Why ERP and CRM Integration is Key to Improving Customer Experience

With customers taking an increasingly digitally-driven path to purchase and demanding more personalized customer experiences, smart companies are making solid use of their customer data.
By doing so, they’re tapping into a profitable opportunity: 86 percent of buyers say they’re willing to pay more for a great customer experience.
But too many companies are still scrambling to turn the data they’re collecting into actionable, bottom-line results. Why? Because the data they are collecting too often goes no farther than the IT department that collects it — and that leads to lost opportunities.
Most companies are collecting data through two software platforms that drive customer experience: enterprise resource management, or ERP, and customer relationship management, or CRM. Both contribute directly to how a customer is prospected, spoken to and serviced — ERP to manage and analyze the customer experience, CRM to interface with the customer.
[Read more: How to Modernize Your ERP for a Multi-Cloud World]
The data these platforms collect should contribute to a company’s marketing, sales and customer service teams — a task made infinitely easier when the two platforms are integrated.
By integrating them and making the information available to the right departments, companies can elevate their customer experience and impact the bottom line. When done properly CRM and ERP integration act as a multiplier, stimulating new growth and conversions.
The benefits of ERP and CRM integration
Full visibility: ERP and CRM integration provides a better customer experience by enabling support, account and sales representatives to have full visibility into the customer. Without it, customer data can get fragmented or separated. With it, front and back office can operate at a higher level with no lags or gaps in information. And that leads to…
Better customer service: integration can then improve inter-departmental collaboration, for more accurate and better service to the customer. Giving employees a 360-degree view of the customer enables successful interactions such as:
· Sales teams closing more deals as a result of being able to view buying history.
· Companies producing invoices and collecting payment more quickly, as existing and new orders are synced without the need for manual data entry.
· Time and labor savings as a result of more automated workflows that produce clean and reliable data.
· Customer service teams can address changes or problems with service and proactively reach out to customers impacted by logistical delays and problems.
Identify signals of poor customer experience: ERP and CRM systems provide alerts in different ways, but each plays a key role in flagging problem areas for business development and customer experience.
· ERP systems can flag issues that prevent a good customer experience as it relates to fulfillment, processing and anything “behind the scenes.”
· CRM platforms can showcase the human interaction, including experiences with sales team members, customer service representatives and other interpersonal exchanges.
The “red flags” that each system is able to spot can help solve and prevent issues that contribute to a negative customer experience across the buyer’s journey. Collectively, they ensure that customers are satisfied in all ways throughout the lead nurture and conversion processes.
Share data, not permissions: ERP data is valuable, which is why departments want access to it. But giving too much access to an intricate system can be an invitation for trouble. By integrating ERP and CRM systems, ERP data can be provided to team members across your company, without sharing closely held permissions — and that benefits everyone.
Reduce overhead: ERP and CRM integration reduces the need for additional or separate employee training per system, while reducing the potential burden for your busy IT team. Though adoption may take time and consistency, the long-term advantage comes in the form of employees who are more adequately equipped to gather and analyze customer data for their own needs. Team members can devote more time to a “singular piece of software” and become well-versed in implementing technology to create a better experience.
The challenges of ERP and CRM integration
While the benefits are undeniable, it can be a challenging process. Keep these issues in mind when undertaking an integration:
Measure twice, cut once: Assessing your needs, challenges and desired business outcomes is crucial to a successful integration. Yet there is often a disconnect between what IT professionals think will work the best for their stakeholders versus what truly works for their end-users. Consider using an outside team with technology integration experience to assess the needs of your stakeholders and end users, the desired outcomes for your business and the capabilities of your internal IT team.
Commit the necessary time and resources: Lean IT teams can struggle, both finding the right expertise and carving out the necessary time to devote to this important project. Buy-in from the top ensures that time and resources are allocated to focus on the integration; an experienced partner means internal IT teams won’t be sidetracked by other responsibilities. A third-party partner will also help develop a realistic timeline for your integration.
Find the right partner
If your organization is ready to integrate your current ERP with a suitable CRM platform, consider partnering with Rackspace. We employ a “Process First. Technology Second.®” strategy that starts by assessing your business goals. Only then do we identify which technologies will deliver on those goals. Because we’re vendor-agnostic, we focus on finding the best technology solutions to help your business thrive. Our teams of ERP and CRM experts can also manage and optimize your systems, ensuring you continue to get the most out of your investment.

Definition Linux Cloud Server
Over the years, there has been a lot of mixed information as to what Linux cloud servers actually mean. This article aims to clear the air once and for all with a concise explanation while providing you with a list of Linux cloud server resources from which you can investigate for yourselves.
Yes, the term “Linux cloud server” may seem silly, as it should be defined as a group of servers working together for a common purpose. But the fact is that most people are not aware of this. Therefore this article was written to provide a more accurate outline of what “the cloud” actually is.
What is Linux Cloud Storage?
The term “putting something into the cloud” often confuses people. I’ve seen the definition of cloud hosting evolve into whatever one’s marketing department happens to want it to mean. But at its simplest, storing something in the cloud means you’re storing data on a computer that is not locally available. Okay, cloud computing is actually a bit more complex than that.
In truth, storing data on the cloud means at least one or two of the following are part of the server solution:
Cloud Storage is best suited towards anyone needing off-site storage for their data.
Your stored data is stored at a location not local to you. This could be across the street or on the other side of the globe.
The server instance you’re using to store your data is flexible and scalable. This means that with very little effort, an administrator can remotely resize the storage capacity of a cloud hosting server. Additionally, increasing the cloud host’s processing power is also an option made readily available despite being in a remote location.
You only pay for what you use. This might mean your cloud hosting service is billed to you only for the time it was used. This service period usually ranges from hourly to monthly pricing.
Usually, cloud hosting providers offer you far greater reliability and physical data security. This translates to your data being spread out across multiple servers instead of being tied to a single server environment. This storage approach is called logical storage pools and can sometimes span beyond a single physical location.
Linux Operating System Operating systems are employed on various devices ranging from large computers to small mobile devices. Among various operating systems depending the task for which it is employed one of the best known operating system known for its best speed and high performance is Linux and known well as Linux cloud server. Dedicated cloud servers using Linux operating are on boom these as they provide the best option to tackle with the high web traffic offering high performance.

