Grindcore
Tumblr media
The history of Grindcore started in the late 80’s when Hardcore Punk met the speedy guitar riff of Thrash metal, more so the faster, more violent, destructive bastard brother of Thrash that has sequestered from humanity until Napalm Death brought it to life.
The American scene was definitely being picked up on by the English bands, drawing inspiration from Siege and Repulsion as they were unknown at that time, it felt more like an underground scene where people would be involved in a tape trading circuit since the record labels weren’t interested about it. The demo tapes made it over to England and the style inspired the pioneers and first-wavers Napalm Death and Carcass that eventually made history in the Grindcore scene. The early American bands didn’t make it into vinyl until the English claimed and seized the new grounds, releasing records and attracting the attention.

Napalm Death promoted the passion of giving music the fastest band in the world, with the most aggressive type of vocals, stated by the frontman Barney Greenway. Veering from a 30 second song to an 8 minute long track of gruesome melody, Grindcore in its nature has stripped away all music formats, lyrics structure and any other rules as it’s known for the extreme deranged and chaotic melody buoyed by the metrical asymmetry of the instruments that are easily malleable to cohere into a unified whole. Greenway highlighted on the fact that lyrics about Satanism was a passé matter and is thrown out the window, rather than that, cultivating ideologies about social subjects were peaking the interest of Grindcore’s early rise by its dictators. It could be described as an abundance of sanctimonious revelations, fraught with political protests, overpopulation, genocide and other problems of the world.
Lyrics is the prime of Napalm Death, advocating for left-leaning political views, a weapon that lives for an anti-war statement. the band would never be what it is if it isn’t for their political views and as Greenway states that there is an importance in looking at the world in an ethical and humane way. Amid the chaotic brutality of the music, there is a lingering void of pacifism and altruistic beliefs for human welfare that opposes injustice that is ubiquitous around the globe.
It’s almost impossible to not notice the merciless drum beat, it’s like you’re throwing worms on drums and brutally smack them as fast as a lightening—but always at a—rhythmic pace as it metamorphoses into a steamy gore inflicted catastrophe. As it was known that Napalm Death were truly the first to set ground on Grindcore, Terrorizer were often overshadowed by the well known pioneers, the crusty punks can’t simply be overlooked with the extraordinary masterpiece ‘Fear of Napalm’ from their first album ‘World Downfall’ that was released in ’89.
