I bought Gideon the Ninth ages ago after my front page was flooded with praise for it and finally got around to reading it (in an attempt to channel my endless doomscrolling into getting back into reading)......

Really liked it and have just bought Harrow the Ninth along with another book (The Archive Undying by Emma Mieko Candon) that had a blurb of praise from the author of Gideon the Ninth on the front alongsides a cool mecha which is my greatest weakness

If anyone has any other similar stories to recommend I'll gladly add it to my TBR, though I will note I have little interest in how 'spicy' a story is. I love romance, but in the land of Pride and Prejudice (2005) with endless yearning/tension or cute fluff. Spice is okay I guess, but it won't sell me on a book, especially a fantasy/sci-fi. Like cool, you can write really good 'spice', but why does your worldbuilding have the level of depth of a poorly written isekai power fantasy?
