The many famous shirts of CMBYN
I’m sure there are maybe half a dozen tons of people out there who think ‘huh, the main thing about Call Me By Your Name is the shirts, I sure do wish I could see all those Famous Shirts in one place?
@tavrin-callas is the authority on this matter (read this post and this one about Oliver’s shirts) and there’s also this one where @timelosserscmbynobsession talked about it. The point about the purple tank top was made by an anon to @timmytea here.
I present to you:
For the record- the shirt is neither. You, Elio, on the other hand, are (at least partially) both.

“While many people think fanfiction is about inserting sex into texts (like Tolkien’s) where it doesn’t belong, Brancher sees it differently: “I was desperate to read about sex that included great friendship; I was repurposing Tolkien’s text in order to do that. It wasn’t that friendship needed to be sexualized, it was that erotica needed to be … friendship-ized.” Many fanfiction writers write about sex in conjunction with beloved texts and characters not because they think those texts are incomplete, but because they’re looking for stories where sex is profound and meaningful. This is part of what makes fan fiction different from pornography: unlike pornography, fanfic features characters we already care deeply about, and who tend to already have long-standing and complex relationships with each other. It’s a genre of sexual subjectification: the very opposite of objectification. It’s benefits with friendship.”

I rewatched Call me by your name the other day. It really is a film to be watched many times. One of my favourite moments is this look of complete and utter adoration from Elio. Like Oliver is his whole world and like he just want to become part of him, like a limb. Elio is drunk and infatuated and happy and knows this is a fleeting moment. I imagine he’s trying to engrave Oliver in his skull. It’s so beautifully romantic and tragic at the same time.
I hope movie Elio & Oliver can get a moment like this again. In the movie sequel.
