More from my Dragons return concept. Full colours this time.

I feel like Steve would have a very Snotlout, Hookfang type relationship with his dragon. ( the dragon being very nonchalant about the whole experience and tolerating Steve’s enthusiasm and general Steve antics.)

Jim’s Dragon friend has a big heart, just like him. And is the first dragon in my story concept to find Arcadia. (And may or may not also become Jim’s therapy dragon. Boy does he need one.)

Blinkys not so sure about the whole wild dragon thing, he’s more of the ‘I’ll stay where my feet reach the ground thank you very much!’ Kind of troll.

Unfortunately the same can’t be said for the Deady Gailslash that’s become particularly fond of him. Heaven’s knows why? 🙃

Claire befriends a dragon with a particularly unique ability that orientates around fear and light within shadow, which greatly reflects a lot of herself.

Aaarrrgghhs just ecstatic to have made a new friend.

Toby, he’s loving every minute of it. And may have named the twin dragons after a hot pepper.

I definitely ment to mirror the original dragon riders in this from Httyd. If you couldn’t tell, as technically this is history repeating itself. ( I’m not counting the nine realms show, that is not cannon, but TOA and Httyd same universe are.)

I’ve been developing this concept for a long time, as of now it’s just art, but once everything is finalised I will be doing a fanfic on this, so keep an eye out if your interested.😁

Some background for this AU

It started as me wanting to redo my Jersey and Wizards fics

I never initially intended to go as far back as changing Trollhunters, only changing Wizards and RotT and including Jersey

But over time I began making some lore changes and realized that many scenes from the original ended up getting altered, and without proper content, many of my changes to Wizards would fall apart

So as such I went back and only planned to do the minor changes necessary while keeping most of Trollhunter’s largely the same

But the with more editing and tweaking, this fic eventually become a full AU rewrite starting from Trollhunters

So now— some changes made

Trollhunter now begins in Jim and Toby’s freshman year. And the amulet of daylight make Jim become a half troll

i believe(?) i read that one of the ideas for post-full-troll jim was for him to become a changeling. was there a reason he turned fully human again instead? thank you!!

For Wizards, we’d originally planned for Claire to use her new mastery over dark magic to turn Jim into a changeling, just as Morgana originally created them back in the Middle Ages. (Merlin couldn’t do it or refused to acknowledge the possibilities its powers, because he never learned or trusted dark magic.) Jim would have been able to shift between human, half-troll and beast form at will — or perhaps via his emotions, not unlike The Hulk.

This ending was altered when those working on the follow-up film determined Jim’s arc for the movie would revolve around him coming to terms with losing his powers and being “merely human” during the magic apocalypse. Sadly, our ending simply wouldn’t work with that direction for the film.

For the curious, I’ve attached a small snippet of the original outline grid to see how it would have slotted in rather elegantly.

Jim Lake should remain a troll

Jim may seem like a "reluctant hero": he's an ordinary man who suddenly learns he's the chosen one and must now become a true hero. However, it is important to remember that Jim originally dreamed of adventure, something unusual, magical, incredible and unlike the typical gray reality; he literally tells Toby about this in almost their first dialogue!

Jim Lake is a loser. He is far from the most popular and successful at school, he has problems in his family and has almost no friends. If we consider the precursor to Trollhunters as a partial canon – I'm talking about the novella written by Guillermo del Toro and Daniel Kraus – then we can get a full picture of the wretchedness, narrow-mindedness and melancholy of the protagonist's life. Who, despite all the hardships, unlike his book counterpart, still does not lose heart and diligently tries to fit into his environment, to integrate into it: here I especially want to highlight his care for his mother; that he really replaces her as a parent figure and tries to understand her, and not hold a grudge against her for his defective childhood. Jim is a kind, responsible and smart guy who still can't live an ordinary life. He can't just blend in with the crowd and not stand out. He tries to meet the demands of the world, tries to adopt its rhythm, but to no avail. Internally, this crisis shows us that the main character is not really happy with his life and does not want to accept it.

The amulet, or rather Merlin, chooses Jim as a Trollhunter. He has new complications, responsibilities, problems and, of course, adventures. Now Jim has a much harder time balancing on the edge of "normality" in everyday life without arousing suspicion. The hero's internal conflict grows when a crack appears in his attempts to correspond.

Although with all this we can't say that the hero doesn't like his new fate. Yes, at first he can't cope with it, the doubts are too great and the burden of responsibility is pressing, but how many opportunities does it open up?.. no matter how much shit and troubles the title of Trollhunter brings, Jim is definitely happy with it and proud of it.

Fate plays a double game with Jim, which inevitably leads him to the main choice: either one or the other. While he is successful as a hunter, he inevitably loses as a human, and vice versa. Sooner or later he will have to make a final decision.

The fact that the amulet chose a human is unique. But it is a mistake to think that Jim's transformation into a troll deprived him of this uniqueness. Merlin made a human Trollhunter not because of his species, but because of his inner qualities.

Jim is magnanimous and he has a big golden heart; that's what made him special, that's what was considered "human" about him. As a trollhunter, Jim is too honest, too kind, too sensitive... oh my gosh, Jim was different from other trollhunters by his soul and character, not by his appearance! That's why Jim always remains Jim; whether he is half-troll or not, it doesn't change anything "inside".

Jim's transformation into a troll was necessary for the plot, both internally—Jim fully accepts his destiny as a Trollhunter—and externally: as a human, Jim has no advantage. He's weak, vulnerable, and fragile. As a troll, Jim has a ton of new powers and abilities; he'll finally be able to fight powerful enemies for real.

The story began with a child whose destiny was to become a Trollhunter, therefore, his transformation into a half-troll was inevitable. This step represents Jim's acceptance of himself; his full emergence as a Trollhunter. His final choice. Jim's transformation into a troll isn't just a nice-to-have option, a superpower, or a buff. No, it's a crucial and necessary step in the development of the story and character.

So for me, half troll Jim will be canon. Will be what makes him a good and structurally complex hero.

Well, and I'm not even talking about the fact that this would simply be a logical outcome of events, which would give way to further adventures and their development. Well, and about the fact that the canon itself spoke about the irreversibility of this choice.

Never realized how much Wizards f up the lore in trollhunters. Im rewatching Tales of Acardia rn and this is really the first time I’m realizing it.

Like in trollhunters, it was never said that deya was the first trollhunter. It was said she was the GREATEST but not the first. If she was the first then the battle of Killahead would have been WAY older. In Wizard is shows deya was the first trollhunter and that the battle was only about 1000 years before.

Another thing Wizards messed up, is how old Morgana actually is. In trollhunters Merlin says, she is way older then he is. Merlin is probably like 2000 years old. IN WIZARDS IT IS SAID THAT MORGANA IS LIKE 900+. Wtf is with that. ALSO it was said that they fought each other for millennials. IN WIZARDS THEY FOUGHT FOR A SMALL BIT.

Also another in trollhunters. They said that the sword of daylight has fought Gummar many times before Deya locked him away. (Im not 100% sure they said this but I think it was also said that multiple trollhunters have fought him?) Wizards only shows daylight being used in one battle, only fighting Gummar ONE TIME.

Wizards pisses me off tbh. It’s really good but you gotta ignore how it doesn’t follow the lore in TH. People say that the books f up the lore more than wizards. IM READING THE BOOKS RN AND IT DOESNT ITS ACTUALLY FOLLOWING THE TH LORE.
