India is known for its diversity. People of different religion are living happily here with their cultures. As it is one the biggest country in the world. It has its own history with great symbols of that era in the form of historical and amazing temples mainly in south India and amazing forts at north India. Ancient temples are mainly built in India before 12th century after that Rajputs and mughal emperors came in existence and they built some amazing Forts in India. This forts are so strong and have brilliant architecture that they stand till now proudly even after hundreds of years. So here are some amazing forts in India that you should visit once in a life so that you can experience the amazing history of the great nation with amazing personalities.
1. MEHRANGARH , JODHPUR, RAJASTHAN
Mehrangarh fort is also known as Mehran fort. This fort was built around a year1459. It was built by the ruler of the Mandore called Rao Jodha. He is also known as founder of Jodhpur city. This fort is situated at the present day state of Rajasthan.
It is one the biggest fort in India. It is situated at the height of 410 feet(124 m) above the city. This was built at that much height to protect people from military attacks. Although this fort was built for safety purpose, inside this massive fort, now you can seen many beautiful sights and hotels.
As the sun rays hits the massive and thick walls of the fort it looks very shiny and eye caching and the view from the top of the fort is stunning and it stuns many people. One part of the fort is now converted to the museum so you can also visit to explore more and interesting things.
As it is situated at Rajasthan, the temperature goes all the way to 50 degrees in the the hot summer so you can advised to visit in the winter season(October – march) and try to visit in the morning so you can never miss lovely sunrise from the top of the fort.
2. RED FORT, DELHI
This fort is situated at Delhi, the historic city and the capital of India. As it is capital of the India, Every year on the occasion of independence day of India(15 august) the prime minister of India hoists the tricolor national flag of India at Red fort.
It was constructed by the fifth Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the year 1639.
This fort serves as the main residence of the mughal emperors. This fort was constructed using red sandstones and hence it is named as Red Fort. This massive fort is architecture by the architecture USTAD AHMAD LAHORI. It has four entry points at the each side of the fort. Amazing entrance gate, semi arch arcades and minarets make Red fort a majestic structure in Indian history. As it is in the populated capital Delhi, it experience heavy crowd on the weekends and holidays so try to visit in the working days so you can explore the fort with ease.
3. GWALIOR FORT, MADHYA PRADESH
Madhya Pradesh is situated at the central India and it has some amazing attractions for tourist not only from India but all over the world. Gwalior fort is situated in Gwalior district and this fort has existed since the 10th century. The monuments found in the campus of this fort indicates that it may have existed as early as the beginning of the 6th century. Fort was ruled by almost 110 rulers from the different dynasties. Rani laxmibai also ruled this historic fort. The structure of fort is defensive and it has two main places, Gujari Mahal and Man Mandir, built by Man Singh Tomar (reigned 1486–1516 CE). Gujari Mahal is now an archeological museum.
As you visit Madhya Pradesh, never forget to visit this great historical fort. It is totally worth to visit there. The fort covers an area of 3 square kilometres (1.2 sq mi) and rises 11 metres (36 ft).
4. Jaisalmer Fort, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan
Another Great fort in Rajasthan and one of the biggest fort in India. Jaisalmer fort is also known as Golden fort. It was built in the 12th century. It is living fort that means peoples are living inside it, almost 3000 people are living inside it. Jaisalmer Fort is the second oldest fort in Rajasthan, built in 1156 AD by the ruler Rajput Rawal . As the sun rays hits the massive walls of the fort it shines likes a lot that’s why it is known as golden fort. The walls are made from yellow sandstone and fading to hunny gold during the sunset and sunrise which looks stunning. The fort is 1,500 ft (460 m) long and 750 ft (230 m) wide and is built on a hill. It is raised above 250 feet (76 m) above the city. Inside Jaisalmer Fort, there are 7 Jain temples built by yellow sandstone during 12-16th century.
There are seven massive entrance in the fort are made in such a way that you cannot seen one entrance from another. This is done to confuse the enemy even after they entered inside one of the entrances.
5. Chittorgarh fort , Rajasthan
Cittorgarh fort is the largest fort in India. The great thing about this fort is that it is a UNESCO world heritage site. This was a capital of Mewar and now it is situated at the present day of Chittor, Rajasthan. It is situated at the height of 180 meters and the total area covered by this fort is almost 692 acres. The fort is made by massive yellow sandstone structure. Chittorgarh is situated 244 km away from Ajmer and you can connect via national highway no. 8 from Mumbai to Delhi.
The fort is so massive that its length is 2 km long and 155 meter wide with seven huge gates to enter inside this great place. It is difficult to cover whole area by the tourists in a single day. As it is world heritage site, large number of domestic and foreign tourist came here to see this beautiful and gigantic place made by Rajput rulers.
This fort shows that how good they are those who made this structure. As it is largest fort, it has 84 water bodies in older times and now it has 22 water bodies. Chittorgarh host the biggest Rajput festival in Rajasthan known as “Jauhar Mela” annually.
6. Panhala fort, Kolhapur, Maharashtra
It is situated in Panhala, 20 kilometer northwest from Kolhapur in the state of Maharashtra. Most of the forts at the Maharashtra are associated with the great Maratha warrior “Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj”. It is strategically situated at the hills of Sahayadri mountain range. It was built between 1178 to 1209 year. Now it has been declared as the protected monument by government. Part of the fort is now used as the School, Boys hostel and government office and rest of the fort is permitted for tourists as large number of tourist came here to see this historic and blessed place.
