one of the more obscure projects i’ve been working on (i think—i don’t know how well-versed the average internet user is in danny phantom fic)

i tried a couple new techniques on this one bc it was a smaller project so i felt i had some room to play around and while it was an immensely frustrating time working on it, i’m not unhappy with the way it turned out <3

now onto shadow of a doubt, already typesetted and printed and ready to be bound!

I noticed while watching the show that in the episode “prisoners of love” the ghost zone appears very different compared to every other time we see it.

It’s more alive and chaotic and looks like reality is truly breaking down. The entire realm looks like the proper home of an eldritch abomination. There are also way less doors everywhere.

Compare this to every other time we see the ghost zone.

Far more empty and dead. With thousands upon thousands of doors everywhere.

You could just say it’s a creators choice or that the old, more alive ghost zone would have been more time consuming and expensive to make. But I think I have an in universe explanation.

What if the location the Fenton portal leads to CHANGES every time it’s turned off and back on again.

Going back to “Prisoners of love”, the portal Danny exits from has one large difference between it and every other time we see it.

There’s no Fenton machinery surrounding it.

If you don’t know what I mean by that, in all episodes after “Prisoners of love” where we are shown the Fenton portal from the ghost side, it has a bunch of machinery resembling the Portal on the human side surrounding it.

^ this is from the episode “13” which takes place AFTER “prisoners of love”. ^

So what if the Fenton portal’s exit location used to change slightly after it’s turned off and on again and the Fentons were completely unaware of it until the specter speeder was built with the intention of going on expeditions into the ghost zone, they then realized that the exit portal was changing locations, realized how dangerous it would be if they attempted to travel into the ghost zone and either ended up in an extremely dangerous area (like the ghost zone we see in prisoners of love) or got stuck because the portal closed and opened again somewhere else and built the machinery we see surrounding the exit portal to stop it from moving around and to keep the exit portal in a much emptier, less dangerous part of the ghost zone.

Maybe they kept the portal exit in a much less chaotic area to try and slow the amount of ghosts that came through as well.

It also makes sense that Walker would want his prison in a dangerous part of the zone. If the outside is far more dangerous than the inside and far away from any of the doors that take you throughout the zone, less prisoners will try to escape and less prisoners will succeed.
