I'm on page 300 of Mockingjay (progress!) and there would be so much to say, but here's a part I hadn't paid much attention to earlier (happens after the dinner where Peeta appears): "I sit on my bed, trying to stuff information from my Military Tactics books into my head while memories of my nights with Peeta on the train distract me."

Even when Katniss and Peeta are basically at their lowest point when it comes to their relationship, Katniss still can't get those memories out of her head. That is very telling of how much they meant for her emotionally, even physically nothing happened aside from cuddling.

a Hunger Games HC I’ve had for a long time is Katniss taking Peeta’s last name once they get married.

I mean, think about it. Katniss Everdeen was the girl on fire. The symbol of the rebellion. The Victor. Her name is known in every lip in Panem; every child born after the second rebellion will know her name.

But Katniss Mellark is just a woman from District 12. A mother and a wife. A provider. A hunter who has the woods around her home memorized like the back of her hand. She is anonymous. She is singular. She is herself.

And I think Katniss separating her identity from the girl in the arena is something she would definitely do.

He LOVES to make her breakfast. Even on days when he doesn’t need to be up early for the bakery, he’s up making sure she has a delicious breakfast waiting for her.

When she’s pregnant and struggling with food aversions, he goes out of his way to find something she can eat. Basically, Peeta’s love language is food.

He brings her flowers at random, often picked from the meadow.

I’ve seen others post this, but I love the idea of him braiding dough when he’s young in hopes he can one day braid her hair. He’s well practiced by the time his daughter’s hair is long enough to braid.