Ex plane Cloud Server
A cloud server is a virtual server (rather than a physical server) running in a cloud computing environment. It is built, hosted and delivered via a cloud computing platform via the internet, and can be accessed remotely. They are also known as virtual servers. Cloud servers have all the software they require to run and can function as independent units.
What is the cloud?
The cloud is commonly used to refer to several servers connected to the internet that can be leased as part of a software or application service. Cloud-based services can include web hosting, data hosting and sharing, and software or application use.
‘The cloud’ can also refer to cloud computing, where several servers are linked together to share the load. This means that instead of using one single powerful machine, complex processes can be distributed across multiple smaller computers.
One of the advantages of cloud storage is that there are many distributed resources acting as one – often called federated storage clouds. This makes the cloud very tolerant of faults, due to the distribution of data. Use of the cloud tends to reduce the creation of different versions of files, due to shared access to documents, files and data.
What are the benefits of a cloud server?
A cloud server gives the business user stability and security because any software problems are isolated from your environment. Other cloud servers won’t impact on your cloud server and vice versa. If another user overloads their cloud server, this will have no impact on your cloud server, unlike with physical servers.
Cloud servers are stable, fast and secure. They avoid the hardware issues seen with physical servers, and they are likely to be the most stable option for businesses wanting to keep their IT budget down.
Cloud servers provide a faster service for your money. You’ll get more resources and a faster service than you would for a similar price of physical server. A cloud-hosted website will run faster.
You get scalability with cloud servers. It is very easy and quick to upgrade by adding memory and disk space, as well as being more affordable.

Definition of Cloud Server
A cloud server is a hosted, and typically virtual, compute server that is accessed by users over a network. Cloud servers are intended to provide the same functions, support the same operating systems (OSes) and applications, and offer performance characteristics similar to traditional physical servers that run in a local data center. Cloud servers are often referred to as virtual servers, virtual private servers or virtual platforms.
Cloud server types and features
An enterprise can choose from several types of cloud servers. Three primary models include:
Public cloud servers: The most common expression of a cloud server is a virtual machine(VM) — or compute “instance” — that a public cloud provider hosts on its own infrastructure, and delivers to users across the internet using a web-based interface or console. This model is broadly known as infrastructure as a service (IaaS). Common examples of cloud servers include Amazon Elastic ComputeCloud instances, Azure instances and Google Compute Engine instances.
Private cloud servers: A cloud server may also be a compute instance within an on-premises private cloud. In this case, an enterprise delivers the cloud server to internal users across a local area network, and, in some cases, also to external users across the internet. The primary difference between a hosted public cloud server and a private cloud server is that the latter exists within an organization’s own infrastructure, where a public cloud server is owned and operated outside of the organization.
Dedicated cloud servers: In addition to virtual cloud servers, cloud providers can also supply physical cloud servers, also known as bare-metal servers, which essentially dedicate a cloud provider’s physical server to a user. These dedicated cloud servers – also called dedicated instances — are typically used when an organization must deploy a custom virtualization layer, or mitigate the performance and security concerns that often accompany a multi-tenant cloud server.
Cloud servers are available in a wide array of compute options, with varying amounts of processors and memory resources. This enables a user to select an instance type that best fits the needs of a specific workload. For example, a smaller Amazon EC2 instance might offer one virtual CPU and 2 GB of memory, while a larger Amazon EC2 instance provides 96 virtual CPUs and 384 GB of memory. In addition, it is possible to find cloud server instances that are tailored to unique workload requirements, such as compute-optimized instances that include more processors relative to the amount of memory.
While it’s common for traditional physical servers to include some storage, most public cloud servers do not include storage resources. Instead, cloud providers typically offer storage as a separate cloud service, such as Amazon Simple StorageService and Google Cloud Storage. A user provisions and associates storage instances with cloud servers to hold content, such as VM images and application data.
Benefits and drawbacks of cloud servers
The choice to use a cloud server will depend on the needs of the organization and its specific application and workload requirements. Some potential benefits and drawbacks include:
Ease of use: One of the biggest benefits of cloud servers is that a user can provision them in a matter of minutes. With a public cloud server, an organization does not need to worry about server installation, maintenance or other tasks that come with ownership of a physical server.
Globalization: Public cloud servers can “globalize” workloads. With a traditional centralized data center, users can still access workloads globally, but network latency and disruptions can reduce performance for geographically distant users. By hosting duplicate instances of a workload in different global regions, users can benefit from faster and often more reliable access.
Cost: Public cloud servers follow a pay-as-you-go pricing model. Compared to a traditional physical server, this can save an organization money, particularly for workloads that only need to run temporarily or are used infrequently. Cloud servers are often used in such temporary use cases, such as software development and testing, as well as where high scalability is important. However, depending on the amount of use, the long-term and full-time cost of cloud servers can become more expensive than owning the server outright. In addition, regulatory obligations and corporate governance standards may prohibit organizations from using cloud servers and storing data in different geographic regions.
Performance: Because cloud severs are typically multi-tenant environments, and a user has no direct control over those servers’ physical location, a VM may be adversely impacted by excessive storage or network demands of other cloud servers on the same hardware. This is often referred to as the “noisy neighbor” issue. Dedicated or bare-metal cloud servers can help a user avoid this problem.
Outages and resilience: Cloud servers are subject to periodic and unpredictable service outages, usually due to a fault within the provider’s environment or an unexpected network disruption. For this reason, and because a user has no control over a cloud provider’s infrastructure, some organizations choose to keep mission-critical workloads within their local data center rather than the public cloud. Also, there is no inherent high availability or redundancy in public clouds. Users that require greater availability for a workload must deliberately architect that availability into the workload.
Cloud Servers offer better reliability | Cloud Firm
Cloud servers can basically be referred to as Cloud Servers which run on a cloud computing environment. These servers do not require to be placed in the same data center; in fact these can be positioned at several isolated Data Centers. There are several benefits that you can have when you go for cloud server. Once you opt for a Cloud Servers or a cloud solution you get computing power of several connected servers. A cloud server provides it users with complete advantages of a dedicated server, but at very affordable prices. Another benefit of cloud services is that they can be upgraded and scaled down without any major fuss. Cloud Servers also provide a complete backup of the services; means, even if one server goes down your website will still continue to operate fully on other servers. Cloud Firm is among the largest cloud service providers in India. The company offers cloud services on windows 2003 & 2008, Red Hat Linux and Cent operating systems. Cloud Firm backs its cloud solutions with 24/7 online support, up to 99.9% uptime guarantee and full administrative rights among others.

