When is the right time to launch?
Sooner than you probably think or feel comfortable to. Launching is overrated. You don't need it to be "huge" because it doesn't really matter if it is huge. What matters is proving value, building trust, and sharing with the world. I'll elaborate. Proving value. Bringing people their food (ie waiting tables) is a valued service. People pay for that value. It's super simple but it's about basic human needs. Another term for this type of value is service. Your product could lack in many areas but your service can make your business/project standout. If you can't make a great product: focus on great service and improvement in both areas. Trust. This is not easy. You cannot talk your way into getting trust from someone. You have to earn it through your actions. Trust can be earned in seconds or years or decades. Trust is also so fragile that you can lose it in an instant. My advice: do you best to be open and honest even when it's easier to "pad" the truth. Trust is not rational and it is not being punctual or merely doing what you said you're going to do. Trust is a feeling and its in your gut. Sharing. This is what marketing now is. Just sharing. Like campfire stories during tribal times, you need to speak and share your story. Start with your beliefs, follow with what you do because of those beliefs, and finally, share your project. Think of telling a scary story, if you tell the ending first it will suck! Your story, and your project's story has come about because of a belief and a road of action. So why did I bring this up in launching? Your product is only a piece of the equation. The sooner you start, the sooner you will be able to build trust and value for the audience you are sharing with. Learn from the audience and build more trust and more value. Push hard for 1,000 true fans as soon as you can. Value and trust is how I intended to get there. Cheers

http://geekreations.com/livespeak
I will be sharing insights in how I launched my course as well as how you can do the same.
Codepreneurs, you all are getting better and better everyday and you're making me work harder and harder to improve the quality of the content as well as the support for all computer systems.
There is much, much more in the works so stay tuned!

I freaking love this.
You know when you have the feeling of OH yes, this is it! I have that feeling right now. It's a combination of things going in the right direction with the marketing & promotion of CoE, but EVEN better when you have students who ask you questions about problems you once had to go through yourself (and often alone).
I need to keep pushing to improve the project. Are you with me?

Push hard for the 1,000 True Fans
I've heard countless times from the likes of Tim Ferriss and Seth Godin, that all you really need is 1,000 true fans. Just 1,000. I've hit 1,440 sign ups for Coding for Entrepreneurs and it leaves me wonder if I can convert 1,000 of these people to become a true fan of mine.
What are true fans?
True fans support you with almost anything your bring out. They are excited about your new projects, new talks, new articles, new books, new.. whatever. It's easier to grasp this idea for "creative" types like musicians or authors but the concept holds true for nearly anyone. True Fans don't just order, they pre-order.
I would argue that most people have around 10 True Fans no matter what and, not surprisingly, this is your family. These people tend to be the ones that will support you through all of your projects just because its you!
If you could get 100xs that number, you won't ever have to work a day in your life.
Think of it this way. Have you ever been hired for something because the person "just liked you" with little thought of your qualifications? Have you ever said "wow he/she is going to go far in life"? These are the makings of admiration towards being someone else's fan or becoming the fan of someone.
I want to build my true fan base. It's not about money or fame or success. It's about community. It's about a group of people whom you can lead/inspire to do the things that inspire them... it's what draws me so much to the entrepreneurial community and especially the group I once belonged: the non-technical side of it; the non-technical side, of course, meaning the "marketing/creative" side (not to say that techies aren't creative).
If you can build a tribe of 1,000 true fans, what could you accomplish? How would your decisions be different if you knew you had 1,000 people rooting for you at ever corner?
If you can convince 10 people today to do something that they have been putting off, how would that feel? If you could repeat next week, than the next, than the next....
Push hard everyday until you reach your 1,000 true fans, even if you're doing it for 10 minutes at time.
Cheers

25 Hours, 1,300 Sign Ups Later | A Reflection
Thank you for the amazing support! I wrote this as a reflection on the day's journey. Enjoy.
----
I've been wanting to do it. I've been thinking and debating and when's the right day and is the content done? Do I need more? Should I test on a few more people? Should I get some friends to try out first? Do I really need to bug/spam friends and family to make this thing happen?
Tons more questions. But then, I had clarity. "If I keep putting this off, who knows when I'll launch it. How about I just do it now"
And so it was. Last night, nearly 26 hours ago, I launched a class that took me about 2 weekends to complete the videos. Of course I'm not counting the countless hours I've spent learning code but that really doesn't count.
I'm happy to say that in 25 hours, I've had 1,300 people sign up. Most of these people are 100% strangers. As of this writing, the ONLY way to get to my class is the direct link (https://www.udemy.com/coding-for-entrepreneurs/). That means Udemy.com did not 'feature' my class in any way and I'm still 'pending review" to be listed in search results. 1,300 people later and I'm 'pending review.'
That's what happens though. Entrepreneurs always face less-than-ideal conditions. Ideally, I launched, Udemy saw it, and I was featured right away then my organic results would have gone up significantly. That just wasn't so.
Two key lessons through this whole thing: Leverage & Launch.
Whatever it is you are doing, clean it up as much as possible then launch. Launch now.
Do it today. Measure initial results then adapt. I did it last night right a few hours before I went to bed with a coupon code that... was 100% claimed around 3:00 am. In retrospect, I would have made more coupons available but I had NO way of knowing how this would play out.
Let's say you have no product. What to do? Well you could always sign up for my 'website design for entrepreneurs' free class to make your frist landing page in about 1 hour. Then you can gauge interest online to see who wants to bite.
Stop making excuses and launch. It feels soooooooo good once you do and people know you're idea. I was hoping for a couple hundred the first day I did 6.5x that.
Leverage. What groups are you apart of that could help you be more successful? Do you have friends who are ROOTING for you in almost everything you do? How can you have them be vocal for you? Don't expect it, just ask for it. "You don't get if you don't ask" Asking for someone to post something for you is minimal. Do you have coworkers who are interested in the same thing?
Leverage Craigslist. Although you will not find the BEST leads, you will find some (if not many) for a TON of projects. The best part is it's free. Post something now, leave your real email -- (if you are worried about spam, please find comfort in knowing you're probably already in their database and your email provider, like Google or Yahoo, is already blocking them), set up a free Google Voice number so people can call you, and pitch your idea. Respond to requests as they come in.
Leverage Reddit.com. This community is fantastic and are avid users of the service. These are the types of fans you want to have for any project you are thinking of doing. Find your nice group(s): I choose Startups, Entrepreneur, & Python. Python probably did the best because there were already entrepreneurs looking to learn python they just didn't know where to start. I wouldn't have known that unless I tested it.
Leverage FEAR. We all have it. The word itself can send chills up your spine. If you are afriad, so is the other guy/gal thinking of the exact same idea. Who's going to do it first? I believe it will be the one who is willing to be afraid and vulnerable.
So what are you waiting for? Launch. Now.
