to "be yourself" and how that involves having to make active choices for them and how lots of people don't know how to express their interests/personality/etc in ways that would make them happy and need to learn to do so.
obviously those are nice and true things to learn for many people and good on those people for striving to do that lol but it's always a weird thing to read for me because my experience of life has always been the opposite
in that i only ever knew how to very intensely "be myself", actively and loudly, in a way that was at best incredibly off-putting to people and at worst actively made them react to me with hostility and anger. for most of my life i wished there was a way to not be myself somehow. i needed to learn through a lot of trial and error how to suppress myself and my behaviours and my interests and the way my brain works to make strangers and acquaintances more comfortable, in order to live my life with less friction. the exact opposite of the advice above.
and it's just always really weird to get another reminder about how my factory settings are apparently so at odds with the way most people around me work and how so many people experience life incredibly differently. which is of course something i've rationally known for a long time but every different reminder of that i stumble across is still a weird feeling every time. idk. it shouldn't be so alienating because all people are different, diversity of experience, yadda yadda, but after a lifetime of being so alienated and othered by society for the way i think and feel and behave it's just another drop in a bucket that has been overflowing for a very long time.

Genuinely the #1 thing you can do to make sure trans people around you get gendered correctly is to just lead by example. Saying "hi this is [x] she'll be joining us today, could you show her [y]" is 100000x more effective and less scrutinizing pressure than a pronoun circle.

in order to not succumb to sex negative conservatism you have to accept that people will get off to things that are upsetting to you. and you cannot assume anything about what they have or have not experienced, what they do or do not believe, and how they act based solely on what gets them off. even if it's extremely confusing and disturbing to you. there are people who have only ever had heterosexual vanilla sex in missionary with the lights off, who actively contribute to more real world harm than your average fetish artist. kink is not a reliable source of information on someone's moral standing. it just feels good to think that way.

“Why are you so upset about adult content bans? You don’t even post that stuff. can’t you just look at porn somewhere else?”
Well, you see, I have this small problem where my very existence is considered adult content by a small but very powerful group of people and I actually rather enjoy being able to exist in public without restriction so uhhhh put that in your bong and smoke it kiddo.

purity culture ruins people’s ability to engage with works that deal with serious issues and it’s disheartening to see people entirely miss the point of a work because they are guided by a knee jerk reaction towards disgust and I need to ramble
so, I’m reading a book called Jawbone by Monica Ojeda and it’s a very interesting horror novel that centers around puberty and teen girls and their relationships to their mothers. One of the bigger themes in the book is the idea of shame revolving around sexual development. One of the main characters is a young lesbian who is developing feelings for her best friend and has a mother who is incredibly homophobic and disapproving and in part of the book there’s a scene where this character talks about her mother catching her masturbating and the way that she is disgusted by her daughter and kind of this horror around being viewed as having lost your innocence from experiencing something that is common and should be mundane. sexual development is seen as a horrific and sinful action and that causes this character trauma through the rest of the book surrounding the way that her mother looks at her and how her mother is going to react when she finds out that she’s gay it’s a book that deals with a lot of topics around sexual shame. For example, another character is so terrified of the sin of masturbation that she keeps herself from masturbating by imagining being raped by men in her family who she cares about because it disgusts her and keeps her from achieving sexual arousal. the book itself shows that the action of the character masturbating when she’s six years old is an innocent action. It’s one that comes from curiousity and just what happens when you have a body. The book is very clear that the act is being sexualized by the adults around her and their reactions feel violating.
So it is infuriating to then go from reading this book to trying to read reviews of this book and finding that the first review on Goodreads is a one star review that just says “in this book a six-year-old masturbates 🤮” participating in the same disgust with the natural sexual development of young girls that the book itself tries to depict as a horrifying and violating way to view children and puberty

You know, I know it would be mostly useless because you're underwater 99% of the time anyway, but I still would love it if you could fish in Subnautica. Just to catch stuff like peepers, garryfish, holefish, hoverfish, etc.

I've been playing subnautica latelly, and it's such of a nice good vibe chill game that's totally not about shitting bricks

I love seeing list memes where someone makes a "le cool people vs le cringe" and they obviously skew it so they barely scrape by into the cool kids club