Distributed monitoring for global cloud infrastructure

Managing a large global infrastructure with high availability to provide 100% SLA requires the ability to stay on top of arising issues. Even with the advanced n+1 redundancy throughout the systems, problems need to be detected immediately and resolved quickly. For this purpose, we maintain a network of server monitoring across our data centres employing Zabbix.
With the number of new host deployments growing quickly, we needed to rethink our approach to monitoring it all. As such, we recently built an entirely new monitoring network based on the active agent-server model.
Masters of monitoring
Zabbix is a state of the art open source infrastructure monitoring software that we have utilised for a long time. It’s designed for real-time monitoring of millions of metrics collected from tens of thousands of servers, virtual machines and network devices.
Capable of detect problem states within the incoming metric flow automatically Zabbix requires no need to peer at incoming metrics continuously. In addition, Zabbix boasts highly flexible definition options, root cause analysis, anomaly detection and trend prediction. It can separate problem conditions and resolution conditions while operating on multiple severity levels.
Our previous system
With history from over half a decade, we’ve certainly seen our fair share of changes. From the introduction of our signature storage technology MaxIOPS to the new but already familiar feeling design language, we are no strangers to upgrades and improvements!
Our old monitoring network comprised of monitoring servers that periodically requested a live response from all other hosts in our infrastructure. The passive monitoring model was true and tested and had served us nicely so far. But alas, even with all its features, it was time for an upgrade.
Distributed monitoring network
One of the main goals of the big revamp was to be able to scale effortlessly as our infrastructure grows. Implementing the new Zabbix installation introduced a number of improvements as well as challenges while it tirelessly watches over our network. So for redundancy, the new system was developed in parallel to the old one to ensure reliability. Running both monitoring systems side by side will also allow us to compare the two as we work to improve our early issue detection.
As mentioned, our new Zabbix network is set up using active monitoring model built on three main components:
Agents
Each monitored node will have a lightweight Zabbix Agent installed on it. On the first bootup, the agent contacts a proxy which checks against known nodes and instructs the agent on a list of active checks based on auto registration rules. Once configured, the agent actively sends the results of the requested check periodically to the proxy. Thanks to the agent’s small footprint, it can easily be run without impact on system resources.
Proxies
Due to the highly distributed nature of our data centres, we’ve opted to include proxy servers at each of our zones. All endpoints are actively reporting their monitoring data to their local proxy which then relays the information to the Zabbix servers.
Zabbix proxies collect monitoring data from the monitored devices and send the information to the Zabbix server, essentially working on behalf of the server. All collected data is buffered locally and then transferred to the Zabbix server the proxy belongs to. This allows proxies to retain data for example while a monitoring server is under maintenance and in practice monitor the server itself.
Running proxies at each DC has been very beneficial to distribute the load of the Zabbix servers. On top of the added redundancies, the resource requirements on the monitoring servers are also reduced. It’s the ideal solution for cloud infrastructure monitoring in remote locations without local administrators.
Servers
While much of the monitoring is performed autonomously throughout our infrastructure, the human aspect is still location bound. The monitoring servers work as the brain of the operation by gathering the data and presents it in an easily readable format. In addition to visual alerts in the system, Zabbix also informs the responsible personnel about occurred events using other different channels such as a trusty old SMS.
The automation of a new node registration is partly offloaded to the proxies but Zabbix server still needs to become aware of the additions as well. Depending on the intended use of each new node, Zabbix applies the correct template and includes the node to the correct host groups for monitoring. Strong encryption between all Zabbix components ensures secure communication to all of our ~150 000 followed items with almost 20 000 triggers.
System summary
The new and improved monitoring system is already showing its benefits with automated registration. Furthermore, with our aim to continually grow, not only in our current data centres but by expanding to new regions as well, Zabbix will enable us to effortlessly scale up our monitoring in the future.

How to Managed Cloud?

To manage their money, they open an online brokerage account and spend time researching investments and portfolio theory. To maintain their cars, they change their own fluids and filters and tires, and devote hours to reading manuals and ordering parts.
But investment vehicles and motor vehicles alike get increasingly complex. At some point, most busy, successful people — and busy, successful businesses — find it wise to focus on what they do best and let specialists do the rest. That’s a big part of the appeal of managed cloud.
What is a managed cloud service?
Managed cloud services allow businesses to tap into the power of cloud computing without the pain of becoming an expert in everything. It starts with the simple truth that every cloud has to be managed by someone. Like your retirement savings or your car, it doesn’t manage or maintain itself. So every business faces two main options:
DIY: It can hire and train experts to perform all the complex tasks required to manage cloud infrastructure and tools and application stacks. Or it can manage and mediate among multiple providers: say, one for multi-tenant cloud infrastructure and a second for single-tenant servers or VMware in a colocation facility, and a third for support.
or
Employ a trusted partner: This allows companies to focus on their core business — on building great applications and other new products, and landing new customers. They can stay fast and lean, rather than having to swell payroll with additional ops engineers and system administrators and other experts to manage IT that doesn’t differentiate their company.
What is a managed cloud services provider?
Managed cloud allows each customer to choose which IT functions it wishes to manage in-house, while leaving all the rest to its service provider. Managed cloud services can include infrastructure and application level support.
A managed cloud services provider like Rackspace offers its customers big economies of expertise. The provider’s engineers manage not only the customers’ computing, storage, networks, and operating systems, but also the complex tools and application stacks that run on top of that infrastructure. These include the latest databases and ecommerce platforms, as well as DevOps automation tools.
Managed cloud services include, at the infrastructure level:
Architecture guidance
System administration and operations (Ops)
System monitoring, alerting, and reporting
Performance testing and tuning
Proactive communications and 24×7 support
A single point of contact for support
DNS management
Security and compliance management
Backup and disaster recovery
Database administration
Developer support and training
At the application and tools level, managed cloud services include:
DevOps automation tools: Chef, Puppet, Salt, Ansible, LogStash, etc.
Application deployment, scaling and lifecycle management
Specialized database management: MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Hadoop, etc.
Managed virtualization on VMware vCloud.
Management of Microsoft apps: SharePoint, Exchange email, Lync, etc.
OpenStack Private Cloud deployment and management.
Ecommerce and digital experience platform management: Sitecore, Oracle ATG, Hybris, Adobe Experience Manager, Drupal, WordPress, etc.
Unmanaged cloud vs multi-cloud providers vs outsourced IT service providers
One good way to frame managed cloud is to describe the major alternatives to it:
Unmanaged cloud: Here, the customer rents access to infrastructure — often from Amazon, Google, or Microsoft — and takes on all the burden of managing that infrastructure, as well as all the tools and apps that run on top of it. Customers who choose this option often get lower infrastructure prices than they would get from a managed cloud provider — but a higher total cost for hiring more engineers, supervising those engineers, and over-provisioning to avoid contention for resources on multi-tenant infrastructure.
Multiple cloud providers: Some customers rent cheap infrastructure from one or more providers and then hire one or more providers to support that infrastructure. This option can deliver savings on infrastructure unit costs, but those are usually offset by higher support costs. Multi-provider arrangements often prove difficult for the customer to manage, with fragmented systems, no clear accountability for results and no single “throat to choke.”
Outsourced IT service providers: The largest enterprises sometimes outsource all or most of their IT operations to a big systems-integrator like IBM, HP, or DXC. These arrangements allow the customer to focus on its core business, but are very expensive. Big outsourcers also tend to move slowly. It can take weeks to update a part of the customer’s configuration. More enterprises, and the developers who are pushing innovation within those companies, are finding that they can move more quickly and cost-efficiently by shifting new applications away from IT outsourcing and toward nimbler, less-expensive managed cloud providers.
Next gen vs traditional managed service providers
As enterprises seek to accelerate cloud adoption to realize the flexibility, agility and cost savings of the cloud, their needs evolve. Traditional managed service providers are unable to keep pace with the rapidly growing cloud ecosystem and shifting customer needs, leading to the evolution of next generation cloud service providers. They go well beyond offering traditional managed services, like migrations and day-to-day support, by delivering expert cloud guidance, customizable services, and multi-cloud technologies.
As the industrys leading next gen cloud service provider, Cloud Firm serves as an unbiased, objective and experienced cloud partner for organizations around the globe, while working closely with customers to understand unique cloud requirements and challenges. As business needs change, Cloud Firm capabilities grow and evolve to help guide and support customers throughout the entire cloud lifecycle.
Cloud Firm next generation cloud services now provide flexible and highly customizable offers through Cloud Firm Service Blocks, Managed Infrastructure as Code (IaC) deployments, and expanded multi-cloud capabilities to help customers choose between cloud platforms and provide the ability to manage multiple public clouds with a single control panel.

