A Guide to Creating Workflows

Workflows have now become a necessary part of any organization. To create a custom workflow of your own, you must first download SharePoint Designer. The following steps will make it easy for you to do so;
1.      Go to Microsoft Download Center: http://microsoft.com/download
2.      Search SharePoint Designer in the search field
3.      Click on the link
4.      Select your platform whether 64-bit or 32-bit
5.      Finish the installing process and download SharePoint Designer
Connect SharePoint Designer to SharePoint Online
SharePoint Designer is as easy to download as Office 365’s 2013 version. When you open SharePoint Designer, you'll need to connect it to a SharePoint site to create a workflow.
1.      Open SharePoint Designer
2.      Click on Start menu, click on All Programs, click on Microsoft SharePoint and then finally click on SharePoint Designer
3.      Click on Open Site on SharePoint Designer's start page
4.      Enter the site you want to connect to
5.      Click on Open
6.      Insert your credentials that gain access to SharePoint Online
Create a Custom SharePoint Workflow
You can use SharePoint Designer for a variety of different things. The navigation page of it allows you to switch between various aspects of the application itself. To create a new workflow on SharePoint, all you have to do is follow the following simple steps!
1.      Click on Workflow option on the navigation page
2.      Click on List Workflow in the drop-down menu in the New panel on SharePoint Designer on the top left corner
3.      Select the list that you would like to associate with your new custom workflow (Here you can add a new name for the workflow, write a short description for it and choose a platform type for it)
4.      Click on OK to create a new custom workflow
5.      A new window for Workflow will open where you’ll be able to do much more
6.      Select Local Variables in the ribbon bar (Here you will be able to add several local variables such as the current date)
7.      Come to the Workflow window and search for Set Workflow Variable (you may use this for other variables that suit your organization and continue to customize the workflow further from here on out, to your liking)
