Poor Fatty: A broke ass fat babes guide to fashion & self care
1. Fashion
- THRIFT STORES!!! I can’t stress this enough. Almost everything I own is thrifted, it may seem daunting to dig through heaps of clothes for that one item that fits but here’s some tricks to speed up the process. - Know what you like. Know your taste. It’s much easier to go in knowing what kind of outfits you’re trying to put together as apposed to randomly searching. (Example: I love high waisted skirts and billowy dresses so thats what I scope for the most.)
- LEGGINGS!!! I literally never wear jeans. Ever. I just don’t like them. Every once in a while if I see a cool, funky pair on sale at target for $4 ill get them but most of mine are thrifted. (Look into bleach dying black cotton leggings as well if you’re crafty)
- Over sized sweaters. You don’t look dumpy, you’re adorable.
- Look for patterns/colors/textures that jump out at you. Mixing and matching can go very, very well. - Don’t be afraid to try something new!! Look up fat babe fashion inspo and then try to recreate the looks you like at the thrift store.
- Scarves, scarves, scarves! They’re the best accessory imo. They can go around your neck, in your hair, tied around one boot. Also, surrongs are great for summer and you can look up tutorials on youtube on how to tie them a million different ways.
-blanket shawls. Super awesome and super easy to make.
- SALES! Always keep an eye out for thrift store sales shit is dirt cheap.
- Make Up. Dollar stores (dollar General, family dollar, dollar tree) are my go to make up stores. I love the giant cheap eyeshadow pallets forever and ever. I don’t use heavy foundation so light powders are fine for me but my sister loves the liquid off brand cover girl she gets from dollar gen.
- NEVER EVER go shopping at a thrift store if you’re rushed. This kind of endeavor, especially as a fatty, takes time
- Local, non corp thrift stores are always the best in my experience.
2. Self Care
Self care is so, so, SO important. Sometimes its hard as a poor fatty who cant treat themself to expensive bath bombs and over priced crap from the mall. So heres some awesome ways to care for yourself on the cheap.
- Epsom salt, essential oil, bubbles and baking soda. You should be able to find all of these things at your local dollar store. For me its dollar tree and they have that and more. Mix a ½ cup of epsom salt with a tablespoonof each of the other things and you have yourself a nice refreshing bath. If you’re feeling super crafty and have the time you could make your own bath bombs. They’re pretty fun.
- Coconut Oil Everywhere. In your bath. In your coffee, use it as lotion, use it as conditioner, use it as shaving cream. Rub it all over your entire life. Aldi has some cheaper coconut oil btw.
- Chub Rub. I personally don’t like to use baby powder so buying a couple pairs of ugly leggings from the thrift store for a couple bucks and cut them into shorts for ya thighs (:
- Tampons/Pads For my female fat babes, If shit is just too tight this month your local health department should have free tampons and pads on hand for those in need.
- Food Pantries Make sure you’re getting what you need! There’s no shame in needing help! I’ve made life long friends at our local shelters.
3. Mental Health This one is a bit harder because there are so many poor undiagnosed fat girls out there with mental illness they can’t find help for either because of lack of money, lack of options or flat out doctors ignoring your symptoms because your fat and it must be that. If you ever find yourself unable to get the help you need for your mental health here are some tips that have helped me in the past.
- Trust your feelings when you feel like you need to reach out for help. Try the best you can to not allow yourself to feel like a burden when you most need it.
- Recognize harmful patterns. Try to figure out why you continue the cycle and pin point some small steps you could take to walk away from the cycle. Example: acknowledging when you’re mentally beating yourself up and saying to yourself out loud “I don’t deserve this” because none of you beautiful beings deserves the mental ringer we put ourselves through.
- Meditation/Yoga As someone who is diognosed as bipolar with severe anxiety and has been on and off meds for over ten years, This has single handedly taught me how to better control my thoughts and feelings. I strongly urge anyone suffering to try meditation at least 10 minutes a day.
-Harmful People Physically or mentally. If you can, get away from them. “Friends” with back handed compliments about your size. Fat shaming Abusive family members. Rid them all from your life because you deserve better. Now. Before your self worth is more damaged than it already is. If you can, run away.
- Say three nice things to yourself everyday (and mean it) Write them down and pull them out when you’re feeling shitty. Ask close loved ones to also write down the things they like about you and save them. They’re super handy sometimes.
I love you babes

🍃Earl Grey Milk Tea.🍃
With everyone feeling under the weather, or having the feeling of panic in their bodies. I decided to share with you guys a recipie that helps me calm myself. I’ll add a list of the magick of the drink below the recipie.
What you need:
2 earl grey tea bags
4 cups of water
1 1/3 cup of half & half (or any other milk alternative. I wouldn’t suggest coconut milk however.)
3 brown sugar cubes
1 1/2 teaspoons of 100% pure honey
A pot
A spoon
A mug
What to do:
Bring the 4 cups of water to boil in the pot on the stove.
Once the water is boiling set the heat on low and add the tea bags. Let the tea steep for 4 minutes.
After 3 minutes of steeping, add the half & half (or what ever other milk product you chose.) to the tea and stir for about 30 seconds . As you stir breathe deeply and exhale slowly; put intent into your movements.
Let the tea steep for another 3 minutes, remove it from the heat once finished and discard of the tea bags.
Add the brown sugar cubes and the honey to your favorite mug, **CAREFULLY** pour the hot tea into the mug and stir slowly, once again breathe deeply and put intent into your work.
Enjoy.
The Magick of the Tea:
Ingredients & their magical purposes:
EARL GREY: earl grey is a black tea which represents Winter, the energy is masculine and the best crystal to hold while sipping it would be Obsidian. Earl grey tea offers courage, rids of boredom and enhances a conscious mind.
HONEY:honey is mostly known for love spells, but it also offers a perfect substance for self-love. Honey sweetens a moment, a life.
BROWN SUGAR: brown sugar is amazing for overcoming enemies and negativity, much like honey it is a sweetener for life.