Your most Favorite runtimes, presently for the most part accessible on Cloud Functions
When we ask engineers for what reason they pick Cloud Functions, "straightforwardness" comes up a great deal: compose a couple of lines of code, convey and… voilà! You have a serverless, auto-scaling, pay-per-use work running on Google Cloud.
A major piece of that effortlessness originates from having the capacity to compose Cloud Functions in your preferred programming language. That is for what reason we're amped up for our ongoing language bolster declarations at Google Cloud Next '19:
In the course of recent months, we've addressed many set up and best in class clients who have utilized these runtimes to expand on Cloud Functions. One client, infarm, utilizes Cloud Functions and Python 3 to help its dispersed system of proficient vertical homesteads:
The occasion driven interface was a particularly solid match for our cautioning stack, taking in more than 2.6 million plant-and homestead related estimations every day to keep our harvests from being influenced by potential occurrences. We depend on Google's checking and cautioning abilities to screen 400+ homesteads crosswise over Europe. - Nicolas Delaby, Lead Engineer, infarm
By settling on server less on Google Cloud, infarm can concentrate on its central goal: to enable urban communities to create independent nourishment generation while improving horticultural security, quality, and bringing down their natural impression. Notice how that mission does exclude "dealing with my server foundation" or "adapting new programming dialects"?
Use Cloud Functions to process IoT information
Python and information handling go connected at the hip. A typical compositional example that we've seen among clients that utilization IoT gadgets is to have every gadget drive sensor readings to a message transport. For instance, one of infarm's secluded homesteads may have different IoT gadgets, each sending sensor information as messages to a Cloud Pub/Sub subject. At the point when a message is conveyed to the theme, it triggers a capacity, which plays out an undertaking. That assignment can be as basic as diverting messages to a determined datastore like Cloud SQL, to improving information before embeddings it in BigQuery, to performing complex handling.
Cloud Functions is an incredible decision for single reason, rehashed information preparing use cases. Since Cloud Functions scales naturally dependent on burden, it's likewise a solid match for a venture that will keep on developing into what's to come. As infarm includes new IoT gadgets, Cloud Functions scales up to meet that expanded burden.
A universe of Python bundles
Cloud Functions bolsters Python's rich biological system of bundles, which opens an immense assortment of utilization cases. The Cloud Functions Python 3.7 runtime utilizes the open-source Python conveyance so you can without much of a stretch add bundles to your Cloud Functions utilizing 'pip'. These conditions are introduced naturally when you convey your capacity. Clients utilize this usefulness to get to Google Cloud APIs from Cloud Functions utilizing the informal 'google-cloud-python' bundle. Others are utilizing bundles like NumPy and SciPy to make information preparing pipelines.
Attempt Python 3.7 on Cloud Functions today
You don't should be on a visionary mission to reevaluate nourishment generation to begin composing capacities with Python 3.7 today—look at the docs to begin.

