what the mascots would probably do during quarantine
tough times are ahead of us all, and i’m very tired and have no other ideas, so i hope this helps lighten the mood! of course, if you don’t wanna read about these troubling times, i’ll just cut it short so that you don’t have to scroll allll the way past it. headcanons are below the cut!
please don’t ask why i made this. i got very very bored.
Rookie/JPG
They were kinda already in and out of each other’s houses anyways, being as close as they were, and decided to stock up on food before things got too crazy. They took only what they needed, but definitely enough so that it would last them a while. The crowds at the supermarket were definitely overwhelming for the both of them, but they survived! They ordered pizza that night to celebrate.
They both end up staying at Rookie’s igloo, since Rookie has to take care of his pet rock. JPG doesn’t mind, as a matter of fact, if he ends up waking up earlier than Rookie, he feeds the rock (a jar of sprinkles and glitter?) for Rookie instead.
During quarantine they got a ton of movies to watch. Mostly animated ones. Rookie’s a big fan of animation, and while Guy doesn’t really mind the genre, there are other things he’d like to show to Rookie as well. On movie nights, they tend to fall asleep on the couch, definitely regretting it the next morning cause of how lumpy the cushions are.
Besides that, there are plenty of things just kinda laying around the place that occupy them. Of course there are things like board games and video games and books and whatnot, but there are also small crafts and hobbies that they both end up picking up. Rookie ends up baking a lot more. Guy can’t help but supervise just a little bit in the beginning, but Rookie gets a hang of everything very quickly. Except for that casserole. We don’t talk about the casserole. Surprisingly, JPG pick up knitting. It starts out with small things, like hats and scarves and sewing up small holes in both Rookie’s clothes and his own clothes, but soon it just kinda becomes a full blown addiction. I’m not gonna tell you. Just... picture it.
Rookie offers his bed to Guy, and though he’s reluctant at first, Rookie reassures that it’s fine, and that it’s really nothing to worry about. Sure, the couch kinda hurts, but Rookie falls asleep easier watching TV anyways. Most nights, both of them ends up sleeping alone. But other times, they end up cuddling up together. Maybe Guy had another one of his bad dreams. He only really get those when he sleeps in unfamiliar places. Someone had to wake him up in the break room that one time, though no one really found out what the dream was about. Or maybe Rookie got cold, or he just simply couldn’t sleep on the couch that night. On the nights that they stayed together, they usually ended up just talking themselves to sleep. Though other times, Rookie would sneak into bed and pretend that Guy didn’t notice.
Overall they’re a good pair in pretty much any given circumstance, but in a tough situation like this, they’ve got each other’s back. Are they gonna end up crushing on each other? They probably already are. Maybe one already has been. Again, that’s up to you.
Gary/Skip
Skip can’t really get sick. He’s dead. With all of the shops and businesses closed, and no penguins really around on the street, everything is pretty boring. On the bright side, he usually just hung around Gary’s place anyways, so long story short, he’d usually end up barging in on Gary every now and then. Though Gary had been putting his own research into the virus, he wasn’t really the kind of scientist that could help come up with a cure. So while sticking around at home, he could at least continue prototyping some inventions that he couldn’t really work on at the EPF HQ. Explosions cost money, you know?
Unfortunately, accidents are a lot more likely when you have a ghost phasing through the walls and your tools and yourself.
All the time.
Gary isn’t particularly annoyed by it, it’s just frustrating when he’s *this* close to thinking he finally got something, and then Skip reminds Gary that there are still penguins at the store stockpiling toilet paper.
Speaking of which, Skip *does* make a good errand boy, though Gary doesn’t really use that opportunity too much. Just for small errands, like picking up more sanitizer (Gary uses a lot. Trust me on this one) or tissues. Gary tends to do grocery shopping on his own, but because of how busy the stores are, it makes him dread going there much more than he already had before. Though Skip is usually there to chat him up when there are people fighting over a can of beans or someone’s stupid kids just running around and playing swords with a surprisingly long tube of candy. It’s a good distraction.
