the overwhelming majority of trans adults currently alive did not have access to gender-affirming surgeries, puberty blockers, and hormones as kids. while we fight for every person, including every child, to have gender affirming care on-demand, it's also important to remember not to paint lack of access to trans care as a death sentence for kids who currently lack other options. inaccessibility of trans care is painful, especially for very young people, but it isn't certain death. together, in community, we can stay alive and fight for a future where we all get what we need.

Here’s how to tell if a language is easy to learn

None of them are easy

They’re all stupid and terrible and will kick you in the nuts

Languages similar to ones you already speak

Languages you have a lot of motivation to learn

Languages that have a lot of resources and media to watch and/or listen to and/or read

So, if you’re reading this with relative ease (aka you speak English fluently) probably French or Spanish

Do whatever you want though idk

Don’t just choose a language based on how easy it is

Unless that’s what it takes to keep you motivated idk

Go learn Frisian or something

everything is very bad in this modern age but i truly think Merlin Bird ID App is a wonder so astonishing that it almost makes everything else worth it. like you can just sit somewhere and listen to birds and 4 minutes later you will know stuff you didn't know before. not only that but you might even retain that knowledge. this morning i sat with my coffee and let Merlin record my surroundings for 4 minutes and now i know 1) what a northern parula sounds like 2) that i have been listening to northern parulas for years without being aware that they even existed. this cheerful little gold-and-gray guy has been trilling at me my whole life and i've never known his name and now i do! you can sit there and hear something and think "that sounds familiar, i'd like to know what that is" and then look down and see the little bird ID light up LIVE. ohhh of course, a red-eyed vireo, how could i have forgotten. AI good actually.

The thing they don't tell you about getting really into one specific historical period is that very quickly every conversation turns into an attempt to avoid sounding like the "horribly wet in wexford today but not as bad as in the 690s" tweet

all the trans bathroom bans have this awful tendency to push the overton window of even trans advocacy by trans people to the right

so many trans people now are focused on pleading to let trans women use women's restrooms and to let trans men use men's restrooms that I feel like the demand that was much more prominent even 5 years ago to construct non-segregated accessible bathrooms for everyone is almost nonexistent