How to Cloud Enhances Your Dedicated Server

Now more than ever, businesses need flexibility for their services.
What happens when you have outgrown Virtual Private Servers (VPS)? What do you do when you need the scalability of the cloud and also the resources of a physical, dedicated server?
If you need hosting for:
Resource-hungry websites & applications
Multiple websites of all kinds
Databases with or without the webserver on the same server
Reselling hosting to clients
Cloud firm Cloud Dedicated Servers provide a great solution worth considering. It is important for websites, applications, and platforms to be able to scale and have their hosting environments grow with them. Cloud services can do that, and more.
But what exactly is cloud?
What is Cloud?
Last July, we told you about our Cloud VPS and how it works. Recall that cloud computing is the practice of using a network of remote servers hosted on the Internet to store, manage, and process data. With this as the foundation, we are able to build and use other technologies to offer sophisticated solutions like the Cloud VPS.
A VPS is a server that exists as a piece of software running on a host or parent server. A hypervisor is used to manage these virtual servers. These virtual servers are clustered together under Liquid Web’s Cloud Platform, offering the ability to move server instances between parent servers without needing to migrate data or reconfigure the server settings.
What is a Traditional Dedicated Server?
By contrast, a traditional Dedicated Server takes the cloud out of the equation and gives you the bare metal server. Your server environment is run directly off of the hardware with the operating system and all files directly installed on the server. These servers provide customization that is attractive to most businesses because you are dealing with swappable internals.
Dedicated servers are single-tenant hosting services. Unlike with a VPS, there is no parent server dividing server instances. All components of the server, such as the CPU, cores, RAM, and storage are at the disposal of the tenant, which gives the owner reliability, performance, and security.
How the Cloud Enhances a Dedicated Server
The implementation for Cloud Dedicated Servers is similar to our Cloud VPS. Liquid Web’s proprietary Cloud Platform, based on KVM, is what drives the virtualization. It allows the servers to have dynamic provisioning in a scalable, virtual environment. But instead of sharing the processor with other instances, you have the full use of the CPU and its cores.
Think of Cloud Dedicated as an actual dedicated server with a virtual layer running on top.
Cloud Dedicated combines the processing power and resources of a traditional dedicated server with the instant provisioning and flexibility of the cloud. Bare metal cloud servers deliver the complete hardware transparency and scalability websites and applications demand.
One potential drawback to traditional dedicated servers is that moving to a new server involves migrating data. This can be a time-consuming process depending on the project(s) hosted on the server and the time it takes to migrate the data, test the data, and point the DNS. And with DNS propagation, your sites and apps can also see downtime.
Cloud Dedicated Servers make this process seamless. Like the VPS, you are able to resize the bare metal server instance from one to the other without having to migrate data or change server settings. Aside from a couple of server reboots, there is not much downtime as there are no DNS changes to speak of. While it is not an instant process, you are still able to scale faster than with a full-on data migration.
Use Cases for Cloud Dedicated
Cloud dedicated can be useful in a myriad of circumstances and setups, such as with database hosting, hosting multiple sites, cloud private networking and more.
Database Hosting
As mentioned previously, the resources of the host server are at your disposal because your server environment is the only one on the parent server. The full CPU and all cores are dedicated to your sites and databases.
The importance of having this kind of power is valuable to those that host resource intensive databases. Databases require the kind of single-threaded CPU performance per core that is found in a dedicated server. Adding our cloud platform only enhances this by giving you the ability to resize your server to another instance with a different CPU or other resources as your business grows.
Hosting Multiple Sites
Just as in the case with databases, Cloud Dedicated Servers act as an excellent choice for agencies and resellers that require hosting for several sites on the same server. The processing power would be more than capable of running your sites and handling their requests. And because resizing does not require a data migration, you can rest assured that all of the hard work put into setting up the sites and server settings will remain intact.
Cloud Private Networking
Need more than one server with the ability to communicate with each other? No problem! You can deploy a Cloud Private Network for your cloud servers to communicate with each other over an internal, isolated private network.
The bandwidth used on the closed system is free and does not count against your regular bandwidth usage, and there is no additional cost.
Cloud Firewall
The Cloud Firewall provides you with the protection and security isolation that a conventional hardware firewall would give to your dedicated server. You are given two options. The first is the Basic Firewall, which lets you allow or deny common web services with a simple checkbox interface. If you need more detailed rules the second option, our Advanced Firewall will enable you to specify services and ports as well as source and destination IPs for fine-grained tuning of firewall rules.
Cloud Load Balancing
More functionality exists for those that have a high load on their servers as a result of increased traffic. Liquid Web’s Cloud Load Balancer allows users to create Virtual IP addresses (VIPs) and intelligently distribute traffic across multiple cloud servers. Your site visitors can be shared across numerous devices to increase performance during times of high activity.
The Cloud Server Load Balancer can significantly increase the reliability of your web application because if one of your server nodes fails, the traffic is automatically shifted to another server node without any interruption of service.
Choosing a Cloud Dedicated Server
Having several options to choose from can make the final step of selecting the right server(s) a bit challenging. Here are some of the options you have as well as some things to consider when choosing a Cloud Dedicated Server.
What is My Budget?
In other words, how much are you able and willing to pay for hosting? Quite often, the cheapest solution is not the best solution.
Do your research to ensure the amount of service you will receive is reasonable for the cost
Think about current resources needed as well as future resources that may be required to expand your business
Do I Need a Specific Server Location?
It’s important to think about where your visitors are located relative to the geographic location of your server. While this can be alleviated by the use of a Content Delivery Network (CDN), you can also cut cost if your visitors are in the same concentrated area as your server. Knowing where your server is located will help determine if other services will be needed.
Liquid Web offers 2 data centers in Lansing, MI (Central US), one in Phoenix, AZ (Western US) and another in Amsterdam, The Netherlands (Europe) to serve the needs of our clients globally.
What Are My Security Needs?
Securing your server is paramount to ensuring your site and data remain protected. The extent of that security needs to be determined based on the amount of risk you plan to take versus the risk that your hosting provider will assume.
Knowing what you need and what your potential provider offers will save you headaches down the road.
Who will be Managing the Server?
Knowing who will be managing your server and the degree of management they provide is also an essential factor in choosing your server and provider. Decide up front whether the server will be handled by you, a developer, or your provider to determine responsibilities. You will want to plan to fill any gaps between the management you require and what can be given.
Cloud Dedicated Options Available

