2025 Lunga
The puffin season has kicked off for 2025. A great abundance of seabirds on the island of Lunga. There seems to be a solid number of puffins onshore. Lots of courting and nest building. Always funny wee characters entertaining the visitors. Also spotted the fulmars, kittiwakes, razorbills and shags all building or on their nests. Harp rock filling up with the noisy guillemots.

Deep Glide
This week Cameron spent his time in the Lynn of Morvern. SAMS and UEA chartered Roshven to run some trials with the sea gliders. The weather wasn't too bad for launching and recovering the devices. The main aim was to get a few tests completed and calibration before the gliders head off to the deep oceans.

Super Spell
The last couple of weeks have been very summer like. Calm seas, blue sky days and even some warmth at times. This has allowed the boys to get on the water. A few different trips from the Tobermory run to a Corryvreckan tour. Also cracking on with the jobs in the yard and last preparations for the canopy Redbays. Hopefully this isn't our summer come early, surely not.

Staff day out
A couple of weeks ago the team had a fun trip out on the water. It was the Tobermory Stores staff day out. This time they headed north. It was lucky timing with the weather as it closed in the next day. As they headed over to Coll they spotted some common dolphins and also a juvenile white tailed eagle on the cairns. Plenty of bird life too. Lots of gannets, guillemots, gulls, razorbills and the odd Manx shearwater. A wee pit stop in Muck before going around Eigg and stopping in for a picnic. A cracker of a day and a great laugh aboard.

Spruce up
That time of the year when the pilot boat comes out for a wee tidy up. Always a list of jobs as every vessel has. Luckily managed to get inside at Creran Marines shed. The boys managed to get lots of jobs done such as anti foul, polish, new grippy deck paint, LED lights and a bunch of other jobs to meet the work boat 3 code. Thanks again for Creran marine and RCD services for their help. Lady Smith back on duty at Glensanda super quarry (Holcim UK Ltd).

Pushing Cargo
Earlier in March there was an incident in the Lynn of Morvern. Robbie was out on his usual pilot duties, this time the ship was departing the quarry. As the bulk carrier left the berth her main engine came into difficulties. The wind direction wasn't favourable, so Robbie assisted with a push while another vessel pulled to stop her touching the shore. calm heads and quick thinking helped all round. More assistance arrived but luckily the main engine kicked into life and the situation was under control. Well done to Robbie and all involved.

Maintenance
During the quieter months there are many jobs to do. They can range from general maintenance on the boats to a bit of welding. This time Struan had the hot metal glue gun out prepping one of the boat trailers. A new galvanised draw bar, to ensure it lasts against the salty environment.

Wee Run Out
Last week Cameron was back on the water. Very early in the season but always good to keep the boat ticking over and to see what is out there. This time it was some guests that have been out for many years now. They cruised around Lismore, on the way they spotted a 3 juvenile white tailed sea eagles, a northern diver, guillemots and a few seals hunting in the currents. Still cold on the water with the snow on the hills, but the heater came in handy.

Doddie Aid 2025
Struan and Cameron were fortune to be asked to help out again for the Doddie Aid. It was a different route and style of cycling this year. It was a full on cycle from Dublin to Edinburgh via Aberdeen. Stopping at many rugby clubs along the way. It was incredible to experience the hospitality and generosity of clubs. It was a gruelling route with over 780 miles covered in 5 days. Over 250 cyclists joined in with some cycling the whole route and the majority working in a relay style. The weather was kind again this year. Rob Wainwright led by example and an amazing team helped organise the event. Back at base Robbie kept the pilot boat available and boats running.
