The castle dates back to the 13th-16th century. It was built by the Republic of Pisa, to defend its borders during the century-old conflicts with the neighboring city of Firenze (Florence).
Btw, thanks to danissv for pointing this location out of me. But guess what, she got me! I didn’t even have a clue of this spectacular castle. Anyway, have a look at her blog.

What fascinated me even more than the stunning landscapes and architecture of Florence were the people who populated its storied streets. In their dress, their dignity, and the way they carried themselves as they moved through the sun touched avenues. Leather shoes, heels clicking on cobblestone- carefully tailored suits that hid the accents of brightly woven ties. Their smiles held a contagious contentment, one that sits with me still. Some of the most fun I’ve had with candid photography in a long while.
