Support Aisha Dee's career. The Bold Type has never been in a more fragile place in terms of renewal. Who knows what's next. We can and will riot if it's renewed and we notice even shittier material for Kat and/or reduced screen time in retaliation of Aisha speaking out. Hopefully, the writers and producers accept as the call to action she intended it to be and will not be petty about it, if given the opportunity.
Anyway, no matter what, support Aisha Dee.

Aisha Dee on the need for diversity behind the camera, in the writers' room, make up/hair dept, etc. and this highly offensive Kat romantic arc.

look, we give glee so much bullshit bc it turned into over-the-top farcical nonsense but the fact of the matter is that for three days all over social media i have seen hundreds and hundreds of young women talking about how watching santana lopez be out and proud on glee was a formative part of coming to terms with their sexuality. there’s an entire generation of women who watched and who felt comforted by this character and felt as though maybe they, too, could be happy and gay.
santana did that.
naya did that.

IN MEMORY OF NAYA RIVERA
Naya Rivera was a mom, a sister, a daughter. She was an actress, a singer, a writer, a model. She was a latina woman who went through a lot in this life. She was always vocal and open about important issues such as homophobia, racism, toxic relationships, sexism, motherhood, abortion. Her character in Glee was probably one of the most influential and important representations for the LGBTQ+ community and she always talked about how Santana was important for young LGBT people and how proud she was for being able to represent something good. If Santana ever helped you, Naya was so proud of that and of you. She changed lives.
Thank you, Naya. You’ll be remembered and missed.

fan culture and the internet has truly killed so many people’s abilities to feel empathy and have reasonable responses to anything. horrifying news will break or someone will come forward about a traumatic experience and it’ll be turned into a meme or people on twitter will post edits captioned “maybe if they stanned INSERT CELEBRITY NAME HERE instead.” i need you guys to realise that people exist beyond the internet and that people’s lives and experiences don’t deserve to be twisted into some unfunny joke just so you can get some online clout.

We’re all having “hard conversations” about racism, police brutality, and #BlackLivesMatter I hope.
You’ve probably noticed that detractors often use the same “racist talking points” in response. Here’s a researched and sourced guide to help you answer, for the times you may get stuck.
Feel free to save these images and share them!

I posted this a few days ago on Twitter, and it has exploded to a truly unexpected and overwhelming degree, which has led to several days of amazing conversations and someone messaged me here to ask if I would post it on Tumblr, which I probably should have done much earlier except that I always forget I have a Tumblr. Anyway, here it is, though I also encourage anyone with Twitter to go check out the original thread, as the replies have become a goldmine of further research, dialogue and fact-checking.
All the sources I cited in the thread are linked below!

I can’t wait for the producers of 13 rw to get their ass fucking chewed out over killing off Justin. Like they legit had a survivor of abuse and sexual assault, a recovering drug addict and former sex worker finally start to heal and finally get the support he deserves only to have him drop dead from full blown aids. During pride month no less. Can u imagine being this fucking clueless

[[This is Isaiah Hine’s high school presentation on white fragility. You’re not going to get a simpler explanation, in my opinion, so if you’re white you should really read this. Below are Isaiah’s notes on each slide.]]
What is White Fragility?
Robin DiAngelo is a professor at Westfield State University and author of What Does it Mean to Be White? Developing White Racial Literacy.
I’m sure you’ve all seen these ‘defensive moves’ in action before. “I didn’t mean anything by it” “I wasn’t trying to be offensive” “I have a black friend” “Not all white people”
People are often more worried about being called a racist than actually doing something racist. In America white people often don’t even have to consider race. They often think of themselves as “raceless” white is conditioned to be the norm and everyone else is considered “raced” or “colored”. White fragility allows white people to govern when and how race is discussed. White people expect to be educated on racism, and in a nice way.
Why Is It A Bad Thing?
White people never learn as a result and are allowed to continue saying and doing racist things. White people prefer to hear these things from other white people but because other white people don’t know enough about racism, they cycle continues. When people of color do things like the BLACKLIVESMATTER movement, many white peoples responses were “all lives matter” this is white fragility. Proclaiming that black lives matter does not inherently mean that other lives don’t. This statement is made because society continually shows us that black lives don’t matter in america and these are the lives that need the affirming. We already know that white lives matter, it doesn’t need to be stated. White people are very used to being the center of things and when they aren’t it makes them uncomfortable.
Why Does This Happen?
Most people don’t fully grasp the idea of systemic racism and that we live in a racist society that perpetuates racist ideas. We are socialized into white supremacy.
