DISCLAIMER: In canon, Henry is only a prisoner of Javier for a year and only two days in the early 2000's. I've adjusted this for character angst, Henry was a prisoner of Javier's for 30 years in the 15th century and for a month in the 2000's.

𝐉𝐀𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐑 𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐎𝐙𝐀: Henry encountered Javier Mendoza shortly after he and his maker, Christina, went their separate ways. Henry allowed his self-control to slip, and against his better judgement, began acting recklessly and impulsively. This drew the attention of Javier who was a devout member of the Spanish Inquisition stationed in France. Henry had only been a vampire for a year and a half, his presumed death as the bastard son of Henry VIII almost seven years previous.

Unlike many of Javier's colleagues and fellow religious consorts, he believed in the occult, in witchcraft and the supernatural. He led a small rogue band in his tribunal who specifically targeted the inhuman. Henry was eventually captured, imprisoned, and tortured by Javier and his sect. For thirty years, Henry refused and defied him, eliciting an obsession in Javier as he conjured more and more creative and disturbing techniques to force a confession from Henry. Javier grew more and more disturbed as the years went on and Henry continued to resist him.

During their time together, Javier and Henry would engage in intellectual arguments, debates, conversations, and discussions on spirituality, religion, war, and belief in-between intervals of Henry's torture and punishments. They skirted around the edges of each other, and Henry learned every dark, twisted, and unholy thought, belief, and feeling that Javier had ever had. He became Javier's confidant and confessor, free from judgement, Javier could unburden his soul in relative safety.

Henry would eventually escape Javier's clutches after befriending Maria Mendoza, Javier's dutiful wife. Throughout Henry's time as Javier's prisoner, Javier trusted only his wife to be in Henry's present without falling to Henry's "evil". Like Javier, Henry would engage in deep conversations and discussions with Maria whenever Javier was away and found her to be the opposite of his captor. She was kind, gentle, faithful, and strong willed. She believed in compassion and forgiveness, and it was these things that Henry fell for and what he used to convince Maria to free him. When she freed him, Maria asked for Henry to turn her, believing that she could save Javier's soul by demonstrating to him that she was still the same woman he loved and cherished after her transition.

Despite his reservations, Henry agreed to help her, promising to return the next night. However, Harry arrived seconds too late. Maria awoke to see the face of her love, and Javier plunged a stake into her heart, killing her instantly.

Henry snapped. He lashed out, impaling Javier and going on a killing spree through the church where Javier had imprisoned him for three decades. He spent the next fifty years hunting down and killing all members of Javier's tribunal. It is one of the darkest centuries of Henry's life.

For centuries, Henry believed Javier was dead until the priest returned in the early 2000's. Javier had discovered a way to prolong his life using vampire blood and mystical herbs and concoctions. Javier manipulated Mike Celluci, prying on his fear and jealousy, to help Javier weaken and capture Henry for the second time. Cut off from Mike and Vicki, Henry was once again at the mercy of Javier Mendoza.

As his captive, Henry discovered that Javier had been tracking Henry by following the lives of those he had turned. Capturing, torturing, and forcing them to confess to being abominations, to name their sire, and beg for salvation. Javier recorded each confession, as well as their execution by sunlight.

Henry spent a month as Javier's prisoner being tortured by an enchanted object that rapidly caused desiccation, starvation, and extreme pain. By the time Vicki and Mike found him, Henry was half-crazed with hunger. Mike intercepted Henry before he could feed on Vicki, and Vicki in turn managed to stop Henry from draining Mike dry. He turned his hunger and rage on Javier, hunting him down and killing him once and for all.

𝐂𝐇𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐀: Henry met Christina when he was sixteen. A mysterious, beautiful, and charismatic woman that was new to the King's court. She appeared in her late twenties, and Henry was captivated from the moment he laid eyes on her. She was well-travelled, exciting, and confident. She spoke her mind, never shy from speaking her mind and telling him of all the places that she had seen and the people she had met. Henry was envious of her worldliness, ehr strength and openness for adventure. Their affair began quickly, it was intense and all consuming, Henry had never loved anyone the way he had loved Christina.

Despite never seeing Christina during the day and that Christina had been feeding on him, Henry didn't become aware of her true nature as a vampire until he was forced to confront her about the rumours that had been circulating. Christina admitted the truth, revealing herself to Henry and telling him that she would need to leave before the people turned on her.

Henry begged Christina to let him come with her, professing his love for her and his desire to travel the world with her. At only seventeen, Christina chose to help Henry fake his death. Taking his blood every night before lulling him into a comatose state that would be mistaken for death. Henry was supposed to be entombed but fearing that Christina had turned him, his godfather had him buried in a paupers grave.

Henry was buried alive in a confined box until several hours past sunset when Christina was able to dig him out of his grave. From then on, Henry travelled with Christina, providing her with protection when she needed it during the day and being her eyes and ears among their human communities. Henry's love and devotion to Christina never faltered, his love of life, of travel and exploration matched only by Christina's adventurous spirit. He was twenty-four when Christina finally agreed to turn him.

