I am great because I am an informed citizen.

I am involved in politics and actively follow up on the government and its climate.

I feel that being involved in politics or at least being in the know is so important. There are life changing decision being made and it is important to be aware. Last year I went to a women’s march in Miami and it was so eye opening. There were women there that were almost 80, protesting, encouraging the youth to go out and fight for what we believe, fight for what we deserve. I think that I have also met some amazing people and had some amazing conversations with people about political climate.  

I’m also great because I know how to play the French horn. I have been playing for almost 7 years, and it shaped a big part of who I am. I have good rhythm and I never miss a beat. I marched in my high school and my school won numerous awards for our performances.

I’m also great because I am reliable. I am ALWAYS there for my friends and even those I don’t know well. I love helping people and doing the best I can to be supportive.

My name is Nausheen Nadir Merchant.

My name means sweet, or waterfall. My sister named me, my dad and mom didn’t have a preference so they let my sister choose the name. My little name is my father’s name.

For almost 18 years of my life, my name was mispronounced. Only in mosque my name was pronounced correctly, but all throughout school it was pronounced as NAsheen, instead of NOsheen. When I got to college, I made it a personal goal to make sure no one ever pronounced it incorrectly. Honestly I love my name, I’ve never felt ashamed of it. It has defined the person I am and made me into the strong confident women I am. I probably would not ever change my name, but I do have a friend how changed his name. I think a person should do whatever makes them happy. I want to name my children something tied to my Islamic faith, that is easily pronounced by non Muslims. I never want to put my children in the position I was. And if I do name them something that is difficult, I will make sure they are able to stand up proudly and pronounce their name. It isn’t whatever, its important.

Something I own that people may find uncool are my point 03 black pilot pens. Most people don’t think twice about the pens they use, but for me this is vital. The gentle and thin lead of the pen keeps my work neat and organized. I also think pilot pens are cool because they have such a vast variety of colors. They have the basic colors, red, blue, green and black, but they also have cool colors like pink, maroon, purple, light blue, orange. People might think that pilot pens are uncool because they probably have not used these pens. I started using these pens when I was in sixth grade, initially I started off using the basic colors with 07 lead. As I grew older, I learned that there were different leads. When I started college, I learned about the 05 lead, and that was life changing. The precision of my notes were beautiful. Fortunately, my ink ran out and I went to buy more pens, and I discovered the 03 lead. When I speak to my friends they think 03 is too thin, but they have not evolved to understand how clean and precise the 03 point is. When everyone gets on the pilot 03 lead bandwagon I will be off to the 0.001 lead.

I absolutely love my beats by dre. The only cool beats are matte black. Any other color is uncool, because black is sleek and doesn’t get dirty easily. These headphones better be cool for the price I paid. Although expensive, the benefits outweigh the cost. I am able to use my noise canceling headphones in the library on the first floor and the second floor of the library. I am able to blur out the sounds of students bickering on the first floor and I am able to blur out the noise of students juuling in the second floor. I also love my beats because when my roommate snores loudly, I pull out my headphones and cancel out her noise. These headphones are not only good for studying and sleeping but I can also use these headphones at the gym. While I’m running regular headphones slip out, but these headphones are reliable, and I can listen to music and run. Personally I think these are the coolest headphones. To me, anything can be cool if its useful. Although a lot of people now have these headphones, I don’t think to the trend will go because the need for noise cancelling will never go away. Any college student, or high school student would find these helpful; and anything that helps me get good grades is cool.