We made the decision here at Kinsta to move our entire infrastructure to Google Cloud Platform early 2016, making us the first managed WordPress host to exclusively utilize the platform. By doing this we could ensure a high-level of redundancy and have granular control over our servers while also having the ability to tweak our hosting environment; making customers’ sites faster, more stable, secure and completely isolated. Google Cloud Platform not only allowed us access to one of the largest networks in the world, but also ensures customers have less downtime as we can now utilize live migrations of virtual machines. Today we want to dive deeper into some of the advantages of using Google Cloud Hosting for your business.
Google Cloud
SADA Systems recently surveyed 200+ IT managers about their use of public cloud services, and found that 84% of IT managers surveyed are using public cloud infrastructure today, as opposed to corporate data centers. “All signs point to public cloud adoption growing and enterprise IT becoming more comfortable with the prospect of running their most sensitive data on public cloud infrastructure,” says Tony Safoian, president and CEO at SADA Systems.
Google Cloud Hosting, and or Compute Engine, is just one of many services provided by Google Cloud Platform. They also offer their App Engine, storage, DNS, CDN, and a multitude of other services and products. Google Cloud Platform consists of a set of physical servers, as well as virtual resources like virtual machines (VMs) that are contained in Google’s data centers around the globe. We use Google Cloud Platform’s multi-regional deployment mode. This means that you can choose a different data center for each of your WordPress websites.
Some notable companies that are using Google Cloud Platform (Compute Engine or App Engine) include Spotify, HSBC, Home Depot, Snapchat, HTC, Best Buy, Philips, Coca Cola, Domino’s, Feedly, ShareThis, Sony Music, and Ubisoft. Even Apple has been seen moving some of its services away from AWS, spending between $400 million and $600 million on Google Cloud Platform; although this couldn’t be independently confirmed.
Evernote made the decision to migrate its 200 million users. Ben McCormack, VP Operations at Evernote stated on their blog: “Evernote will gain significant improvements in performance, security, efficiency, and scalability. Moving to the cloud also allows us to focus time and resources on the things that matter most.”
1. Better Pricing Than Competitors
Google bills in minute-level increments (with a 10-minute minimum charge), so you only pay for the compute time you use. And a big bonus is that they give you discounted prices for long-running workloads with no up-front commitment required. Use the VMs for a month and you get a discount, as simple as that. This makes it perfect for startups and for enterprise IT to cut costs. AWS for example requires prepays in the form of “reserved instances” to be eligible for the discounts. And Azure only offers a 5% discount on a 12-month prepay.
Sandeep Dinesh did a good comparison recently of just how cheap Google Cloud’s SSDs are when it comes to performance vs price and a comparison against AWS and Azure. To start off, instances are simply lower in cost on Google Cloud Platform, Compute Engine alone is typically between 40% – 50% cheaper than AWS and Azure.
AWS vs Google Cloud
When it comes to Google Cloud Platform you basically get more IOPS for less than 1/3 of the cost. As you can see with this configuration below with AWS you are looking at $1,102.50/month with 3 year contract as opposed to Google Cloud’s $470.64/month. IOPS is a measurement for input/output operations per second and how often a device can perform IO tasks. In most cases, the great number of IOPS, the better the performance.
2. Private Global Fiber + Tiered Network
Alex said it best in an article about Google Cloud Platform on Techcrunch, “The Power is in the Network.” One thing that sets Google Cloud Hosting apart from some of the other players is that their network is one of the biggest in the world. Will Shulman, co-founder of MongoLab, talked about the network in a panel at Google I/O saying: “It is blazing fast. The other thing – it has a private distributed backbone between all the data centers. You are talking over Google’s backbone, not over the Internet.”
3. Live Migration of Virtual Machines
Another huge advantage for Google Cloud Hosting, especially for how we use it here at Kinsta is live migrations of Virtual Machines. Neither AWS, Azure, or smaller providers like Digital Ocean offer this functionality. So this is a very important differentiator for Google Cloud compared to other cloud providers. As a WordPress hosting provider, this means we are basically always up with our VMs, with no noticeable degradation in performance when they are live migrating VMs between host machines.
Benefits of live migrations allow for the engineers at Google to better address issues such as patching, repairing, and updating the software and hardware, without the need for you to worry about machine reboots. Miche Baker-Harvey, Tech Lead/Manager at Google put together a great illustration of the high-level steps involved in a live VM migration.
4. Improved Performance
Kinsta was just recently named top tier once again in Review Signal’s annual 2018 WordPress hosting performance benchmarks. And a lot of this is thanks to Google Cloud Platform. We were the first managed WordPress host to exclusively utilize Google Cloud and are the only enterprise level host using them. And we would like to think that the results speak for themselves. Kevin at Review Signal threw a whopping 10,000 concurrent users against our servers and as he noted for the Load Storm test, Kinsta had basically flawless performance with flat average response times, minimal errors and no spikes.
5. State of the Art Security
Another big advantage is security. Choosing Google Cloud Platform means you get the benefit of a security model that has been built upon over the course of 15 years, and currently secures products and services like Gmail, Search, etc. Google currently employs more than 500 full-time security professionals. Niels Provos, a security Engineer at Google, gave a great in-depth look at the security of Google Cloud Platform (see video below).
6. Dedication to Continued Expansion
Google has continued to rapidly build out their infrastructure for Google Cloud Platform. On September 29th, 2016 they announced the locations of new strategically placed Google Cloud Regions. We are very excited to see São Paulo and Sydney included in the list as this will help dramatically decrease latency for Google Cloud Hosting customers across South America and Australia. Here is an updated list of all GCP regions:
7. Redundant Backups
Google Cloud Storage is designed for 99.999999999% durability and has 4 different types of storage: Coldline storage, nearline, regional storage, and multi-regional storage. It stores data redundantly, with automatic checksums to ensure data integrity. The beauty of multi-regional storage is that it is also geo-redundant, which means cloud storage stores your data redundantly in at least two regions within the multi-regional location of the bucket. As it pertains to Google Cloud hosting, this ensures you will never lose your data, even in the case of a disaster.

7 steps to secure a cloud Storage server

How to securely leverage the benefits of the cloud by using its strengths to overcome issues that have traditionally been labeled as weaknesses
Here is a list of seven ways to secure your cloud server, standard best practices indicated recently by Simility CEO Rahul Pangam:
1. Encryption of data in transition must be end to end
All interaction with servers should happen over SSL transmission (TLS 1.2) to ensure the highest level of security. The SSL should terminate only within the cloud service provider network.
2. Implement encryption for at-rest data.
Everyone thinks immediately about data that is in motion. However, data that is in one place must be protected as well. As Pangam puts it, encryption of at-rest data is “the only way you can confidently comply with privacy policies, regulatory requirements and contractual obligations for handling sensitive data.” It is certainly a best practice in an increasingly complex threat landscape.
You want to use the AES-256 standard whenever you store disks within the cloud. Your encryption keys actually also need to be encrypted themselves. There should, furthermore, be a system in place to rotate the master key set at routine intervals.
Your cloud provider will also hopefully allow field-level encryption, so that you can encrypt SSN, credit card number, CPF, and other highly sensitive fields.
3. Segmentation and isolation:
The ability of hackers to gain access once, and then roam entire networks seemingly at will, has highlighted the value of network segmentation strategies that make it possible to isolate locations where malware is at work and lessen the potential damage. My team strongly advocates for a layered security approach to combat breaches at every digital touchpoint.
4. Data management
Many clouds -- and data centers -- suffer from sloppy data management. There are surplus, old or partial datasets scattered all over the storage pool. Trash collection is a huge and difficult task, complicated by versioning of files and a lack of naming discipline that leads to many files with the same or similar names.
These are all security risks. The possibility of a critical file getting into a low-security area can’t be ignored. The answer is to first keep a tight grip on data proliferation using deduplication, which was intended to save storage space but security might be a much more important application, and removing extra copies from storage.
Deduplication won’t get rid of files in wrong places. This requires a metadata-driven approach that puts a life expectancy and location, copying and other controls on data. These tools are just entering the storage market.
5. Add protective layers with user-level data security
The cloud service should provide role-based access control (RBAC) features to allow customers to set user-specific access and editing permissions for their data. This system should allow for fine-grained, access control-based, enforced segregation of duties within an organization to maintain compliance with internal and external data security standards.
6. Get a virtual private network and cloud.
In traditional hosting environments, there is a dedicated server, an individual physical machine used by a single organization. A dedicated machine can be divided into either multi-tenant or virtual private servers. In the context of cloud, you want your provider to give you a cloud instance that is yours and yours alone – and to which you would have the sole right to access and control of the data. Customers connect to your datacenter. The traffic that goes back and forth to their virtual private cloud goes to their data center via an Internet Protocol security (IPsec) virtual private network (VPN), a standardized means to send encrypted data.
7. Control shadow IT
Shadow IT accounts for a significant portion of total IT spend today. It is outside of IT's control and insecure, yet most organizations have data flowing back and forth between shadow set ups, usually in the cloud, and corporate-controlled space.
This is a major hole in the security wall. The best fix is to provide a more attractive service and kill off the desire for shadow IT. This means being proactive and providing a flexible, agile, cost-driven cloud service, whether that's private, public or hybrid, to your users.
SaaS is a related problem. Most SaaS vendors are in public clouds and getting them to comply with your governance can be a challenge. This is a major security issue, since they “own” part of your data and also provide a broad gateway to more stored information. Adding encryption and tightly controlling access to your data are just two big steps towards solving this problem.