For a year, Christina taught Henry how to live as a vampire. How to hide in plain sight, how to conceal his kills, how to feed without killing, and how to protect himself when daylight came. She taught him how to roll minds, how to alter perception, alter and erase memories without breaking a human's mind, and when to use brute force. She taught him everything he needed to know in order to survive, until one night, while Henry was feeding, Christina suddenly snapped.

The vampiric territorial instinct compelled them to attempt to kill one another. They almost did. Christina was able to gain enough control to flee, but the love they once had for each other was overshadowed by the vampire's instinct to kill a fellow predator. They fell out of touch until the early 2000's when Christina risked venturing into Henry's territory to ask for his help. A young vampire who she claimed had become infatuated with her, had been stalking her and wished to kill her.

Eventually, it was revealed that Christina had turned this boy without his consent, something that Henry found abhorrent and a complete affront to everything she had once taught him and what Henry valued most. Henry was forced to kill the new vampire, and he told Christina that if he ever saw her again, he would kill her too.

Despite parting on bad terms, Christina will always hold an important place in Henry's heart as his first love, and as his sire.

𝐋𝐀𝐃𝐘 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐘 𝐇𝐎𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐃 / 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐘 𝐅𝐈𝐓𝐙𝐑𝐎𝐘: Mary was a member of the Howard family, the second daughter of the 3rd Duke of Norfolk. At the time of her birth, her father was the second most senior noble in the English peerage. Henry and Mary would find themselves in friendship when Thomas Wolsey, Henry's forever caregiver, fell from grace and the mantle was passed to Mary's father. Henry and Mary were childhood friends, growing up together, both scrutinized by the eyes of the Court and forced to play the parts bestowed on them by their fathers. They were confidants and partners in crime, often finding excuses to run away from the affairs of responsibility and expectation together.

Mary was an outspoken girl of high morals, rarely hiding her judgement on what she perceived as immoral. It was Anne Boleyn who pushed for a marriage between Henry and Mary, a marriage that was never consummated due to Henry VIII's paranoia. While neither Henry, nor Mary, saw the other in a romantic of sexual light, they took their marriage seriously and remained strong friends. Mary encouraged Henry's passion for art and stories, and Henry convinced Mary to publish her journal of poetry anonymously.

When Henry began his affair with Christina when he was sixteen, Henry and Mary had a falling out. Mary found the affair to be a betrayal of not only their vows, but also their friendship. Henry would eventually return to Mary as a vampire after he heard that she and her family had been arrested by the King's order after Catherine Howard, fifth wife of Henry VIII, fell from grace. Henry offered Mary the chance to live forever, which she rejected out of love for her mortal life. Henry worked in the shadows and would see Mary and her imprisoned relatives freed from the Tower of London and they would part ways as renewed friends.

Mary maintained her free will over the years, never remarrying. Her presence at Court dwindled not long after Henry VIII's death and she distanced herself from her remaining family, unwilling to be involved in their ambitions for power, or their scandals and would live a quiet life.

Henry missed Mary's death in 1557 as he was a prisoner of the Spanish Inquisition, but he visited her grave once he was freed and still visits St Michael Churchyard when he can.

i’ll  have  to  actually  look  more  into  c.atholicism  as  a  religious  belief  and  stuff  at  some  point  but  i  think  about  henry’s  relationship  with  his  religion  a  lot.  i  intend  to  have  him  experience  a  crisis  of  faith  during  his  imprisonment  by  javier  the  first  time  around  and  the  following  decades  in  which  he  sought  revenge  against  the  spanish  inquisition,  i  also  intend  for  him  to  experience  a  second  crisis  in  the  2000′s  after  his  second  imprisonment  by  javier.  but  i  do  want  his  faith  and  religion  to  have  a  very  strong  impact  on  who  he  is  and  what  he  does  eventually

The atmosphere in the coffee slash book shop was cozy and friendly, patrons chatted pleasantly amongst themselves, their voices at a comfortable volume like the mellow music that played in the background. Morgan was buried deep in a book, a tea steeped beside him on a coffee table. It was still quite hot as steam rose from the top.

In spite of how fixated he had been, he did casually glance upward and saw a man enter the shop. He was handsome with bright blue eyes and curly brown hair. Morgan back to his novel but every now and again he’d steal a glance at the stranger before finally putting the book away to approach him with a smile that was more than friendly. 

“I haven’t seen you around,” And that much was honest, he frequented this shop and his face was unfamiliar. “Are you from here?”

it wasn't often that there was a coffee and book shop that catered to the night owl population, so when his publicist requested that he entertain the owner to warm them up to a possible book reading and signing for one of his latest releases, henry obliged. in part because he wished to investigate the business to see if it might become one of his regular haunts, and in part because he felt his publicist deserved for him to be obedient after so many missed deadlines.

    the bitter scent of coffee and the sweet aroma of sugar and cinnamon created a warm and cozy atmosphere and while the owner seemed kind and eager enough, it was a man tucked near the back of the shop with his face buried in a book that henry found his gaze lingering on right up until his approach.

    ❝ depends on who you ask, ❞ henry said with a smile, turning to face the other man completely, ❝ i’ve been in the area before but this is the first time in this cafe, ❞ henry explained, ❝ i take it you're a regular? you have a good eye, ❞
