Service dogs are still dogs and dogs aren’t perfect

Your service dog will still shed in public. He might miss a cue from you. He may ignore you once in a blue moon. Maybe he doesn’t heel perfectly. He’s probably barked once or twice when he shouldn’t have. Before you knew your dog well, he might have had an accident in public. Maybe he wags his tail and stares when people talk to him. Maybe training takes longer than you expected.

Service dogs are dogs first, and service dogs second. They don’t speak English and absolutely have a mind of their own. Nobodies perfect, and neither is your pooch!

When you ask to pet a working dog, don't be upset if you get a short answer. You're not the first person we've had ask that day, hell you're probably not even the second person in an hour that has asked to touch or has touched without permission.

Don't get upset because we get short with you, get upset because so many people have already done what you have tried to do that you have put us on the defensive before you even get close to us.
