Hi! I know you usually rec fics. I hadn't read fics before but I want to start now. I've gone through your recs, but there are just so many fics? I don't know where to start. So instead of fics, can you rec authors that I should check out? Thank you!

Hmmmm....I can imagine it feels really overwhelming to figure out where to start. Ok, this is obviously very subjective because it’s only my opinion, but here are some authors I think give you a great place to begin. Make sure to read the tags because you haven’t really given me anything to go on here!

In my opinion, these authors have all written a number of very good fics, but they also write in different styles so you can get a sense of what you might like.

Zarah5 -- my favorites are Into The Blue, Wear it Like A Crown, and Pull Me Under, but their fics, overall, are very good and what I think of as a pretty classic fanfiction style.

100percentsassy and gloria_andrews -- both good on their own, but together they’ve written some amazing fic -- particularly Love Is A Rebellious Bird and Wild And Unruly.

LoadedGunn this author writes a LOT of explicit smut, so if that’s not your thing, maybe skip them. At least for now. But if you’re down for it, my favorites are Are You Gonna Be My Girl, Breathe Me In (You Won’t Release), and Switch Out The Batteries —although, you might want to start with the first part of that series.

Whimsicule Just outstanding writing. They tend to write really unique storylines, and make you feel as if you’ve been dropped into the middle of wherever the story is talking place. No smut. My favorites are And down the long and silent street, The Dead of July, and Black With Autumn Rain. 

objectlesson wrote some of the best XFactor canon fics in this fandom (IMO). Sometimes that’s a nice place to start because you’re not having to imagine the boys as firemen or ballet dancers or whatever. They did also do some good AUs, but I’m particularly suggesting the canon fics to start. If I had to choose, I’d say Born to Make You Happy and Good Enough to Eat are my faves.

I obviously have a LOT more authors and a lot more fic I like and could go on forever, but this was my best shot at giving you something to start with. Please let me know if any of these work, or don’t, or if after reading some you realize you have some tropes that you think you like. I’m happy to try and steer you to more!
