Week 3 Class 1
Every week you’ll be required to produce a new take, a fresh new design comprised of a series of “drawings”.
Plan
Section
Elevation
Perspective
Another type of “drawing” that communicates your design.
For Take #2 we will respond to a really specific aspect of our Mihimihi: Koa, Joy
Discuss: What is “Joy” to you? What are the key elements? What are the spatial qualities? What would be 1 word to best describe?
What is the Site“? What are the key features of the site? What are the spatial qualities of the site? What would be 1 word to best describe the site?
Joy: Happy, Activity, Fun, enthusiasm,Elated, Passionate, Place, Exstatic, People, Things

Week 2 Class 2
Elevation: The drawing of an exterior of the deign as if seen from straight-on. Elevations are like sections, without the cutting plane, so no cake has been sliced yet :/ With a Section you are drawing the space while elevations depict the surface. There is no vanishing point. Images that don’t have perspective, if you measure 1m on the page, other places on that page will have the same measurement because there is no perspective. Elevations have texture, shadow and shading, you are trying to communicate surface qualities.
Perspective: The drawing of a space as if we’re standing within and looking at it. The critical aspect of a successful perspective is that it has a foreground, middle ground and background, ensure all your perspectives have this. Also, we want to be looking from a human point of view (p.o.v.), we’re designing for humans, not superman/birds/clouds/bugs etc. Immersive, inhabitation

Week 2 Class 1
Plan section, Elevation and Perspective. There are certain rules that go along with these types of drawings that make them readable and able to communicate design decisions. In budgeted projects, breaking from convention can result in costly mistakes.
Plans- A plan is a top down view, like a map except that we can see inside the design. To achieve this inside view, a horizontal plane cuts through the “shell” of the design with the top part of the “shell” being hidden from view. Looking from above. Circles with a dot in the middle=convention for a tree Buildings=rectangular When doing a plan you need to cut the walls in half. Depth in plans is shown through line weights. Stairs have an arrow indicating the direction going up. Floor types have different fills. Curves around doors show the way that they open, all doors should open outwards. Cross through the wall indicates something above where the cut line is. Plans con convey a whole bunch of information, it can be very simple or it can have a lot of detail, showing texture, light and shadows extra, more detail. You can add colour.
Section- A section is exactly like a plan except we look straight-on at the design, with the cutting plane being vertical eg; slicing through a cake and seeing all the different layers of icing, cream, jam and chocolate. You can see people in a section. There is no perspective in a section