5 Security Tips To Keep Your Data Secure on the Cloud

Still a generally new development, distributed storage has pulled in a ton of investigation as of late. Before entrusting touchy information to outsider storerooms, buyers need to realize that their data will be put away securely and dependably. What's more, is it? The straightforward answer is yes. In spite of alarm strategies conceived by programmers to undermine customer impression of the cloud, distributed storage stays one of the most secure approaches to store your information today. How about we investigate why.
1. Avoid storing sensitive information in the cloud.
Numerous suggestions over the 'Net sound this way: "Don't keep your data on the cloud." Fair enough, yet it's equivalent to in the event that you asked, "How not to get my home burned to the ground?" and the appropriate response would be, "Don't have a house." The rationale is strong, yet a superior method to decipher such exhortation is, "abstain from putting away touchy data on the cloud." So in the event that you have a decision you ought to decide on warding off your significant data from virtual world or utilize proper arrangements.
2. Cloud Protected.
To keep data secure, the front line of defense for any cloud system is encryption. Encryption methods utilize complex algorithms to conceal cloud-protected information. To decipher encrypted files, would-be hackers would need the encryption key. Although encrypted information is not 100% uncrackable, decryption requires a huge amount of computer processing power, forensic software, and a lot of time. Can it be done? Yes, the only way to keep your data safe for certain is to lock it up in a safe beneath the ground. That being said, your cloud-stored data is generally safer than your locally stored data. Cloud services utilize more complex security methods than the average computer owner is able to devise, giving your cloud-stored data an added level of protection.
3. Read the user agreement to find out how your cloud service storage works.
If you are not sure what cloud storage to choose or if you have any questions as for how that or another cloud service works you can read the user agreement of the service you are planning to sign up for. There is no doubt it's hard and boring but you really need to face those text volumes. The document which traditionally suffers from insufficient attention may contain essential information you are looking for.
4. Encrypt.
Encryption is, so far, the best way you can protect your data. Generally encryption works as follows: You have a file you want to move to a cloud, you use certain software with which you create a password for that file, you move that password-protected file to the cloud and no one is ever able to see the content of the file not knowing the password.

What is Deferent Traditional Servers vs. Cloud Servers?

Traditionally, there are two main options for hosting; shared hosting and dedicated hosting.
Shared Hosting
· The cheaper option, as servers are shared between the hosting provider’s clients (e.g. one client’s website will be hosted on the same server as those of other clients)
· Suitable for small enterprises, where the required capacity is relatively low
· Setup is inflexible and cannot cope with a large amount of traffic
Dedicated Hosting
· A much more advanced form of hosting, whereby clients purchase whole physical servers
· The entire server is dedicated to one client, with no one else sharing it
· In some instances, a client may utilise multiple servers which are all dedicated to their use
· Allows for full control over hosting
· Capacity needs to be predicted, with enough resource and processing power to cope with expected traffic levels. If this is underestimated it can lead to a lack of necessary resource during busy periods, while overestimating will mean paying for unnecessary capacity
Cloud Hosting
· Clients get the best of both worlds: resource can be scaled up or scaled down accordingly, making it more flexible and, therefore, more cost-effective
· When there is more demand placed on the servers, capacity can be automatically increased to match demand without needing to be paid for on a permanent basis
· Cloud servers can run on a hypervisor. The role of a hypervisor is to control the capacity of operating systems so it is allocated where needed
· There are multiple cloud servers which are available to each particular client. This allows computing resource to be dedicated to a client if and when it is necessary – additional capacity is temporarily accessed when required, and then removed when no longer needed
· Cloud servers offer more redundancy – if one server fails, others will take its place
Cloud Firm – VPS Cloud Servers in India - The Most Widely Accepted Server Service
VPS Cloud Servers have already gained a premium position in providing web Cloud Server solutions, to the business and service clients, in India. VPS Cloud Servers provide cheap VPS Cloud Server service, with top level performance and highest reliabilities of virtual Cloud servers. How to a Cloud Storage Works
Comedian George Carlin has a routine in which he talks about how humans seem to spend their lives accumulating "stuff." Once they've gathered enough stuff, they have to find places to store all of it. If Carlin were to update that routine today, he could make the same observation about computer information. It seems that everyone with a computer spends a lot of time acquiring data and then trying to find a way to store it.
For some computer owners, finding enough storage space to hold all the data they've acquired is a real challenge. Some people invest in larger hard drives. Others prefer external storage devices like thumb drives or compact discs. Desperate computer owners might delete entire folders worth of old files in order to make space for new information. But some are choosing to rely on a growing trend: cloud storage.
While cloud storage sounds like it has something to do with weather fronts and storm systems, it really refers to saving data to an off-site storage system maintained by a third party. Instead of storing information to your computer's hard drive or other local storage device, you save it to a remote database. The Internet provides the connection between your computer and the database.
Cloud Storage Basics
There are hundreds of different cloud storage systems. Some have a very specific focus, such as storing Web e-mail messages or digital pictures. Others are available to store all forms of digital data. Some cloud storage systems are small operations, while others are so large that the physical equipment can fill up an entire warehouse. The facilities that house cloud storage systems are called data centers.
Examples of Cloud Storage
There are hundreds of cloud storage providers on the Web, and their numbers seem to increase every day. Not only are there a lot of companies competing to provide storage, but also the amount of storage each company offers to clients seems to grow regularly.
You're probably familiar with several providers of cloud storage services, though you might not think of them in that way. Here are a few well-known companies that offer some form of cloud storage:
· Google Docs allows users to upload documents, spreadsheets and presentations to Google's data servers. Users can edit files using a Google application. Users can also publish documents so that other people can read them or even make edits, which means Google Docs is also an example of cloud computing.
· Web e-mail providers like Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail store e-mail messages on their own servers. Users can access their e-mail from computers and other devices connected to the Internet.
· Sites like Flickr and Picasa host millions of digital photographs. Their users create online photo albums by uploading pictures directly to the services' servers.
· YouTube hosts millions of user-uploaded video files.
· Web site hosting companies like StartLogic, Hostmonster and GoDaddy store the files and data for client Web sites.
· Social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace allow members to post pictures and other content. All of that content is stored on the respective site's servers.
· Services like Xdrive, MediaMax and Strongspace offer storage space for any kind of digital data.
Concerns about Cloud Storage
The two biggest concerns about cloud storage are reliability and security. Clients aren't likely to entrust their data to another company without a guarantee that they'll be able to access their information whenever they want and no one else will be able to get at it.
Even with these protective measures in place, many people worry that data saved on a remote storage system is vulnerable. There's always the possibility that a hacker will find an electronic back door and access data. Hackers could also attempt to steal the physical machines on which data are stored. A disgruntled employee could alter or destroy data using his or her authenticated user name and password. Cloud storage companies invest a lot of money in security measures in order to limit the possibility of data theft or corruption.
The other big concern, reliability, is just as important as security. An unstable cloud storage system is a liability. No one wants to save data to a failure-prone system, nor do they want to trust a company that isn't financially stable. While most cloud storage systems try to address this concern through redundancy techniques, there's still the possibility that an entire system could crash and leave clients with no way to access their saved data.
Cloud storage companies live and die by their reputations. It's in each company's best interests to provide the most secure and reliable service possible. If a company can't meet these basic client expectations, it doesn't have much of a chance -- there are too many other options available on the market.

