I love the feeling of finishing an exam and it's like ok! Great now I can dump all that information out of my brain for a little bit. Not that it really works that way but it feels like it.
I'm Raneen, a mother of three children: Mohammed, Rami, and Julia, currently living in Gaza. My husband, Mahmoud, traveled to Egypt for work three days before the war broke out, leaving us alone. I have struggled greatly with the kids; we’ve had to flee from the north to the center, then to Rafah, and back again.🇵🇸
We are living in extremely difficult conditions. My daughter Julia suffers from severe chest allergies,💔 and her condition has worsened due to the war’s aftermath. I can’t provide their basic needs because of the scarcity of resources and rising prices.💔🍉
Please, help me care for my children. There is no safe place in Gaza; everywhere is at risk at any moment. I am trying to get to Egypt to join my husband, but it requires a significant amount of money. I have lost our home and all our sources of income.
I trust in your humanity, and I kindly ask for your support. Please don’t turn away from us. Help us achieve our goal of leaving Gaza and finding safety for my children 💔🇵🇸
“A Student’s Dream”: It was a common thing for medical students to reverse the ‘student/patient’ dynamic creatively (as though in a dream) where the corpses were opperating on the student.
Open Letter, cotton fabric woven by ANNI ALBERS, 1958.
[from the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation]
Note on artwork, courtesy of Starting at Zero fundraising event by Elena Arzak:
Anni Albers was fascinated with communication and made reference to text and writing in the titles of multiple pictorial weavings. Open Letter was, she said, her missive to Josef [Albers]. A striking black and white textile constructed in a leno open-work weave, that upon closer inspection reveals small and brightly-colored supplemental weft threads, each added in manually during the weaving process.