Though Skip acts like he doesn’t care about a lot of things, he does care for Gary quite a bit. Since he doesn’t need sleep, he acts not only as Gary’s timekeeper and alarm clock. There are some times were Skip catches Gary at his desk, and sends him off to bed, despite how peaceful he looks every single time.
“Imagine dying in your sleep at your DESK, Gary! That would be an uncomfortable death. Do *you* want an uncomfortable death? You sure don’t!”
Skip usually says something like that when he gets caught dozing off. The emphasis he puts on the whole death bit sends a chill down Gary’s spine. Skip can be cryptic and even scary when he wants to be, though there was a bit of worry in his tone. Gary usually shrugs it off, though sometimes he’ll bite back with a quick comeback.
“What, did you die dozing off in the boiler room, Skip?”
“Maybe I did!”
There are more pleasant conversations to be had, though. It’s typically in the morning, when Gary’s having breakfast. Though Skip tries to wake Gary up at the crack of dawn, Gary ends up sleeping in until later in the morning, almost closer to noon. Sometimes they’ll talk about the news, and how crazy or stupid people are being, or talk about completely different things. Some topics are random, while other are about life, or whatever’s stressing Gary out at the moment.
They find this odd sort of comfort in each other’s presence, even if they are quite different from one another. It’s almost scary how well they can get along at some points, but it’s not like that’s a bad thing. It’s actually quite nice.
Aunt Arctic
Though she has to resign her role as The Director for just a little while, she assumes that this will give Herbert the alone time he wishes for. Why attack the island when there’s no one out and about to possibly bother Herbert? Though it would be ridiculous to assume that all this happened because of Herbert, that’s not what she was here for.
Turns out that finding accurate news is hard when everything is changing so quickly. Though there are weekly releases, it’s tedious to edit everything over and over again when something comes out as fake, or not useful anymore. Though she isn’t the only reporter still working with the Times in this time of need, she’s still the head reporter, and it’s easy to feel like everyone’s counting on her, even when she’s not The Director.
She does work in breaks for herself.
Small episodes of TV shows she enjoys. She had saved a few crime and history documentaries for herself as well. She gives herself a few hours a day just for herself to curl up with a blanket, a cup of tea, and her puffles. The rest of the day is a constant grind until she definitely *has* to go to sleep.
Even though it’s quite a stressful job, she’s trying her hardest to keep the island safe from misinformation, and because of not only her hard work, but a few other writers, The Club Penguin Times is still a reliable news source.
P.H (or Paige, if you will!)
Though she was planning on getting a few rescues that she’d been keeping in her home adopted, the process had to be put on hold because of these circumstances. Paige is mostly in charge of making sure that puffles, mostly the ones in the Pet Shop, are in good care during this time of need. Not only that, but she has her own foster care puffles at home, which unfortunately won’t be able to find their forever homes for the time being. But in this case, the more the merrier.
Paige usually spends her time on the internet, reading a book, or taking a walk, especially with the puffles. She also has to walk the ones still inside the Pet Shop, though some employees there are starting to take a few of them home just to take them off her hands.
Sometimes P.H goes live on her social media, showing off some of the puffles to the world and talking about what she’s been doing to try and take care of the critters, and what others can do to take care of their own furry friends along with themselves.
Paige isn’t really that much of an influencer, but she does get some worried messages from penguins all across the island. She’s always happy to help a friend in need, whether it’s about puffles or not!
While Paige is looking out for herself, she’s still looking out for everyone’s wellbeing, even if they’re not penguins. It’s just what she does! Even if the quarantine keeps her inside, she’s always moving around and keeping herself active and entertained.

I kinda wanted to get this post out cause I’ve had it in my drafts for about a month now. I may or may not do a second part to this, but at the same time, you’re more than welcome to use this idea if you got any sort of inspiration from this! I hope you’re all safe at home. If you’re bored and got nothing to do, you’re more than welcome to join the discord server! Love you guys.