How to Host Multiple Websites on a Single Web Hosting Account

With domain names becoming a generic commodity more and more people actually own a domain name. However, more often these people not only own one domain name, they have several domain names registered under their name. What is missing is often the knowledge on how to host the matching websites without paying a fortune. This Wiki will explain how host several websites from a single web hosting account.
1
To host several websites from a single web hosting account you will need to pick a web hosting package that includes so-called addon domains or domain aliases as a feature.
2
Pick the top level domain the web hosting account shall be running under. This will be your main domain name you want to work with.
3
Sign up for a web hosting package that includes addon domains.
4
Once you have signed up you will receive login information as well as you will receive so-called DNS server information from your web host. Go to the domain registry where you registered the different domain names and change the DNS server settings to the DNS servers provided by your web host
5
In your web hosting control panel at your web hosting account select the addon feature option. Here you can point the additional domain names to a sub folder inside your main web hosting account. This step will register the additional domain names with the web server application. The web server will now "listen" to incoming http requests based on the host name (aka domain name). Incoming http requests for addon domain names will then be directed to the appropriate sub folders.
6
Create the different website files and upload them to the matching sub folders.

What ought to CIOs search for In Their MSPs

As businesses grow, client wants and preferences play a major role decide the character of the applications and infrastructure that has to be in situ. Enterprises mustbecome additional fluid in their approach of fitting their infrastructure in order that they will quickly adapt to ever-changing client wants. Moving to managed services instead of implementing all systems in-house could be a nice approach; one that saves time and makes managing modification simple and cheap. It is necessary but that as a federation, you partner with somebody United Nations agency can facilitate your build this transfer fast and hassle-free. Things to seem out for are one-click services, quick or pre-built setups for your trade, and regulation-compliant services. As your company’s federation, you need to take a look at the MSPs as partners and not as replacements to your existing systems. you need to facilitate them perceive your expectations and future wants. After all, you don’t need to maneuver to a brand new MSP next year! you'll assess their ability to supply what you wish for the years to return. INDEGENIOUS HEALERS
Introduction: Traditional medicine is an ancient medical practice that existed in human societies before the application of modern science to health. It has evolved to reflect different philosophical backgrounds and cultural origins. Although modern medicine is widely spread, traditional tribal medicine still exists in all the countries across the world. Interest in traditional medicine system has increased over the years. People in many countries are now prepared to look for alternative approaches to maintain their health.
Importance of Indigenous Medicines: Indigenous medicine can be defined as the knowledge, skills and practices of holistic health care, recognized and accepted for its role in the diagnosis, preventive and curative aspects of illness and disease to promote total wellbeing of the community. The approach is holistic and blending of physical, mental, social and spiritual well being. Its use is global. Even in the age of developed western system of medicine the indigenous system of medicine has thrived as the indigenous system of medicines are found to be positive, beneficial and scientifically sound. The traditional adivasi medicine men are regarded as the traditional healers in their societies and they do not belong to any specific school, such as Ayurvedic/Allopathic/Homeopathic etc. There is no written document on the subject. The principle ingredients of indigenous medicine are derived from plant source. Various types of plants and herbs available in the nature are collected for medical purposes by the healers themselves.
India has a great variety of traditional healing systems. Over the centuries, adivasis have developed their own medicine system. The indigenous Adivasi system of medicine based on indigenous theories and beliefs has been handed down orally from generation to generation. There are no written records on this branch of medicine. All the ingredients for the medicines are derived from nature. Besides herbs, seeds, roots and barks, various minerals, metals and other natural matters in their powdered form, are used for the preparations. The healers themselves gather all the necessary plants and herbs that grow wild in the forests intoning special prayers. There are prescriptions prohibitions and taboos for collection of plants and herbs on specific day and time. It is also believed that a particular plant or herb or part thereof is not collected on prescribed date and time, it looses its medicinal value.
Traditional adivasi healers are unlicensed but not necessarily untrained. Like physicians, they pursue their specialties, learning by observation and imitation. Often healing is considered a gift that runs in a family and is passed down from generation to generation. The ability to set bones, for example, is thought to be hereditary as is the power to stop bleeding. The Adivasi herbal medicines have absolutely no side effects.
A large proportion of the population in a number of developing countries still relies on traditional tribal practitioners, including traditional birth attendants, herbalists and bonesetters and on local medicinal plants to meet their primary health care needs. Today indigenous system of medicine is making dramatic comeback and scientists are turning to natural products for answer to ailments like cancer, AIDS, hepatitis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Indigenous medicine under increasing threat: The traditional indigenous medicine system of late is facing a new threat. The modern pharmaceutical companies are plundering the herbal wealth of the forests for manufacturing the modern medicines. This endangers the very survival of the species and makes it more difficult for traditional healers to find the herbs they need for their medicines. Government must take steps to prevent this before irrevocable damage has been done. Another great danger is deforestation, and the adivasis have been protesting against this practice as for them the forest is their life.
Traditional knowledge is in demand as a source of information of the possible properties of biological material. The traditional adivasi knowledge is not protected within the patent system as it stands today. The turmeric case highlights the problems faced by India in preventing bio-piracy. The recording of traditional knowledge seeks to reduce the possibility of bio-piracy, but looks to future legislation to effectively protect the rights of the people. Some important structural changes based on a sound legal footing are proposed, which can be easily incorporated within the present databases, and would go a long way in preventing bio-piracy and protecting the interests of the knowledge-holders footing. Realizing the potentiality of tribal medicines in curing various of chronic diseases, Pharmaceutical companies are trying their best to have the knowledge and register in their name under intellectual property rights.
Need for promoting and protecting Indigenous Medicine System: In developing countries like India where more than one-third of the population lack access to essential medicines, the provision of safe and effective traditional and alternative remedies could become an important source of increasing access to health care. One way to ensure this is to integrate traditional medicine into the formal health system, thus ensuring better safety and adequate follow-up for patients. As the modern medicine is costly and the common people are not in position to buy it so there is greater need for promotion of adivasi medicines. Since tribal medicine is integrated in other cultural elements of a society, its concept and practice are epistemologically transmitted from generation to generation orally in the absence of written language in non litrate and pre literate societies, there is strong need for documentation of such languishing tradition and try them after proper scientific study.
